Kenny’s Lucky Day
Kenny hears the chattering of teeth as he lays on the cement sidewalk in downtown Halifax. He wakes up and sees his friend laying just around the corner from him. He walks over and gives him one of his blankets, and falls back to sleep. Kenny wakes up and waves to the pedestrians walking by, “Hey kenny! how’s it goin?” They reply. Everyone smiles and waves when they see kenny, most drop some spare change into his jar as they walk by. There's a particularly large sum of money in the jar this morning, instead of treating himself he takes some out and drops it into his friends jar. A little boy and his family walks by and the boy highfives kenny as they walk by. As he’s walking back to his blankets he notices a small piece of paper caught on the side of a fence. He walks over to pick up the trash and clean the streets, but upon further inspection he realizes what he just found. He runs across the street to the nearest convenient store. He slams the sliver of paper onto the counter, the cashire looks at him in awe. He double checks the numbers and starts jumping in joy! I WON!!! I REALLY WON! “Give me my check!” He demands from the cashire. After the lady forks it up he takes his half a million dollar check to the bank and takes all of the money out in cash. He walks down where he just hours ago sat, cold hungry and hopeless. He walks by four of his friends sitting in the cold, when they try to talk to him he ignores them and continues walking and stops at the
The story revolves around a village in New England whose residents gather at 10 a.m. in the square between the bank and the post office for the lottery which is held every year. There is a bright sun shining on green lawns and fragrant flowers. More than 300 residents wait in the amicable environment for Mr. Summers to arrive with the black wooden box where everyone will draw a folded slip of paper. Adults are chatting while the children are playing where they gather stones. The person who will be lucky enough to draw the slip of paper with the black dot will be the lucky person who will walk away with the entire proceedings of the lottery. The
“No,” I scream, “get off me.” Tears obscure my vision, but soon release, streaking down my face. My body thrashes as I attempt to liberate myself from his grasp.
Now for the next summary it will be based on Shirley Jackson” The Lottery”, it takes place on a warm day in June and the villagers is gathering in the town square to participate in the lottery that is hosted by Mr. Summer every year. It starts with the children arriving first who begin to collect stones until their parents come.
An entire day went by after the events of encountering the Sangrine Syndicate. Isaac sat outside on the fire escape with Epsilon, both drinking canned soda and soaking up the sun’s rays. Even though they had known each other for a short time, they managed to get along extremely well. Inside, Gerard, Malessica and Claire moved around the kitchen preparing breakfast for everyone. Yuri sat down on the couch, reading one of the books from the table. Sabra laid down in bed, slowly opening her eyes, looking around the bedroom. She sat up in her bed, finding bandages wrapped around her arms and torso, grunting in pain. Placing her index and middle finger on her forehead, she exhaled sharply.
In the short story “The lottery” by Shirley Jackson, the lottery is an yearly event, that happens on June 27th. The lottery process starts at ten o'clock in them morning. The ending time is not set, because that depends on the population of the town. All the people are gathered, and are organized by their family. Each family sends a person from their family to take a slip of paper out of the black box; this is usually the male head of the family, but a women can draw in the absence of him. Those papers cannot be opened until every family gets a paper. After family gets their paper, everyone opens their up. If your paper has a black dot on it, then that means you are the “lucky” family. The paper with the black dot is then placed back into the box, along with a white piece of paper for each person in the “lucky” family. Each family member then redraws the slip of paper. Then, each person in the family opens their paper up, and whoever got the piece of paper with the black dot on it, you will be stoned to death.
On April 7, Tim arrived on Sean's doorstep and produced $7,500 in cash, saying he’d come for the Cadillac. Seeing the cash, Sean elected to take it. He took the cheque and handed the car keys to Tim. Sean told Tim that Jim had also wanted the Cadillac and would be disappointed. Nothing further was said about the matter, and after some discussion about the memories they had made on the previous summer’s road trip, Tim drove off in the Cadillac. Both Sean and Tim had forgotten there was no motor oil in the car.
