Throughout my life, I have always known that helping others would be an integral part of my career. In college, I searched for my identity and looked at a variety of career paths. However, I always came back to public service. It is the only profession that perfectly matches my personality and goals. In the public sector my job is more than a paycheck because I know the work I perform makes a difference. While there is certainly more fortune, free time, and privacy to be found in other careers, especially in the private sector, I cannot think of a more rewarding occupation. The College of the Holy Cross offered me an excellent education and shaped me both as a student and a person. However, I believe this is only the beginning. Entering the MPA program at Clark University will provide me with the educational foundation to achieve my professional and personal goals. I have already taken three courses in the program and performed very well. I find it very rewarding when I learn new skills that help me better manage the Election Commission office. I am a new manager and the MPA program is preparing me to contend with issues of personnel administrations, budget planning, legal issues, and ethical concerns. Most importantly in the MPA program I …show more content…
After carefully considering my aptitude, interests and the nature of my training, my focus has always been first toward graduate school and then law school. What pulls me towards law is the opportunity to search for the truth and help people through difficult situations. I am a individual who cares strongly about his surroundings and will not be satisfied unless I am impacting the people around me in a positive way. I look forward to practicing law with professional excellence, commitment to fairness, justice, compassion, and the highest ethical standards. I would like to continue to serve my community, especially the
Experience in, or the ability to acquire specific knowledge of, the health and human services and government relations and policy development
I am extremely interested in attending the Fordham University School of Law. However, I will visit and apply to other law schools as well. It is never good to be close minded, keeping an open mind allows for opportunity to make an appearance. As a lawyer, I hope to help as many people along my career as I can. Foremost, I am a humanitarian. I seek to provide help to those who need it the most. As a lawyer, I will not only give my full effort to my client but I will seek out the justice they
I feel my experience working with a family law attorney on CPS cases this semester, while balancing my school and athletic schedules, shows my commitment to making a difference in my community through advocacy. I will bring this passion for child advocacy and public interest
in Business Administration with an emphasis in Business Law from Cal. State Northridge, and the second B.S. in International Business from Instituit Commercial de Nancy, located in Nancy, France. In the following year, I have plans of attending law school in order to advance my career and achieve my career goals. In terms of my careers goals, I want to be able to give back to my community and work in a position where I can leverage my experience, skills and education to craft policy to help those who are at a disadvantage in our communities. In the last election, I launched a bid for a local city council seat. Although ultimately I feel short in the race, I was able to get my opponents to speak and take positions on issues that no one talked about. Like education, youth civic engagement, homelessness. In addition to this, I met leaders within the community who have reached out to me to get the youth perspective of our community. I am a very enthusiastic, self-driven quick learner with a wide variety of skill sets ranging from experience in customer service and critical thinking. I also have a wide variety of strong leadership attributes that contribute to making well-informed critical
That is why my first summer after high school I became an intern at the Michigan Republican Party in the capital city of Lansing, Michigan. I came there with an intent to get my feet in the water of the political world and earn the respect and recommendations of my superiors. Now I hope to do that on a larger scale and make a respectable name and reputation for myself in our nation’s capital. Another vital reasoning for a desire to be in this program is to fulfill another goal I have in mind, to graduate from the University of Michigan in three years. Already earning more than a semester’s worth of credits from Advanced Placement, this goal is not far off; however, I need to spend my summers earning credits in order to fulfill this objective. This program offers a unique opportunity to simultaneously study and intern, making progress towards both my degree and professional network while acquiring valuable work experience. Now aside from the focus I have on what I am striving to achieve, I would love to be in this program for
I write to you seeking admission to the MPA program at NIU. I personally believe that the MPA program at NIU is an excellent stepping stone for me to take my next step in advancing my professional career. I also believe that the program will allow me to flourish into an upstanding individual in the field of public administration and within local government.
