Tomi’s friends and family are the very definition of loyalty. They all did not have to help him if they were not up to it, but they were loyal to him and wanted to be of service. Three examples of this are Rico, Grandpa Joji, and Jake’s acts of kindness and devotion.
To begin with, Grandpa Joji has gone above and beyond to assist Tomi in his Taiyo Maru project. One of his actions was that he provided the compressor needed for the group of boys to inflate the pontoons. On page 181, it states , “Your grandfather worked very hard to get that here, you know.’ I turned to Ojii-chan, who grunted. ‘That’s where you were when I was searching for you?’
‘Hnnn.’
‘He had to bring it in a wheelbarrow,’ Fumi said. ‘It took him two days.’ “ This small portion of the text shows that Grandpa Joji went out of his way to haul the heavy compressor in a wheelbarrow to Tomi. Even though it took him two days, he still followed through with what he needed to do to support his grandchild. Surely, Grandpa Joji was not the only character who wished to see Tomi succeed.

Tomi wanted to help Sanji’s family by repairing and selling his truck for Sanji’s wife and he asked Jake to do the job. On page 144, it says, “ He propped it up and stuck his head in, poking around every grimy part in that engine. ‘If the fuel line is clear, and the pump works...get a new battery...we can probably get this thing going. Then I can drive it home and clean up the engine, and you kids can clean up the wheels and tires, and then we can sell it.” Jake came to inspect the car for Tomi and offered to make the truck functional for free despite the fact that he was trying to save up money for his own car. This is just one of many things that people offer to do for
To start, Tomi is a very joyful and carefree person, when things go wrong, he always tries to fix it, he is a American-Japanese citizen. Throughout the book, it is showed that he is a very determined person- and never gives up. With the challenges he faces, he found ways to secure those challenges. After the bombing of pearl harbor, and the arrest of his beloved father, Tomi was the man of the house, and his one goal was to bring his father’s sunken boat back to the surface.
In the book The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy the main character, thinks he has everything figured out in life, he can count on his brothers, Darry and Sodapop and he can count on his friends too. But when it comes to the Soc’s who enjoys beating up Greasers like him and his friends, Ponyboy’s life starts to take a turn. Hinton uses character interactions to show the importance of loyalty. Ponyboy and his friends always protect and look out for each other. For example, friends always look out for each other. To add on to that, you should always stick by your friends even in hard times. In addition, most of the loyalty and friendship in the Outsiders is caused by differences from the Greasers and the Soc’s.
The first reason why I think Tomi has a good personality is that he never gives up. As I mentioned earlier Tomi has gone through many crazy experiences. For example, in the book, it says, “And then the navy raced a boat out and arrested Papa.” (ch.2 pg.7) Even tho his papa was arrested and his grampa was taken away, he was still determined to try and fix the Taiyo Maru. Another example is even though that tragic event happened, he still made the best of it and took good
How would you describe Tomi? A few words that could be used to describe him would be strong, caring, determined, brave, strong-willed, and persevering. He has shown these characteristics throughout the book, trying to raise his father's boat, the Taiyo Maru. However there isn’t enough time to explain them all, so only three of these characteristics will be discussed. Tomi throughout the book has consistently shown that he is brave, determined, and persevering.
When you hear the word loyal; moral, ethical and committed are the traits that come to mind. These are positive attributes that are encouraged in a person. But if you are true to your loyalty, to another person or your beliefs at what point does loyalty cross the line and you compromise your morals, ethics and commitments or are blind to the truth. In the novel Kidnapped, by Robert Louis Stevenson, there are many examples of loyalty through family, friendship and your obligations to your cause. It is shown where one is blinded by loyalty and could cross the line in pursuit of loyalty that it becomes a fault.
Second, Loyalty is important, but so is being a thinker which Tomi also was. Tomi’s main goal was to raise his father’s fishing boat, the Taiyo Maru and had to
And, even if he needed to wrestle with the stupid engine for a stretch in order to get it to turn over again, it was no big deal. The summer sun was really beginning to heat up the atmosphere nicely as it ushered away the last of the nighttime chill, so a few extra minutes outside soaking up the sun’s comforting rays wasn’t going to hurt anything, so long as his steak didn’t turn rancid in the meantime.
