Mad Men
I was rewatching an old show from my childhood on Hulu recently. UFO was a cheesy sci fi show from England. First released in 1970 UFO, was set in the future, a top secret agency battling aliens that were coming to earth and endangering our way of life, in a very Cold War kind of way. We can think of the sexes as equal, but we will always be different, and that difference will always be a determining factor in gender roles. In the past gender had huge ramifications with concern to our lifes path and hopefully in the future that will be less so.
I remember a feminist talking about how our language is rife with sexist terms like manhole-cover. At the time I agreed, but in retrospect I only see men crawling down manholes, not because they are keeping women out, but because it is a job that no one wants to do. If we want to be honest they should be called shitty job hole covers. Men and women are different as a whole and those differences are reflected in our culture, just as our culture is reflected in our
