In the Superstition Mountains of Arizona the legend of a gold mine hangs in the air. Many lives have been lost while the Lost Dutchman's gold remains safe and protected by the Prelta Stones. The harsh climate, steep cliffs, deep canyons, wild animals, and lack of accessible re makes finding this mystery mine nearly impossible. While finding the mine's location may be the easier part of the job making it out alive is the challenge. Nine adventures' set out to find the hidden mine, but only one has ever found it, The Lost Dutchman himself. The mystery of Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine is one full of death, myths, and adventure. The deaths by Dutchman's has grown steadily over the years. There have been approximately seven deaths in searching for Dutchman's Gold Mine (Lost Dutchman's Claims Life of Jesse Capen). The most recent death recorded was Jesse Capen, a twenty-six year old, American man who had an obsession to the mine (Lost Dutchman's Claims Life of Jesse Capen). His body was found February of 2012 in a deep canyon about 75 feet drop to a crevise approximately 3 feet wide (Lost Dutchman's Claims Life of Jesse Capen). Medical examiner Mitchelle Reagan said "... the perfect size for Capen to slide into, but impossible to climb out on his own. It took approximately three days to kill Capen. That would be the claim of John V. Kemm. Kemm has said the great-great-great-grandfather was a close friend to Waltz and passed down the Prelta Maps, but the search for Lost Dutchman's has been on for 189 years to no avail (The Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine Found?). Officials have no reason to believe that the mine will pop up any time soon. Though evidence shows that there is indeed a mine (The Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine Found?). It's the point of finding it that's proving
The world has a lot of coffee drinkers and many coffee shops to accommodate these people’s needs. There are so many coffee shops that sometimes it’s hard to choose where to go. I have personally experienced many different coffee shops and they are all the same, calm music, sit down places, with the same variety of coffee. I have found a shop that is different, it’s now my favorite place to go for coffee. It just so happens to be Dutch Bros Coffee.
The first eight chapters od David Grann’s The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon investigates the legend of Percy Fawcett, an English explorer and archeologist who vanished searching for an Amazonian lost city of gold in 1925. Initially the author attempts to “simply record how generations of scientists and adventurers became fatally obsessed with solving the greatest exploration mystery of the twentieth century” (Grann 4). However, the non-fiction narrative quickly becomes an adventurous detective story, switching perspective between Grann’s modern investigation and details about Fawcett’s ill-fated expedition. The book describes how the Amazon, one of the last true unexplored wildernesses on earth, seems to attract adventurers and create “obsession,” luring many to their deaths

Money has been been a big central network in developing our country today. Back then people used to barter items with others, so they could get different things they may need things like corn, fish, wheat, and etc. Salt was another commodity money salt was very difficult to obtain mainly in the inner countries and it is very good to cook with because it adds flavor to your food. In the south people became so wealthy because they didn't use money either there was a system called “Mit’a” from the age of 15 young Incan males had to do physical labor to state of a set of days. They built public buildings and places in return the government all the basic necessities of life food, clothing, tools, housing and, etc. The first known currency
Our story takes place in the desert. There are myths of the "Miner's Treasure", buried with lots of valuables inside. The person who buried the treasure was someone's great grandfather who had struck it rich during the Gold Rush. Recently, people have found the journal and now everyone is on the hunt for the "Miner's Treasure" to become rich.
I found it interesting that the acid produced from the mine can burn fabrics and skin. Also that the acid created by the mine is known for having the worst concentration of acid in the world and is about 500 times more acidic than any other mine. The mine is so dangerous that they have to pump air in just so people don't pass out. The greediness of humans and their action caused this catastrophe and its us that need to stop it from creating any further damage. People can help by donating to charities or being green. I think that if everyone works together this problem will be shortly minuscule as I believe the EPA will be able to bring acid levels down with
Colorado has over 23,000 deserted mines throughout the state, many of which leak hazardous materials into the environment. These mines are the remnants of mining operations of the 1800s when regulation was scant and environmental concerns were nonexistent. On August 5, workers from the Environmental Protection Agency were conducting an investigation of the Gold King Mine site. The mine was releasing 300 gallons of contaminated water into Cement Creek, which flows into the Animas River, every minute. Unfortunately, the EPA workers accidentally disrupted a debris wall in the mine, which caused approximately 3 million gallons of water laden with heavy metals and other pollutants to spill into the creek. This toxic solution is quite acidic, with
During this time many uncertified explorers have gone down into the mine to search for clues.
As if to add insult to injury, within Dornel Mines in the Southwestern Region, while digging as they have always done, the miners broke through to something. A chamber? A cave? No one knows for sure what it was. Only what came
There are numerous alternative investment options out there, and the one that I am interested in the most is gold. Why gold? Well, before I came to America to study, my first impression on the U.S. is the historical event Gold Rush that happened in 19th century. The discovery of gold nuggets in the Sacramento Valley in early 1848 sparked the Gold Rush, arguably one of the most significant events to shape American history during the first half of the 19th century. As news spread of the discovery, thousands of prospective gold miners traveled by sea or over land to San Francisco and the surrounding area; by the end of 1849, the non-native population of the California territory was some 100,000. A total of $2 billion worth of precious metal was extracted from the area during the Gold Rush, which peaked in 1852. This is the “American Dream”, and everyone who came to the U.S. has an American Dream. Therefore, in this final project, I decide to talk about this alternative investment option: gold.
First, in “Klondike Gold Rush” (Public Domain) the authors stick strictly to facts. They speak about all the hardships the people faced while mining for gold and the routes that were taken and how long they were. Like in article it states “The
Imagine yourself crowded between thousands of people in the freezing cold. Climbing the horrendous terrain, and sailing the wild oceans just trying to get your hands on some sweet gold. The authors in the three passages, The Klondike gold rush, A women who went to alaska, and the video, City of gold, use different points of view to describe the difficulties the miner’s faced when on the adventure of the klondike gold rush. In the first article, The Klondike gold rush, the author uses third person point of view to describe the difficulties of getting to the gold field. In the article, A women who went to alaska, the author also uses third person point of view to describe the lives of the miners, and the gold rush.
Some people will believe anything to get rich. The short story “The Gold Bug” was written by Edgar Allen Poe and published in 1843. Within this writing is a complex story of how a single object can drive a man insane with the promise of riches. It begins with the unnamed narrator telling the reader about his friend William Legrand. He speaks of his family heritage and how William had fallen into a deep pit of financial struggle.
I was reading the Daily Treasure (a newspaper for pirates), when I stumbled across an editorial about an island that was filled with a large variety of treasure, but it was very hard to find. Automatically, I was filled with excitement. I hurried to tell my fellow buccaneers about my findings. They were all enthused. We decided to begin our adventure the next day, leaving time for preparation. Of course, we didn’t know what to expect, so we gathered the basic necessities: food and drink. We cleared space for the future treasure we would find and went to rest. We knew there was a big day ahead of
As he unlocked the trapdoor, Bahauddin braced himself for a blinding light, but he found none. It was night when he exited the cave and found no sign of life, but this was to be expected. The entrance to the cave was in the mountains located east of his village, and the war between his people and the other tribe was fought near his city. “The council will be angry, for I have not delivered the treasure in time,” Bahauddin thought.
