Most nurses decide to take this journey to transition because acute care settings are switching towards an overall RN health care provider, and this makes it harder for the LVN to find a position in the hospital. In my case, transitioning to a role of an RN means becoming more knowledgeable and confident as a nurse, as well as being able to do more for my patients. The expectations are higher of the RN’s even if they have some of the same duties as the LVN’s. In my understanding, the RN’s have to analyze issues even further and use critical thinking to determine what certain conditions are and how they relate to the patient. As an LVN with one year of experience working in home health, I have some experience with situations that require critical
Changes in the Health Care System and the Practice of Nursing have become complex. Technological changes, complicated client needs, short hospital length of stay, and departure from acute care to community based care, all these changes have underscore the need for professional nurses to think critically in order to provide safe and effective client care. A better educated nursing workforce can provide good health education to patients and their families. The affordable care of 2010 has required the need for nurses to expand their role of practice to meet complicated patient demands. This has prompted the Institute Of Medicine to review the “Future of Nursing, Leading change and Advancing Health”. {Creasia & Fribery,2011}
The first task force provided recommendations for identifying patients who may receive an LVAD. Potential candidates should have reversible causes of heart failure addressed prior to consideration (Class I, level of evidence A). Patients being considered for an LVAD must have their transplant candidacy assessed prior to implant due to heart transplants providing superior long-term outcomes (Class I, level of evidence A). Candidates should have their NYHA class and INTERMACS profile assessed prior to implant (Class I, level of evidence C). 4 The INTERMACS has demonstrated significance in predicting mortality and postoperative complications following the implantation of LVADs. 5 Assessing and managing comorbidities is another central component
Transitioning from registered nurse to the role of nurse practitioner can be not only overwhelming, but also intimidating. Even the most experienced nurse can feel like a novice as a new nurse practitioner. As a registered nurse, you have very little autonomy because a physician’s orders are need for majority of the care that is provided to patients. After completing a nurse practitioner program,
The reporting party (RP) stated resident Arev Dabbagh DOB: 12/27/00 disclosed on 4/15/16 she inappropriately touched by a male peer. According to the Arev on 4/14/16 a peer Ibraheem Mamoori DOB: 9/2/98) placed his hand on her shoulder and continued downwards towards her breast. The peer touched her breast over he clothing. The resident was distraught while she recounted the incident. Arev alluded to their being other incidents with the peer and other unknown males. Arev didn't disclose details or clarification. Arev was placed voluntarily in the facility by her mother and will continue her placement for a few more weeks. The peer is currently placed on a 5150 hold and will not have access to Arev in the future.
Newly graduated nurses often lack clinical skills needed to transition efficiently and safely from academics to bedside practice. Nurses at the hospital settings are caring for much sicker and more diverse patients with complicated health conditions under complicated healthcare delivery systems that require applications of complex health informatics and technologies. Implementing transition experiences for newly licensed nurses might provide additional clinical experiences that would improve their nursing skills and reduce training time in their first job that would lead to a successful nursing career as beginning nurses. The new Registered Nurse (RN) residency program could be collaboratively implemented with education and practice (Kim, K. H., Lee, A. Y., Eudey, L., Lounsbury, K., & Wede, P., 2015).
Nursing can be a demanding career, but the benefits far much outweigh the challenges. Most importantly, it’s the rewards it offers by allowing an opportunity to make a difference in another person’s life through the provision of care when they need it. Just as Patricia Benner theorized in her book “Novice to Expert,” nursing encompasses both educational knowledge and extensive clinical experience acquired throughout one’s career. This far, I continue to acquire knowledge and clinical knowhow which will promote proper and efficient care to patients. Since I began practicing one year ago in a long-term healthcare facility, I have interacted with patients, families, physicians and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate patient’s care which has enabled me to gain confidence in myself. While I cannot deny that it was difficult to transition from a student to a licensed nurse, I learnt to overcome these challenges and focus on my strengths. Practicing as an LPN has provided a platform to learn and gain experience even though the duties and responsibilities are limited by the scope of practice.