It was a warm sunny June day when children-who are off from school for summer vacation- frolicked about in the town square, gathering stones and then piling them up. The wives and husband talk casually with those of the same sex and after a few minutes the wives call their children over. After a few attempts to get the youngsters attention, they scurry over and everyone gather with their families, and Mr. Summers comes to the center with the black box in hand. Mr. Summers checks to see if everyone is h there for “The Lottery” and sees the Tessie Hutchinson is not there, but soon joins the crowd .Everything become more hushed and serious as he mixes up the slips of paper with names of Families and households. One by one, Mr. Summers calls up
But you can bet your boots I’ll be fine! I can get the cart to the center without and help," he yelled as he gave the grocery cart another push it started to turn over, but he was quick to steady it. “Mr. Cassidy, why don’t you use the old truck in your driveway? It would be so much easier. That is if it starts,” explained Justin. Yelling out in annoyance, “Why don’t you leave me alone and mind your own damned business. I can do this myself!” The old man stopped pushing, leaned against the cart, gasping for breath before sitting down on the grass. After resting a few minutes, he stood up, shook himself before giving it a hard push trying to get it down the road a few more feet before he stopped again. The boy knowing his name puzzled him “Who told you my name and what is yours?” Leaning against the cart, Mr. Cassidy asked, unaware anyone in town cared enough about him to know his name. After resting a brief time, he was ready to push the cart again. "Wait a minute, they don’t know me, and I don’t know them,” he declared. Since he was several feet away from him and knew he could outrun him, Justin was no longer afraid of the old man."Everyone in town knows who you are. For your information, my name is Justin Anderson. Because of all of the sugar flowing through his veins John thought it would be wise to steal a golf cart and drive through the tennis courts and on to the putting greens of the golf course with his closest friend David. After being spotted by the club security, John and David were chased around the property until their cart ran out of gas. From there they decided to run out of the area and into the closest gas station to stop and refuel on food and drinks. David bought 4 liters of Coca Cola, a bag of marbles and 5 packages of Mentos. After pondering the store it became clear that everyone had wondered where the two had went. Their cellphones were picking up on dozens of missed calls and text messages. John decided to send out a social media post tagging his location and 10 minutes later the entire party had made its way to the gas station. The 100 or so teenagers were up to no good and decided to walk to their high school down the block. Most of the 100 decided to walk back to the club because they were afraid of being caught but 3 other boys decided to follow John and David through an unopened window of the school

My mother would start the mornings with a “Levantese que hay mucho que hacer”, in translation, “Wake up there is so much to do today”. Every day, the wakeup call was at 5:30 in the morning and it started with a list of chores. Occasionally, we would sleep until 7:30 in the morning on the weekends to more chores and whatever else was on the list. My mother was regimental and the “A” typical Latina mother, very old school. Not a day went by where my brother and me didn’t do chores and helped around the house. Lord forbit that she would have to repeat herself twice on our individual chores. She constantly reminded me that one day I would become a wife and would have to know how to take care of my family, “A man does not like a lazy wife and you would want to stay married to the same man you have exchanged vowels with”, she would say. Seeing that she was remarried two times already, I did not understand why she would expect it from me. None -the-less, I did what I was told and without any galivanting I accomplished every task assigned to me.
Throughout the short story, The Birthday, the writer, Samantha Ashenhurst uses the writing tool: Get the name of the dog. To begin with, Samantha begins the story with a descriptive introduction, which gives the reader the ability to visualize the current circumstance’s atmosphere. For instance, the author mentions the specific kind of drink and pizza, the color of the blinds, the exact number of times she pukes, and takes medicine, etc. She describes the background’s setting in details as well. In my opinion, Samantha’s very specific, which portrays how honest she is. This also leads to building the writer’s own distinct voice. Thus, this effectively initiates a connection with the reader psychologically.

It is like I am dreaming, floating on a cloud telling me, “Amazing goal!” My coach yells at me. I smile and shout, “Thanks,” before I became serious again. When the game restarts, our team steals the ball in the middle. I sprint up the sideline, and our midfielder kick the ball in front of me. I am running toe to toe as the ball starts to roll its way out of bounds. I see the girl who crossed it to me, making a similar run. I have to get this. I think to myself, just feet away from the ball. As the ball hits the sideline, I curve my body around my friend and poke it towards the goal. I fall on my left
