In chapter five Malala goes through a lot of guilt. She has a friend that lived down the street that had a whole box of plastic play jewelry, and Malala had a pink plastic phone that her father had given her, she would pretend to talk on the phone whenever her father talked on his phone. Her friend with the play jewlery had been eyeing up Malala's toy phone for a while, and one day Malala could not find her phone. She later saw that the girl had a pink plastic phone that was identical to Malala's, so she assumed that the girl had stolen her phone. When Malala told the girl that it was her phone and that she had stolen it, the girl replied that she had bought in in the bazaar. Malala got angry, so when she went over to the girl's house to study, …show more content…
She states how proud she is that her country was the first to be the homeland of the Muslim religion . She states the Quran says that patience is needed, but she thinks it is still unfair that women are treated the way they are. She says that it is unfair that women have to stay at home cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children while the men get to go out in the world and work or become educated. She then compares this to the country's politicians, she says that they are misusing the opportunity. She says that India is made up of mostly Hindus and she some of them tried to cross the border into Pakistan, a Muslim country. Many of them were violently killed in the process, one of them being Malala's grandfather. What she just described was the mess all of it is, her country, her neighboring country, everything. Malala then talks about one of the areas of her country where they are very intensely emotional about their religion, in one celebration they whip themselves with chains and razors. She goes on to later state that Pakistan is a Place of many religions. This is supported by the lines “ but within again are many groups.” page 50. I believe the reason she talks about all of this is for multiple reasons. First she wants to show how diverse one place can be even if the place is supposed to only be of one religion, supported by “We …show more content…
Her family had just moved again to an apartment building, there were two stories in the building and a water tower on top. Malala's mother was scared because she thought the building was going to collapse on them, but Malala's father told her that the day they die is written by God and you cannot change that. They then want to bed, and Malala explained that whenever there is a disaster their family thinks that it is the day of judgment and they look back on all of their sins. It was a very large earthquake, Malala states that more than 73,000 people had been killed in it. Communicated by the words “ More than 73,000 million people had been killed” page 55. Malala the tells about how her government would not help them and other organizations had to come in and help. She spoke about a locally based foreign aid company, TNSM, one of the publishers of some of their school books gave them supplies and money, the Americans (especially those in Afghanistan), and the JuD who set up camps with hospital tents and good medical equipment. Getting to the place where Malala lived was difficult, her father had gone up into the mountains to help some of their family and told Malala that coming back was challenging because of the boulders, missing roads and rivers. The first to come to the rescue were the TNSM, they sent in helpers. The second, America, bringing in helicopters of supplies and helpers. Some of the supply packs would
The article , “Malala the Powerful”, By Kristin Lewis, describes a girl who got hurt for what she stood up to in the world, so her and other went through lots of courage and challenges. That are still happening in this world today. But a lot of what she and others went through is still going on today in Taliban. Malala was a girl who fought for others girls to be in school that affect the world because if the taliban knew the would kill them or hurt them are something like that. when the Taliban came around and stroll the streets she still went to school, but she hid herself and the other children as well. As she was getting on a bus one, day two men walked up and asked for Malala and she got up they shot her. She recovered,
Why? Because she was not only a 15-year-old girl; she was also a crusader for girls’ right to go to school. This work had made her famous throughout Pakistan and around the world. It had also made her a target of the Taliban.” (6) This is also a challenge because Malala would be risking a lot of things by standing up to the Taliban and going to school. She would be risking the death or torture of herself and her family. The article stated, “The bullet severely damaged her hearing and fractured her skull, causing her brain to swell dangerously. Fortunately, the physicians in Birmingham were able to control the swelling. Over the past months, she has undergone several operations to repair her skull and improve her hearing.” (9) The last challenge is a big challenge for Malala because she will have to go through many surgeries to fix the damage from the bullet that the gunmen shot at her. Her brain and hearing might never get back to normal or how they were before the bullet hit her.