In the United States of America, there are four functional roles for APN-clinical nurse specialist (CNS), nurse practitioner (NP), certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) and certified nurse-midwife (CNMW). My chosen role is the Advanced Emergency Nursing (AEN) (which is the combination of family nurse practitioner (FNP) and acute nurse practitioner (ACNP)). As an NP, I am training to provide nursing and medical care to meet the complex needs of patients, their families and the communities they live and interact with a holistic focus in both primary and acute care settings. I am therefore expected to improve patients, families and communities health through effective, integrated and coordinated care, contribute to the body of nursing knowledge and practice; and advance the field of nursing through helping to educate the next generation of nurses, and
When asked all that has changed since she herself had graduated from nursing school she pointed out a few different things. “There has been a definite shift in nursing seeking autonomy” (Rowden, 2016). When Rowden first started nursing it was less common to see Nurse Practitioners like she herself will be. She also pointed out that the freedom they had back then was limited. In the actual hospital it is now required that you that you have a BSN to work there especially in the ICU. Although you can still find a few nurses in the hospital that do not obtain a BSN, but an associate degree RN, these people are grandfathered in. All though Rowden did not graduate from nursing school too long ago there still has been some changes which just shows
The transition from the associate degree in nursing to bachelor’s degree in nursing started for me in 2015. I had delayed acquiring the BSN degree due to family commitments. Upon admission into the University of Arlington, Texas for the online RN-BSN program, the first course l registered for was called transition to professional nursing. This class open me up to the meaning of a career or a vocation in nursing. Masters (2014), stated philosophies set for the general meaning of nursing and nursing phenomena through reasoning and the logical presentation of ideas. (Masters, 2014, p. 49). This helped to give me direction on my values, beliefs, and justice, when caring for people in my profession. This helps me to be better able to focus on each
When I was younger I wanted to be just like mom. I would always put on her scrubs and pretend I was a nurse, caring for my stuffed animals. It wasn’t until I was much older that I began to realize just how much nurses do. Registered Nurses (RNs), irrespective of specialty or work placement, perform rudimentary responsibilities which include treating patients, informing the public and patients about different medical conditions, and providing guidance and emotional provision to patients ' friends’ and family members. RNs keep track of patients ' symptoms and previous medical records, help implement diagnostic tests, operate medical equipment, oversee medications and treatment, and assist with patient follow-ups and convalesce. RNs also explain to patients and their families how to properly handle their illness or injury, as well as post-treatment home care essentials, and guidelines for diet and exercise. There are some RNs who are also taught to provide therapy to family members of disparagingly ill patients. RNs work to provide general health information by teaching the public to be cautious of various warning signs and indications of disease. Nursing has played a profound and essential role throughout history as a profession that exemplifies the conservation and refurbishment of health. Today the demand for nurses is at its highest. With that, education and experience is essential to establishing yourself in this field. With a projected growth rate of nineteen
Nursing with confidence takes years of growth and experience in caring for patients. Imagine working within a hospital setting with a support systems of colleagues or peers, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals (lab, X-ray, Pharmacy) just a phone call away; then becoming a community health nurse (CHN) where resources can be scarce? Ellis and Chater (2012) define this transition as “the time of major adjustment and ‘culture shock’ to describe the experience” (p.90). Transitioning to a CHN will cause stress, upheaval, and disruption
Thank you, Felicia, for your contribution. I have been comparing my nursing school curriculum to the current curriculum at my practicum setting, and I am amazed how much things have changed. It was the same program I attended, but yet it seems so different with so many improvements and innovations than when I was a student. The current state of affairs in health care settings has a far wider reach and dictates how nurses are trained to meet the demands of the health care consumer. Patients are being admitted with more than one comorbidities, making is essential for nurses to well-educated, proficient in skills, critical thinking, and clinical judgment skills in order to hand complex patients, and this attributes clearly differentiate the prudent
A newly graduated nurse has spent significant time completing schoolwork, acquiring skills, completing clinical experiences, and understanding his or her role in the world of medicine. The transition from a graduate nurse to a competent nurse on the hospital floor has been an area of concern for new graduates as well as their employers (Hoffart, Waddell, & Young, 2011). A graduate nurse is hired by a hospital to provide care for patients. If this new nurse feels overwhelmed by the transition and the job responsibilities, the nurse may very well leave that new job. It will cost the hospital approximately $85,000 to replace that nurse with another new nurse (Culley et al, 2011). Without intervention, this could be an ongoing
Being a registered nurse affords one the option of working in many diverse healthcare settings. In any practice setting the climate of health care change is evident. There are diverse entities involved in the implementation and recommendation of these practice changes. These are led by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the Institute of Medicine (IOM), nursing campaign for action initiatives, as well as individual state-based action coalitions. Nurses need to be prepared and cognizant of the transformations occurring in health care settings as well as the plans that put them at the forefront of the future.
LV should focus more on the Europe and US markets, and the absolute and aspirational customer segments. According to date of world luxury goods market study, both Europe and Americas markets together shared over 65% of the total market in 2011, while they were also predicted to have over 5% growth in next year. What is more, data of competitor sales analysis also show that most of them had high revenue in those two markets. As it is well known, Europe and Americas are the traditional market for the luxury industry and almost have huge customer base who are main the absolute and aspirational customer segments. As to focus on them, LV needs to spent more money on built high as well as upper class fashion and offer more made-to-measure and high quality product and/or services. In the same, the degree of rivalry was high in this two market where all the luxury companies targeted and
