In the play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, Macbeth one of the main characters throughout the play changes a lot from the beginning to the end of the play. At the start of the play Macbeth is loved by mostly everyone in the kingdom and is known to be a big war hero. But throughout the play Macbeth wants to become King and this obsession of wanting to become King drags Macbeth down as he becomes hated by the end of the play and is considered to be evil. At the start of the play, Macbeth is a well-known soldier throughout the kingdom. He is celebrated and known for being a brave soldier on the battlefield. While the people of the kingdom love and treat Macbeth with great respect, Macbeth himself starts to get the obsession of becoming the King. Once Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth about the idea she is fascinated by it and really pushes Macbeth to become King. The only way Macbeth can become King is he would have to kill King Dunkin in order to become the King. A reader will be able to tell that Macbeth has a thirst for power through the drastic changes of his personality. The first change in Macbeth’s personality happens during Act Two, Scene Two, where Macbeth starts to become overwhelmed with ambition and self-doubt. In the Shakespearean play written by William Shakespeare, Macbeth, seems to be corrupted by guilt and this appears to destroy his inner peace. Macbeth’s character change seems to develop during the middle and after he murders King Duncan. Macbeth develops from a very noble and honest man into a very evil man. This is because he is destroyed by guilt through killing King Duncan. His mind and inner peace are completely destroyed by this traitorous act that he now is a completely different character from what he was at the start of the play. Macbeth’s ambitious ways takes over his whole inner self throughout his time of first wanting to be king. Macbeth was thought to be a great leader and war hero before he was king. Macbeth was hatched an idea by three suspicious witches in whom he had never come in contact with before. They told him that he would one day become King of Scotland. In the beginning of the play ‘MacBeth’, MacBeth was a loyal, good man to his king Duncan then the three witches tell MacBeth that if he kills king Duncan he can become king. For example, in Act 1 scene 3 page 3 the third witch says to MacBeth ‘All hail, Macbeth, the future king!’ This quote is showsing that the witches are trying to get MacBeth to kill Duncan so that MacBeth can become king and rule. How Macbeth's Character Changes throughout the Play In this essay I would be looking at Macbeth’s character on how he changes throughout the play and to base this evidence on weather he was a tyrant or a tragic hero. The play focuses on the changing character of Macbeth and his increasing greed for power. Many factors contribute to the changes to Macbeth throughout the play which cause the character to deteriorate from a man with nobility and good intentions to one who is ruled by ambition and greed.
