Supernatural Powers in Our Life
What if the supernatural had an influence on everyone's life? Would those influences change one’s fate or just the steps? In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare the audience is shown Macbeth, a soldier, fighting for his country and King Duncan. Macbeth is then confronted by three witches’ and given his first set of prophecies, his past, present and future titles. Because of these prophecies he goes on a murderous rampage to gain the title of King. He is then given four more prophecies, all misleading, that build his ambition on wanting to stay king. Although supernatural powers persuaded Macbeth into his demise, he still would have followed the same path without the witches as evidenced by the fact that he is bullheaded and self-centered.
One reason Macbeth would have followed the same path of his destruction is by the fact that he is obstinate. In act one scene three, Macbeth was just confronted by the three witches and commands them to stay. Macbeth orders, “Stay, you imperfect speakers. Tell me more” (I.iii.73). Macbeth is ordering the witches to stay as if he owns them, they then respond by vanishing into thin air. Macbeth acts this way because he believes himself to be the strongest soldier, that everyone should do as he says. In act five scene five, Macbeth is told by a servant, that Lady Macbeth has died. Macbeth follows by not mourning her loss. Macbeth states, “She should have died hereafter” (V.v.20). Macbeth is saying how Lady Macbeth was bound to die eventually so it does not matter at the moment, and puts a blind eye to her death. Showing how Macbeth is like any other leader and gets greedy, not even caring for his own wife, one of the many traits that would have brought Macbeth to his death without the help of any supernatural
