Exemplify – Louise Mack exemplify leadership through integrity, work ethics compassion and communication skills. Teamwork - I don’t think that there is a job to big or too small where Louise would not be a part in some way. I suggested that we needed more file cabinets, but she said the files needed to be purged. She coordinated the date, and project was performed as teamwork Louise pulled files and assisted in boxing the files for scanning. She has assisted with copying large volume of case folders as we prepare for an appeal hearing. On any day, she will tiny up the Appeals Conference Room, and has on several occasions has organized our supply cabinet.

I remember congratulating Louise on her academic accomplishments and she replied, “I did not achieve my goal by herself, but with faith, love, and support of my family, friends, and a few co-workers.” She believes in motivating others to plan, and seek career opportunities through additional education and/or training. She reminds me to review the agency’s training calendar. She encourages me to let her know if there are any classes that I would like to attend. I have attended some training, and her motivation, I have enrolled in college, and looking forward in completing my bachelor
After graduating from Wright State University, with her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, her initial plan was to become a Therapist. But over the years, pursuing
Joseph E. Lee was born in Philadelphia in 1849, he graduated from Howard University in 1873. He moved to Florida that same year and became the first African American lawyer in Jacksonville and in the state of Florida. He served in the House of Representatives from 1875 to 1879 and in the state Senate from 1881 to 1882. He was one of the most influential African American men in Florida through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He was elected municipal judge of Jacksonville and was one of the first African Americans to have this honor. He educated free slaves at a college by the name of Edward Waters College. Lee worked as a public servant acting at various times as a state legislator, a lawyer, federal customs collector and educator.
In Band of Brothers Episode 5, Crossroads, the audience is introduced in the first scene to Captain Winters running across an open field and coming to an embankment at the end of the field. On the other side of the embankment sits a German soldier scrounging for something on the ground. Winters squeezes the trigger and then the screen goes black. This scene as short as it is I believe is a very powerful way to start the entire episode. If one were to break this scene down there is several traces of leadership that can be found.
This paper will discuss the topic of Leadership and both explore, as well as explain, it’s applicability in today’s work environment. The basis for discussion will be centered on the material provided during instruction of Management 371 and the personal LSA Journal entries of John Brennan. Additionally, there are three referenced articles that further explain and highlight the topic of Leadership. Throughout this paper, Leadership and the traits that make up a great leader will be explained.
Leadership Abilities can have many characteristics and meanings to a person. I took the time to look at characteristics and success of a leader to choose just one of the many leaders to discuss. Some of the characteristics that are involved in leadership is “Responsibility, Learners, share victory, Set an Example, aren’t afraid to make mistakes, push people upward, peacemakers, adapt their thinking, sense of humor, work hard, confident, promote unity, action-oriented, do the right thing, integrity, encourage, persevere, and courageous” (James River Church, 2017). One Leader that shows these characteristics is Mother Teresa.
This concept of being a manager who leads is a continuous blend. In clarification she goes on to say that a manager deals with present day issues and concerns. This is a very important aspect of managing and quite a lot can be accomplished with this focus in mind. In order to be a leader you must look beyond today and focus on the future. A leader must be a true visionary. Being able to handle everyday issues and problems while planning for the future are qualities that all leaders must master if they are to truly be successful. For this reason it is vital to have insight, practice forward thinking, and demonstrate the ability to make strategic decisions further improving what is already established. In addition a leader must develop, initiate, and promote their ideas and values. A leader must possess the ability to unite a group of otherwise separate individuals into one humongous group. Most importantly they must focus them to work under a common philosophy with valued goals in mind. Leaders must be proactive in collaborating with others around them. The collaboration must take place with individuals that are equal in position as well as those above and below them. In other words a leader must listen and acknowledge all suggestions, while taking an active part in coaching or developing them further if appropriate. Lastly but equally as important, as a leader you must have authority. This power if you will should not be exerted routinely as it should be reserved
“I believe that an effective leader who goes to work with a sense of urgency. With clear purpose in mind and a deep intention in the heart- a leader works the hardest and gives the most. She leads by example- through action.” When I think of leadership, this quote by Marechiel Santos-Lang hits the nail on the head.
There are a lot of people out there in leadership positions, but not many that really exemplify the true qualities of a leader. While conducting this interview I asked L.A. what she thought the true qualities of a leader was and was pleasantly surprised to learn that she had very high standards when it comes to her idea of leadership characteristics. The first two things she touched on where people skills and patient care because she believes those go hand in hand. Without the skills to communicate effectively with the patients there is no point in caring for them at all. Another huge quality for L.A. is she believes in straight forward honesty, and integrity. If you are straight forward from the beginning with staff whether the news good or bad then they will learn to trust you and they know they can count on what you say, being the nice guy all the time and sugar coating everything you are
Abstract: There are numerous definitions of leadership, all of which contain elements related to people (the leader and the follower(s)), communicating in person or by the written word, actions (organizing, directing, coaching, and/or motivating), and for a purpose (meeting a goal(s) or accomplishing a task(s)) (ADP 6-22) (Fisher 2015) (Bolden 2013) (Hogan 2005). Additionally, everything done occurs within a given context. Effective leaders are poised, proficient, pertinent, and practical in the application of the art of leadership. This means leaders are ready to engage the group with effective methods and
“At times of change or dealing with uncertainty or in a crisis-- that is when the best leader will shine” (Ellis, 2016). A leader who can work effectively in a complicated, unpredictable situation is a competent leader and he tirelessly works to improve his capabilities (Ledlow & Coppola, 2010). All great leaders are known for communicating effectively what they want to achieve. They are visionaries who have the ability to lead others toward a shared goal (Gibson & Weber, 2015).
A leader is anyone who uses interpersonal skills to influence others to accomplish a specific goal (Sullivan & Decker, 2009). Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, worked on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Her enthusiasm for her work at the United Nations was rooted in her humanitarian convictions and her steady faith in human dignity and worth. With modesty, Eleanor considered her position on the Commission to be one of ambassador for the common people. Her sensible approach, optimism and energy allowed the smooth facilitation of meetings (Eleanor Roosevelt Biography, 1998). Not actually seeing herself as a leader, Eleanor preferred to work as part of a team, not like a boss. She followed her passion of making positive changes in people’s lives and knew
For many years, I have been told by teachers, family, and friends that I am a good leader. Until fairly recently, I had never truly thought about what it means to be a good leader and just took it as a compliment. Leadership is an intangible concept which cannot be properly outlined in a dictionary, but one which must be formed and explained only through one’s own philosophies and experiences.
“Leadership is more ability than job. Moreover, it is all about determination, ability to solve problems, set direction for followers, gather them for common purpose and motivating people to achieve tasks. Furthermore, it is a charisma and the ability to reacting at the right time for a particular competitive situation” (L.Mullins, 2010, P372).
Leadership is, and always has been, a vital aspect of social and economic constructs. It is essential to the survival of societies, industries, organizations, and virtually any group of individuals that come together for a common purpose. However, leadership is difficult to define in a single, definitive sense. As such, theories of leadership, what constitutes a great leader, and how leaders are made have evolved constantly throughout history, and still continue to change today in hopes of improving upon our understanding of leadership, its importance, and how it can be most effective in modern organizational cultures.
“Leadership is influencing others by your character, humility, and example. It is recognizable when others follow in word and deed without obligation or coercion”.( Sonny Newman, president of contract manufacturer EE Technologies)