The article, “Malala the Powerful” by Kristin Lewis, describes the roughness of Malala, a Jewish girl, who like many girl Jews, crumbled in the hands of Taliban. Malala was alive when the Taliban took over Pakistan. She and many other girl jews were kicked out of school and forced to follow all these stitched rules. In 2009, Malala took action and started a blog. She talked on T.V shows about how hard life was like and was standing up to the Taliban. In 2010, the Taliban shot Malala in the face but she and many other Jews still survived. Though she lived in rough and tough challenges, Malala show lots of courage trying to stand up to the Taliban and their powerful government.
Malala had many hardships along the way of her crusade here are some challenges. First, “the Taliban began seizing control of Swat. When Pakistan army tried to stop them, the Taliban responded with tremendous violence. They blew up government buildings and murdered police officers.”(9). This is a challenge because the Taliban was taking control and they were making all the girls not be able to go to school and they were making unfair laws. More, they were killing police officers and blowing up buildings. Also, “In 2010, notes began appearing under Malala’s door, ordering her to give up her crusade or else. But she refused to back down, and on October 9, 2012 Taliban gunmen shot her and two others on the school bus.”(8) The text also said, “‘Who is Malala’ one of the men demanded.A feeling of terror filled the bus. And then the unthinkable happened: the gunmen opened fire. One bullet
This took place in Mingora, a city in the Swat Valley. The Taliban were trying to kill Malala and her whole family. They were also tracking her so they had a target to kill. One challenge was that Malala was getting targeted by the Taliban, every day, an all day. “ This work made her famous throughout Pakistan and around the world. It had also made her a target of the Taliban.(6) This was a challenge because they knew who she was and they knew where she was at. It was also a challenge because when you are getting tracked, it is really hard to hide from somebody who is trying to kill you and knows where you are at every day. Another challenge that Malala had to face was her “getting banned from music, television and movies”... “Also they weren’t allowed to go to school, have careers, wear makeup, and bright clothing.”(6) This was also a challenge because you see other kids just like you playing around and doing whatever they want to do without getting in trouble. But if you tried doing in, you would get in big trouble, like getting shot, getting whipped, or even getting your family kicked out of there house and even the state. This is also a challenge because you might see other Taliban wearing bright colors and listening to music, while are sitting outside and just watching them do what you can not do. It was also a challenge because if you were dreaming about being a lawyer or something, you couldn’t do that. Even though you see other people in suits at 9:00 in the morning going to work. The last challenge that she had to face was that she had to undergo a lot of surgeries for her brain and the tissues inside her brain plus the cells. “ She has undergone several operations to repair her skull and improve her hearing.” (9) This is a challenge because she had to take a lot of surgeries constantly almost every month. It is also a
Malala starts by reminding readers how convenient life is in modern countries, and continues to describe the day she was shot, telling readers about everyone’s reactions and her memories of the day. She presents the question, “Who is Malala?” and proceeds to tell us her story, ending the prologue. Malala Yousafzai was born in the Swat Valley to Toor Pekai and Ziauddin Yousafzai. Malala had noticed gender inequality as a young child. Her father, Ziauddin grew up with an unfortunate stutter. Luckily, his passion about many political topics let him overcome his stutter, especially after memorizing and studying many of his
each other. Even with the Taliban’s increasing oppression Malala’s family is there for her and supported her through it all. Malala’s village and friends are basically all family. Even when she was shot her village and friends were praying for her. She says “People prayed to God to spare me,and I was spared for a reason- to use my life to helping people..” ( Yousafzai 301). This quote really shows how much her village really cares about her and her family. While Malala was at the hospital she read Alice in Wonderland, and what she wrote about how she interpreted it was really interesting. She says “She(Alice) had to overcome a lot of obstacles to get to where She was going, and I thought if you want to achieve a goal, there will be hurdles in your way, but you
Malala a young pakistani girl grew up loving education which was highly encouraged by her father who served as the principal at the local school. This is why she didn't understand when suddenly she was told it was against her religion. She studied the Koran religiously so she understood a lot of it and new that they were incorrect. All that she wanted was a chance to learn in peace. She began her acts of defiance by continuing to go to school and encouraging her friends to feel confident in going to school with her. Malala’s home became more dangerous because the Pakistani Taliban became more confident and many of her friends stopped going to school. Despite this, she felt more confident in her stance and began writing anonymous diary entries that were published in the UK. She stated in one of her entries “What have I done wrong that I should be afraid? All I want to do is go to school. And that is not a crime. That is my right,” (Yousafzai and McCormick 53). The world began to learn what was happening, which began a long journey for her stance. Malala's identity was later discovered.
