As the achiever, I’m known for working hard and enjoy working hard. I have determination, drive and motivation to accomplish whatever goals I have set for myself. Multitasking, helpful or harmful? In Alina Tugend’s “Multitasking Can Make You Lose…Um…Focus”, Tugend explores multitasking in several ways. Explaining how we as humans sacrifice focus “shifting focus from task to task gives illusion that we’re simultaneously tasking”. Also, how our brains react to operating and trying to do more than one task at once. Only one or two visual stimulants can activate our neurons at one particular time. Lastly, how we can recreate boundaries and cope with everyday life and multitasking. Tugend reiterates several times the importance of one task at a time so we as humans can effectively complete tasks to the best of our abilities instead of giving partial focus and not efficiently completely a task. Multitasking is very beneficial at times, but more often there are significant downfalls; it is crucial we learn how to manage the downfalls of juggling tasks, events, conversations, and daily events.

Tugend explains what multitasking is in the first section she also explains why it is bad. She then brings in a professor to explain how multitasking works in a scientific way. Alina Tugend then uses case studies to show how multitasking can cause loss of focus and impairment in motor activities. She then shows how multitasking can actually delay your progress on completing projects by constantly switching to different tasks. Tugend then sums it all up by trying to teach us how to better ourselves and to not multitask.

People who undergo an upsetting situation due to their health, tend to find other things such as hobbies to take their mind off of what they can’t control. This need for distraction is present in Rosalind Warren in “Furniture Fight”, In which Linda has terminal cancer and focuses on furniture and is able to change and redesign the way she wants, because that takes her mind off of how weak she is and how she can’t do anything about it. To that effect, the story suggests that when people are suffering from deeper problems they often distract themselves with smaller issues they can control. This sad reality is shown by the father who deals with the death of his first and soon to be second dead wife by showing interests in their hobbies as well as Linda’s irrational obsession with furniture.
Now trust me, that’s not very efficient. In the case of multitasking your brain is like a computer. I know, the same thing that very well causes you to be unproductive does the samething to itself. WHen you begin to run to many programs on your computer it actually slows down and may even crash causing any of the work you may have done to go down the drain. Similarly, by multitasking, you actually make it harder for yourself to stay on task as a part of the brain called the striatum has to burn more oxygenated glucose, causing you to lose focus and be more tired than before. As this professor goes on he talks about how its misleading and that multitasking doesn’t actually benefit us, it actually hinders are ability to be productive. Furthermore, being idle truly does not get one anywhere in life. Plus, when always doing, a person will have more joy in life. Firstly, if one is not idle, they can get a bunch accomplished. There are many tasks that one can execute in life.
Thomas Jefferson wrote, “Determine never to be idle… If is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.” I believe that always doing accomplishes more than doing nothing. The reasons I believe this is because actions always produce results. Also, you will always make progress no matter what you are doing. If we always accomplish by doing, then what can be accomplished if you do nothing? You can’t achieve any sort of goal if you do nothing; therefore, I agree with Thomas Jefferson.
First off, inactivity has no purpose because it leads to not making the right decisions. Most people that have gone their hole life by doing the bare minimum don't get very far. For example, students that don't show up at school are inactive will fail because of their absences. And students that are in school and don't focus or pay attention
There are many benefits of being active, it is good for you and it is a good way to socialise with others, regular physical activity can help prevent heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure and reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and some cancers and it can help to avoid injuries. Research suggests that those who eat a wide variety of nutritious foods enjoy living a longer life. .Other benefits of healthy eating include:

I believe that being inactive is the best option because it gives you an opportunity to set goals to reach your peak. It also gives you time to realize what is necessary to achieve and what is not. Realizing its better to focus and execute your goals allow you to do more than you have ever.

Hence, multiple tasks results in the poor productivity.