As a graduate, at John Jay College of Criminal, I have discovered the insurmountable opportunities available to undergraduate and graduates alike in the public administration program; this college has a plethora of opportunities available to students. Therefore, if selected for candidacy on the Masters of Public Administration Student Association a goal for this association is to create the first MPA pilot peer mentor program to help support, retain, and graduate undergraduate students.
For quite some time, I knew that I did not want a bachelor’s degree to be the end of my education; I knew I wanted the challenge of more and could push myself to do so. My motivation to learn and to continue expanding my knowledge also guided me towards law school, as the law and studies of the law are always changing, therefore my education would be too. Becoming an attorney has been a goal of mine for most my life which is why I chose to earn a major in Criminal Justice Studies. However, it was not until college that I truly knew law school was what I wanted to do. Between my own experiences and the courses encompassed with a Criminal Justice major, my interest peaked even more as it gave me hands on experience and
By and far - my passion in life is public service. The ability to serve the community who helped mold who I am today is an almost euphoric feeling. Moreover, using my talents to influence a greater tomorrow is an idea that has stuck to me for the entirety of my life. Even so, public service is in some regards a dying art and it is coincidentally my greatest loves in this life; and I could not imagine a life in which I am not participating or facilitating in building a better life for all of my fellow citizens and brethren. From planning a community food packing event that led to over 56,000 meals packed for the impoverished in our community and Nicaragua to proudly serving as a campaign manager for a local county commissioners race - the idea
Ever since I was seven years old, I have wanted to be a lawyer. The thought of being able to potentially defend the innocent has always been a driving factor in my career choice. Intrinsically, this left me with two options in areas of work: the judicial system or law enforcement. Having these two choices, I have naturally leaned towards the judicial system, since I consider myself an intellectual. In addition to this, I have always had a sort of knack for debate, blowing wind into the fire that is my passion for justice in the form of being a courtroom lawyer. In the future, I definitely see myself being a part of a successful law firm, hopefully in Tallahassee, close to what will be my great alma mater, FSU. I will unequivocally benefit from the superior education offered by FSU, having the best law program in the entire state of Florida.
If I may, allow me first to interject snippets of the past I feel that this will inevitably allow me to decisively relay my long-term goal. Surprisingly, even as a young child my aspirations of being a constitutional lawyer was of no secret. Further, I would surmise that hearing tapes of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speeches, including the words “injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere” bolstered my intent. Incidentally, both of my parents where children of the era of sitting at the back of the bus, and being denied front door, or social function entrance.
In doing this, I plan to invest my life into the well-being of those who suffer injustice in the world. After graduation, I plan on doing a year of service, preferably with an organization that focuses on legal services and advocacy. This is because my dream is to be a human rights lawyer and dedicating a year of volunteer service will give me the experience I need before enrolling into law school. Another reason why I am dedicating one year after graduation to service is because I am very passionate about helping my neighbors. Here at Xavier, I have learned how to be a woman for and with others and therefore I share my gifts, pursue justice and have concern for the poor and the marginalized. I aspire to keep that value for the rest of my life. In doing the service work, I will also keep the value of solidarity and Kinship as this will enable me to build a strong relationship with the people I work with. I will keep this value by respecting and honoring those around me and taking every opportunity given to me to learn from both my peers and
Throughout this journey I realized that these public employees really are trying to make a difference in the world. They do not run off of getting big bonuses or chasing money. Making a difference in peoples lives is what they are after. In my last year of high school I realized that money does not drive me, it’s making a difference in people. 4 years later I made a decision to pursue a degree that not only allows me to give back to my community, but to give back to the nation as a
The day I receive my acceptance letter to the law school of my choice will be the day that my goal is at its fruition. To become an attorney is the reason why I put myself through these demanding classes and strive to do well. An unlikely factor to my success has been my love since the 6th grade.
I define success by how much I am able to be of service to others. Public service is the most honorable profession! You might be a police officer in Nebraska or a nurse in Canada; a mayor in South Africa or a council person in England; a custodian at a