Kristen Lewis’ article, “Malala the Powerful” was about how a girl as shot in the head by the terrorist group, the Taliban because she was using her voice to stand up and say everyone deserves an education, especially girls. In Pakistan, the religion is strict therefore the Taliban decided to control the government, that made life for women and girls brutal. The Taliban ordered that girls were not allowed to attend school. Malala completely disagreed so she used her voice on the internet incognito to bring awareness about what was happening. The Taliban was out of control, Malala’s family was forced to move South. With all the commotion she revealed her identity, making her well known world wide. Once news broke on who she was, the Taliban
“To provide readers with a personal, realistic view of what was going in the Swat district, Malala shared experiences from her daily life with World via the internet. ”(Rowell, 50) Malala even gave public speeches, Malala gave a famous public speech when she was 11 years old. The book states “On September 1, the young student gave a speech: “How Dare The Taliban Take Away My Basic Right to an Education.” These actions were awfully dangerous, she was fully risking her life. Malala’s dangerous and brave actions affect others to rise up against injustice.
Malala’s first reason is Malala’s early life affected who she would become. The first piece of evidence is, her school uniform was stained with blood (Leiby, 2014). For her second piece of detail it is, Malala’s valley has always disliked her face. (Leive, 2013) for her final detail relating to this paragraph it
The bullet had traveled through her head, neck and left shoulder, but miraculously Malala had survived the attack. After the onslaught she was rushed to a hospital in Birmingham, England. Once awake, Malala didn’t feel any resentment towards the Taliban, but she felt disappointed at the fact she wasn’t able to speak to them before they had shot her. She wanted to tell them just how wrong they had been about girls being insignificant and not wanting the opportunity to have an education. Once the world had learned about her story she was given lots of support for what she was trying to accomplish.
As the chapter opens, Malala has just been shot by a Taliban soldier. The bus driver, Usman Bhai Jan drives the bus as quickly as he can to the Swat Central Hospital. The news of Malala’s shooting spreads very quickly, and within only a few minutes, a local has called Ziauddin with the news that his daughter’s school bus has just been attacked. Ziauddin who was not yet aware that Malala was shot rushed to the nearby hospital, where his shocked to find that his own daughter was one of the Taliban soldier’s victims. Malala survived
Malala was a special girl. She lived in Mingora, Pakistan, where it eventually was controlled by Taliban. She attended a school that her father founded which was taken away by the laws against education for girls that the Taliban was creating to destroy. In the year of 2009, she became a blogger for BBC to talk about the horror of the control that the Taliban were achieving. But on the same year, she was threatened was eventually shot in the head by a Taliban. It was an ordinary day and “Malala was sitting in her school bus when a man climbed on board and demanded to know “Which one of you is Malala?” When she answered, “I am Malala”, the man opened fire” (Kennedy- Macfoy). However she survived the bullet and actually gave one of the biggest messages ever, education for all girls. No one knew should would live and will make a change on the gender roles towards education, especially the Tailban who thought they have gotten away of the assassination. She gave a lot of speeches towards this powerful disapproval of women education and to create a stand that women deserve the right to education themselves. As her ideas and message became to spread, “she became one of the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize” (Kettler). She also got her own day called Malala day on July 12, 2015 where she continued to take action on women education and with Malala funds she was able to open a school in Lebanon. Malala became a symbol over the education for girls and the disagreement towards gender
Malala uses pathos to tell her personal stories to help connect to the reader emotionally. At the start of her novel, she explains herself just like the other girls in her town. On October 9th, 2012, she got shot in the head coming back from school. She gives great details explaining
