As the daughter of Immigrants, it has always been clear to me that my parents made a great sacrifice of leaving their country and their family to offer my sister and I a better life. Both of my parents never got the chance to attend college and achieve their career goal, but because of their hard work, sacrifices, and never ending support, now, I have the opportunity to fulfill my dream career. Some people are passionate about fashion, some people are passionate about design. But over the years growing up as a little girl, I have always been passionate about make up. I am inspired by the self taught make up artist that I come across on Instagram and Youtube everyday. It amazes me how these people can impeccably create art just by using the right tools and skills. To me, make up is a great way to express myself artistically, it’s a form of art. I don’t just put on make up because I have to, it makes me happy, it makes me feel more put together, it is something that I put my time and effort into doing and perfecting. I love everything about it, the confidence it gives me, how diverse it is today, and especially the endless boundless options that you can do. My career goal is to continue to learn and improve my skills so that one day become a celebrity make up artist and open my own salon. …show more content…

Paul Mitchell will help me reach my future dreams. My goal is to keep good grades and graduate from a well known beauty school. My dream is to work at a high class facility where I can use my skills and knowledge in this type of art everyday. Paul Mitchell can help start my career, build up a client list, and me to become known as a skillful beautician. If I ever get the opportunity, I am also open to the idea of starting, owning, and running my own business one day. I believe that I can accomplish anything if I put my mind to it and I always set my goals based off of the idea that “the sky's the
I’m raised in an environment filled with negative stereotypes, high dropout rates, fewer resources, and low expectations. As a Mexican American from the San Fernando Valley, educational opportunities do not come often. In middle school it massed into my head that going to college is my way towards success. Soon it became the only option for me and as a result, I joined Project Grad to begin my journey towards college. They introduced me to the Chicano Youth Leadership Conference during my junior year. After applying and attending, the conference eliminated the label that Latinos are not college material. Subsequently, I grabbed as many opportunities as I could. In my junior my school did not put me in any AP classes. Therefore, I went to go
An accomplished Alaska high school coach is taking the reins of the Lane Community College cross country program this fall. Those are just figurative reins, of course, unlike the literal reins Bill Steyer has held in the past as a competitive sled dog musher.
Let me ask you a question. Have you ever been questioned about your dream career, or what you want to achieve as an adult, or even now. Chances are you have, but, did you ever take the time to really think about that question and finally distinguish that you want to be an Astronaut or a Surgeon or maybe even a Scientist? Well, if you did then there’s almost no doubt that you’ll need to attend college to acquire the certain level of skills you need to become that person that you dream to be. Obtaining a college degree will almost guarantee that more and more opportunities will come knocking on your door because a college degree is a stepping stone to success and companies and businesses are very much aware of that. Success is what people are looking for and a degree verifies that you qualify to achieve great things. Oh, and did I forget to mention that that vast majority of people with a college degree make a lot more money than people with just a High School diploma or being a High School drop out for that matter. However, aside from qualifying for an immeasurable amount of career options, a College education has shown to help with communicating with others, which might not just help with job benefits, but also with relationships on another level.
Why aren’t students getting immersed in their class materials? Before taking classes that will prepare students to their major, it is required for them to take general education (such as English and math), causing most students to be distressed to get the classes over with. Multiple students only strive to get into a practical career, rather than taking the time to focus what's the material is about. Specifically, I began thinking if other college/university vocational major students have thoughts that liberal art classes would be irrelevant to them for their future career. Furthermore, does being in a vocational or liberal arts major have an effect on how students engage in their classes.
