Makena Compoc Professor Sturdevant 5/5/2017 Why Did We Need the Constitution? Taking a look at the events that led up to the American Revolution, one could assume that eventually the 13 colonies were going to rebel against Britain. Events that led to the American Revolution include the Stamp Act and the Townshend Act, which eventually led to the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. After all of these events, the 13 colonies decided that they wanted to declare their freedom from Britain. Thus, sparked the American Revolution lasting six years, and after this came the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the drafting of the U.S. Constitution. The French destroyed the British fort and forced them to surrender. Meanwhile, Washington and an Indian named Tanaghrisson invaded a French camp in Pennsylvania. The leader of the camp, Ensign Joseph de Jumonville explained that the French were on their way to warn Britian about invading the so-called “French territory” in the Ohio River Valley. In the midst of negotiating, Tanaghrisson killed Jumonville. Preparing to defend his men from the French, Washington build a fort but was forced to surrender by a French/Indian ally. Dinwiddie heard of the news, and reached out to the bordering colonies, only receiving a response from North Carolina who said they would only fight within their own colony. The colonies reached out to Britain for help, and France reached out to the other European countries for help, and thus began the Seven Years War. The Seven Years War lasts until 1763, when the Treaty of Paris is signed, giving Britain control of Canada and all of the territory west of the 13 colonies. It was during this war when the colonists lived in fear of towns being raided by the British and French, but also any conflicts or battles that may arise between the Indians.
