In the song Space Oddity by David Bowie, major Tom was sent up to outer space, with technical difficulties unsolved, he gives up and wanders off into space. Although major Tom is a character with such a daring and risk-taking attitude, he is revealed to be un-knowledgeable with machines and technology. Major Tom couldn't figure something out with the spaceship’s dead circuits so he resigned and answered to ground control ”Here am I sitting in my tin can far above the Moon Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do”(line ). By giving up so quickly and not being able to fix the spaceship’s problem, the singer shows that major tom and ground control relied on technology to make the trip to outer space a complete success, but were outsmarted
Most songs represent the sun as its protagonist and the moon as antagonistic. In the song "The Moon" the composer ,Andy Beck, sets the moon as the protagonist. Using a different prospective for the moon, Beck uses the moon as a symbol of beauty. The moon becomes a sense of clarity and relaxation to the singer and its listener. Near the end of the song the moon begins to set, while the sun
The writer of the song Neil Thrasher thought he had known everything about his best friend, fellow writer Wendell Molby. But there was one thing he didn’t know about him that his best friend had gotten his high school girlfriend pregnant and he never told anyone about it because they had lost the baby so it hurts him when ever the baby’s birthday comes around it gets to him. Wendell had thought about the idea of writing a song about a couple at 19 that was going to have a baby and it was going to ruin his plans for going to college for football.
That’s they shut everything off.” After some questioning from Steve, Tommy clarifies his statement by saying, “It’s always that way, in every story I’ve ever read about a ship landing from outer space. Shortly after this proclamation, the crowd gets very
Gordon Cooper, or better known as “Gordo,” was the pilot for NASA’s Faith 7. While he was orbiting Mercury, his whole ship short-circuited, which meant there was no electricity powering the control systems. He had to manually re-enter Earth’s atmosphere. That required a lot of math, skill, and courage. Gordo managed to land safely, and the whole way through he was perfectly chill. Even though I would be panicking if I was in a spaceship in the middle of nowhere, I would enjoy that kind of scenario. You have to really think under pressure because it is life or death. I like to look out for opportunities that strike out of the normal daily routine. This makes life exciting. It’s like playing the card game BS. You could win the game by not lying
The first song that I listened to was Breakthrough by Tia Fuller. In the video, it includes a group of young, talented players including Miki Hayama on the piano, Miriam Sullivan on the bass, Kim Thompson on the drums, and Khalil Kwame Bell on the percussion. The melody was really catchy and you can hear that the alto saxophone is the main instrument. When Tia Fuller played the alto saxophone, she barely rests. The song is a fast tempo song.
Josh Ritter’s “Another New World” is a somber and haunting song, released in 2010 and under the genres of Alternative and Indie. Its purpose is to describe and entertain, much like a story. The audience stems from this purpose, and includes those who enjoy storytelling, or the alternative type of music. The interpretation of this song is influenced by the subject and voice, and the effect of this piece relies heavily on the use of sibilance and personification.
Musician, song-writer, and social activist, Pete Seeger wrote the hit “Turn! Turn! Turn!,” which was popularly covered by the American rock band, The Byrds. Seeger adapted the lyrics from Ecclesiastes chapter 3. Before delving deeper into the meaning of Ecclesiastes 3 in class, I would have seen little to no difference between the meaning of the Bible and the meaning of the Seeger song. For me initially, both the song and chapter expressed the notion of life’s beautiful and dark times: the time for joyously dancing about the room or the time for feeling frozen with grief. But, when reading and discussing Ecclesiastes in class, I finally read the verses in a larger context. As a whole book Ecclesiastes has a more negative tone, even expressing the uselessness or the meaninglessness
On April 10th James "Jim" Lovell, John L. Swigert, and Fred W. Haise embarked on one of the most historic missions in NASA history. Three days later on April 13th, while performing a routine stir on the O2 tanks, the Apollo 13 mission suffered a terrible electrical malfunction and was forced to make an emergency return mission. The movie has forever contributed two phrases to our everyday cultural vocabulary, "Houston we have a problem", communicated by Jim Lovell, and "Failure is not an option", voiced by Gene Kranz.
The ideals of music are related to the fact that music awakes a person inner feelings and open their human expression. As for Edna music allows Edna to express her feelings to the outside world.Pg25 song called "solitude" illustrates Edna's feeling of feeling alone ,in which Solitude allows an individual to escape the darkness of society and be more concerned with oneself. Music allows Edna to forget the misery she as upon, and find peace within herself,at this time Edna is more concerned with herself than her family. Edna absorbed the notion of individuality. Music as well as art had influenced her emotional awakening to the fact that, drawing allows Edna to escape society duties, and draws for the purpose of self-expression. Art is the only

Imagine that you went to a trip. When you come back, you can’t wait to share your interesting experience with your friends and give them all those souvenirs you just bought. While your friends don’t show any interests at all. What happen you wonder? Are they no longer my friends? Later you find out that someone spread some unreal dirty secrets of yours. For some reasons most of your friends believe in it. So they decided to cut you lose. During World War II, Japanese Immigrants have face the same situation. Fort Minor’s song “Kenji” suggests war only brought us destruction. I agree with that because of two major reasons. Firstly, a war can make innocent people suffer; secondly, a war can easily break the trust within the society.
Music has played a large role in my life for some time, now. My musical interests vary, greatly as I try to appreciate each and every song equally. I believe this because I know that each artist creates this work of art which takes a great deal of time and effort. With that being said my ten songs, for the most part, a bit different from one another, but they are each very special to me in their own way. I would place these songs in the ‘indie’ category. My older sisters introduced me to this genre of music at a young age. I appreciate them for this because I would not listen or know the songs I cherish now, without them exposing it to me. I chose these songs because of that reason. Both of my sisters, Cristine and Gabriela, have been great
When we are young we focus on ourselves, having fun, and forming our identities. Most of that vanishes once we grow old. Education and society take away the opportunity to seize the day and to realize who we really are. Supertramp’s ‘’The Logical Song’’ focuses on life when we are young, and how it all changes once we start school and grow up. Life moves on and, we become average joes who sold off their dreams to work in an office. First of all, in the opening verse, when the speaker is young, he describes life as ‘’magical’’ and ‘’beautiful.’’ He makes it sound as though life is worry-free and that he has time to admire the ‘’birds in the trees.’’ However, then ‘’they’’ send him off to school, and he loses his worry-free life and becomes
According to Leech (1974: 13), a meaning is concerned with conceptual and connotative meaning. Conceptual meaning is the meaning when a lyric covers basic, essential component of meaning that is conveyed by the literal use of a word. While Connotative meaning is the meaning implied by a word that is apart from the thing which it describes explicitly. Related to the analysis of both music videos, it could be seen that Blank Space song lyrics contain more verbal signs with connotative meaning rather than conceptual meaning found in it. The total of 45 lines with connotative meaning, 39 lines with conceptual meaning, and 2 lines with double-meaning were found in Blank Space song lyrics.
Every true story ends in death… and this is a true story. Gale sayers is a very good football player, but not very many people know about his backup Brian Piccolo. Brian is a very shy and outgoing man, he will not stop even when he wants to. Gale sayers is a shy man, he does not talk very much, unless it is to brian. The story Brian's Song is about a white and black football player as friends, going through the thick and thin, the ups and downs, and when you just need each other.