As a young child, I had the opportunity to move from Brasil to America. Although it was a challenge, I overcame many obstacles that allowed me to grow as a person. The language barrier was difficult, but with dedication, I was the first to graduate out of my English as a Second Language class. I grew a strong bond with other Hispanics throughout that time, which further helped form a passion to help Hispanic countries through Hugs 2 Honduras, a club that focuses on fundraising to help communities in Honduras. Along with Hugs 2 Honduras, I participated in the fundraising process for Westfield’s first Dance Marathon. After raising some money for the event, I took a leading position with some other senior girls in a program called Kind Campaign. This program was created to bring awareness to girl-on-girl bullying, and the senior girls led the freshman
Moving my whole life to the United States was a special challenge to me. I had to be familiar with life style, environment, education system, culture, and tradition which are different from my country Iraq. Before I moved to the United States, I spent three years in a university in Iraq; however, these years in the university did not help me to get to the college level in the United States. It was like I needed to start from zero. I did not give up because I have a goal to be a doctor. Therefore, I took ESOL classes, passed Texas Admission Test, and now I am in my Junior year.
Pathways to Careers: Community Colleges for Youth and Young Adults with Disabilities Demonstration Project (SCA 14-03)
To many high school students, college seems like a far away land, a mysterious place where everyone wants to be yet not many know how to get there. As children, our parents tell us how much time we have to think about college, and that it is too far down the line to think about. The truth is it is never too early to think about your future. I, like many people, put little thought into my future career and now am lost in an unfortunate mix of indecision and anxiety. Not knowing where you want to be in the future is a hard burden to bear. Many of us tend to find out that we only know what we do not want, not what we actually do want. Do we want to be poor? Absolutely not. Do we want a boring job? Of course we don’t. We all want our
College will be a major change for me; in all likelihood, it will probably be the most significant transformation I will experience. It will be a time of growth and learning. In order to adapt to these many changes I hope to mature both emotionally and spiritually. In doing so, I will influence those around me and the community as a whole. I anticipate that my life experiences will prove to be valuable to me and to those I come into contact with.
A student's job is not done after the end of the day. There is always homework that still needs done or checked, editing a paper, studying for the test that is coming up next week, doing their own notes for chapters they read, reading textbooks, and trying to have a social life. They are still trying maintain good grades as best as they can. During all this pressure for freshman year college students tend to forget their roles in the classroom, responsibilities, and having mental and physical impediments for their learning. Students have the constant worries and fears but it still bad when getting yelled at by their parents, teachers, and their school for lack of engagement in the classroom. By helping the freshman year college students, it
There are many reasons why I want to transfer from a two year institution to a four-year school such as furthering my education, to learn new skills and to stand out form others when trying to get a job. Going to a four-year college will give me access to more material and classes that would allow me to gain new knowledge. I currently am a psychology major, there are a lot concepts that I need to fully understand how the human mind works. me in the field I want to go into. Four year institution teaches at a higher level , this allows me to gain a deeper understanding of the many concepts of psychology and further my education considerably. Also, these institutions offer a lot of internships opportunities that allow for one to gain skills that
As a high school senior, I spent all year searching for a compatible college that fits my requirements. I wanted a college that is affordable, so when I graduate I am not stuck with a massive debt. I wanted a campus that is has friendly people and feels like home. Finally, the college must provide me with the right skills to start my career. With those three standards in mind, I narrowed my choices to one perfect college.
After graduating high school, no one prepares you for college. Most kids when they are finished with high school don’t even fantasize about going back to school. I have always wanted to go to college ever since I was a young kid. I also had dreams of myself going to college, but in my dreams, everything was picture perfect. In reality, college has been very challenging for me. No one tells you about the adjustments and complications that you would have to face to become a successful college student.
WPI is the first step I am taking that will reach to what I want to achieve in my life. I believe I would be a good fit for WPI because of the learning experience I received from the STEM program. I have the exposure of what it like to work in engineering, technology, and science field and how each individual play an important role in our society. More specifically, technology had grabbed my attention and I wanted to pursue more into it. I again got the opportunity to witness what it was like to be working in those three field when I was invited to go on the Girls STEM Summit field trip in WPI. During the trip, we got a glimpse of the variety courses that we could take under those fields. I thought it was really welcoming because the