War can often bring out a strong sense of loyalty towards family and friends. One example of this can be seen in Miss Pross’ standing up to the armed Madame Defarge. As Miss Pross stands there with a gun pointed at her, she says, “‘I know that the longer I keep you here, the greater hope there is for my Ladybird”’ (Dickens 363). This apparent readiness towards dying in order protect her mistress is the ultimate sacrifice for loyalty. Another example of loyalty during wartimes is from Jarvis Lorry. Jarvis is a businessman, but definitely not a compassionless one. In the first place, he has no responsibility to rescue Lucie and take her to England, but he does. He does not have to remain in her life, but is an unceasing friend. Jarvis is extremely
Their friendship shows loyalty. For example, when David and Alan had a warrant for their arrest, David could have left Alan because his name wasn’t mentioned. Even when Alan lost to Cluny with David’s money, he showed compassion and prevents temptation to leave Alan. They both realize it is safer for them to split but this became harder to do as they knew each other better.
Many different themes and topics are brought up in Zipe’s fairytales, Beowulf and Gilgamesh. An important theme that occurs in many of these stories is loyalty. In each story the common goal of loyalty is to create a strong feeling of support and allegiance to a kingdom, person, property, agreement, or item of importance. These strong feelings of support and allegiance relate to the beliefs and customs of the times during which they were written, the Old Testament from the Bible, medieval Culture, German culture, Swedish Culture, Scandinavian customs etc. Many of the stories strongly associate loyalty to a higher power. If the main characters in stories such as Hansel and Gretel, Gilgamesh, and Beowulf are loyal in all that they do, divine fate is with them and they are successful throughout the story. Loyalty also produces a strong chance of survival: Those that are loyal survive, become heroes, and are revered and respected. Depending on the time and the place in which each story was written, the beliefs and customs of each culture has a significant impact of how loyalty is perceived and used in each story.
From the moment we make our debut into the world we are up against everything that life has to offer, good or bad. These trials and tribulations teaches us moral values. These necessary characteristic traits makes one a person of ethical standard and also teaches the importance of loyalty. My most substantial lesson in lesson in loyalty came later in life. It was an unfortunate experience but worthwhile.
From my point of view loyalty is owe to the employer. The employee shows the greater duty of loyalty because an employee should act for his employer’s benefit when engaging in any conduct that relates to the employment.
The problems that Toms Friends will can met are numerous. Indeed, the first problem of Toms Friends is the time of shoes reception for the disadvantaged children is too long (between 4 or 6 months from the initial date of purchase). I would recommend to the company to answer at this problem by having a better management in its logistics but also its transport to reduce the delivery deadlines. A good flow management and an anticipation of sales would allow Toms Friends to be efficient and operational. The company, if it has the financial possibility, can also open a factory in every disadvantages country where it offers its shoes. It can be create new job for many people of those countries but also improve the delivery deadlines for children.
As a Family one goes thru good and difficult experiences, but usually family support helps to find a solution or to understand the situation. In “Brother, I’m Dying” by Edwidge Danticat, Danticat introduces her family and the experiences that she and her close relatives go thru in life. Due to the circumstances Danticat and her bother Bob stay in Haiti almost their entire childhood while their parents live in The United States. Although Edwidge’s parents left her and her brother in Haiti with their Uncle Joseph, her father’s brother, and Tante Denise, his wife, for many year, Edwidge still retains loyalty to her parents.
Loyalty is a complicated virtue. It is generally understood as an individual’s intrinsic motivation towards a commitment resulting from their selfhood. Loyalty has the potential to serve as the basis for strong relationships. Yet, it also has the potential to be warped into complacency. In the Hebrew Bible, The Book of Job connects the virtue of loyalty to faith. In Homer’s Odyssey, loyalty is expressed through infidelity and faithfulness. Despite my expectation of loyalty in terms of justifying unethical actions with cynicism to serve as a constant in all settings, these two texts demonstrate that the role of loyalty rather depends on the theistic context because of the difference regarding reward and punishment being dependent upon divine beings. To defend this argument, I will analyze the different perspectives regarding the loyalty of divine beings in both texts. I will then explain the impact of immortal characters in both texts, and I will finish by indicating the differences between them, and how they shape the value of loyalty within each text.
