When thinking of role models both for leadership and education sadly I was grasping at straws trying to think who has made an impact on my life in some way beyond those with whom I have had a personal relationship. I decided to work backwards to think about what makes a great leader. To me a great leader is someone who is truly selfless and puts their cause before their own personal gain even when faced with extreme circumstances. Immediately my mind went to a young girl that touched my heart and mind not all that long ago: Malala Yousafzai. I learned of Malala’s story through one of the units of study I recently became required to teach on the topic of teens as activists. Upon hearing this incredible girl’s journey I was drawn to her …show more content…
She regularly attended school and continued to do so even after the Taliban moved into the area. The Taliban condemned those girls that were receiving an education and made threats on her father since he was willing to continue to allow females to be educated in his school. Soon Malala herself was targeted due to her unwillingness to stop attending school and who her father was in the community. One day the Taliban stopped the bus that Malala was riding in, boarded the bus looking specifically for her, and shot her in the head. Somehow, someway, Malala miraculously survived this brutal savagery. She then went on to tell her story speaking out all over the world against the Taliban and promoting education across the globe. She had to move to England to receive proper treatment for her wound but even after recovery was forced to stay, unable to return home to Pakistan. Malala has said this is her biggest regret because she wishes she could do even more for her home country in regards to getting girls an education. Her passion for education is both incredible and astounding considering her age, where she was born, and her near-death experience. While reading I am Malala I felt she was teaching me lesson after lesson on what it means to be a good person, a good educator, and in many cases a good leader. One lesson that is quickly learned through
It began as an ordinary day in Mingora, Pakistan, for a young girl returning home from school on her school bus. Suddenly, a masked gunman rushed into the bus and shouted, “Who is Malala?” Her friends on the bus looked back at her, and in the blink of an eye she was shot on the left side of her face. This incident was the spark that ignited a call for change in education around the world. Malala Yousafzai was the face of this change. She made significant contributions to female education rights by being an education activist and urging children to speak out and fight for their rights. She forever changed the lives of Pakistani girls who today benefit from free education and resources with numerous schools around their country.
Numerous people believe that they have the potential of being the next amazing heroine, but how do they start? Some uses violence, others create campaigns. But what is even more powerful than violence and campaigns? A voice, a voice that is willing to speak up for a change in the world. One that is not afraid of what would happen if they express how they feel for humanity. Qualities, like being selfless or having a clear set of values, are important, but the most crucial quality of that voice is having passion and the ability to inspire. Because of the passion that she had, Malala Yousafzai successfully achieved many great things such as gaining countless supporters on her crusade of children being able to attend school and being the World’s
The Taliban were very strongly against allowing women to go to school. Malala was one day shot for her beliefs in women in school. Malala was then sent to Europe to receive the treatment for her injuries, though while she was in Europe, she spread her story, and thanks to all the obstacles she overcame, she was awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom
Malala was a special girl. She lived in Mingora, Pakistan, where it eventually was controlled by Taliban. She attended a school that her father founded which was taken away by the laws against education for girls that the Taliban was creating to destroy. In the year of 2009, she became a blogger for BBC to talk about the horror of the control that the Taliban were achieving. But on the same year, she was threatened was eventually shot in the head by a Taliban. It was an ordinary day and “Malala was sitting in her school bus when a man climbed on board and demanded to know “Which one of you is Malala?” When she answered, “I am Malala”, the man opened fire” (Kennedy- Macfoy). However she survived the bullet and actually gave one of the biggest messages ever, education for all girls. No one knew should would live and will make a change on the gender roles towards education, especially the Tailban who thought they have gotten away of the assassination. She gave a lot of speeches towards this powerful disapproval of women education and to create a stand that women deserve the right to education themselves. As her ideas and message became to spread, “she became one of the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize” (Kettler). She also got her own day called Malala day on July 12, 2015 where she continued to take action on women education and with Malala funds she was able to open a school in Lebanon. Malala became a symbol over the education for girls and the disagreement towards gender
Malala Yousafzai is a young woman speaking as a young education advocate at the Youth Takeover of the United Nations. This was her first speech since she had been shot in the head by the Taliban in Pakistan on October 9th, 2012. The Taliban targeted her because she was blogging about her own right, and the right of all women, to an education. Her purpose is to inform the people of the denial of education to children around the world. She is also trying to persuade her audiences to join her campaign in ensuring all children gain their right to education before the end of 2015. Her primary audience was all of the delegates who attended the Youth Takeover of the United Nations, and all the people fighting for education. Her
In the article, Malala the Powerful by Kristen Lewis, she described how Malala and other people ruled by the Taliban around 2007, had to follow many harsh rules ordered from the Taliban. Many people perished because of not following the religious rules. Malala stood up to the Taliban while they ruled. She did not listen to the Taliban when they said that school was banned. She courageously stood up to the Taliban but yet still got shot. She crazily survived the shooting and is still alive and going to college today. Though the Taliban created huge challenges for Malala, she survived because she stood up to the Taliban with her great courage, and is getting a better education today.
“Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It's about impact, influence and inspiration. Impact involves getting results, influence is about spreading the passion you have for your work, and you have to inspire team-mates and customers,”-Robin S. Sharma. There are many people who have made a positive impact on the world. From fighting for rights, becoming the next top president or even starting an organization. Malala Yousafzai caught my eye. She is someone who never gave up on making her difference in the world. As a young girl Malala has made significant impacts on the lives of young girls throughout the world. She is a young women's education activist who is proud of her standing, has many accomplishments and has worked hard to
Throughout the span of the human race, many people and organization have stood up for the right of others. Some scientists raced against time to produce vaccines that saved millions if not billions of lives. On the other hand, many speakers traveled across the globe to promote individual’s freedom and rights. In wartime, more people regardless of their backgrounds worked tirelessly to save lives of many individuals who faced genocide. Undoubtedly, history has foretold that at any moment in time, people are working tremendously so that other people may have a better world to live. Regarding education, Malala Yousafzai, known as Malala, has put all her efforts in promoting education to every child living on earth. She was a target of an insurgent group, but now she is the savior of many children. Thanks to her works, many children now have an education which they have never once dreamed they would have. Her moral courage will be a legacy that she leaves for humans.
The Taliban issued death threats against her because she was fighting for girls rights to an education. On October 9, 2012 a gunman shot her in the head on her way home from school. After she survived, she gave speeches and still remained to fight for girls education rights. The Taliban kept giving her warnings but she still fought for what she believed in. Malala’s speeches and her never giving up helped her be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2013. She didn’t win but in 2014 she was nominated again and won. Malala still lives and succeeded in getting girls rights to an
When she was finally able to go back to school, she was shot in the head by a Taliban member. After she recuperated, she was more determined than ever to succeed in school and prevent this from happening to anybody else. Her high school success, activism, and determination led her to win a Nobel Peace Prize at the age of seventeen. Since then Malala has entered Oxford University due to her passion for education in high school, and has helped women get education in underdeveloped or taken over
The bullet had traveled through her head, neck and left shoulder, but miraculously Malala had survived the attack. After the onslaught she was rushed to a hospital in Birmingham, England. Once awake, Malala didn’t feel any resentment towards the Taliban, but she felt disappointed at the fact she wasn’t able to speak to them before they had shot her. She wanted to tell them just how wrong they had been about girls being insignificant and not wanting the opportunity to have an education. Once the world had learned about her story she was given lots of support for what she was trying to accomplish.
Malala Yousafzai, simply stated, is remarkable. She is unafraid to speak her mind, despite the penalties she might face. In her book, Malala says, “When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful”. When I first read that line, I stared at the page and thought back to all of the oppressive eras in the world’s past that I had learned about in my history classes and thought to myself, history is happening now, it’s always happening. It’s not just a page in some dusty textbook, it’s a book with never-ending pages filled with amazing people like Malala.
Malala was incredibly smart, caring, courageous, and above all a girl who had experienced so much pain and wanted nothing more than to be happy. When the Taliban took action against Malala for standing up for the right to education, they thought this would silence her forever. Their goal was to kill her because they thought once she passed away their problem would end. However, the plan failed because despite Malala being unconscious due to this incident, she fought for her life and succeeded. After recovering from her injuries, Malala and her family did their best to adapt to their new life in Birmingham, England where they were taken to ensure their safety and avoid another incident like before.
Malala's family happened to be in danger of being executed by the taliban because they were giving their opinion of the the taliban. Both of the girls were trying to get girls education in their country. The Taliban shot Malala but she survived, and she did not quit even though she was in the hospital for a long time.
As a child, she became an advocate for girl’s education, which resulted in the Taliban issuing a death threat against her. A gunman shot Malala when she was traveling home from school, because unfortunately where she lived, girls weren’t allowed to be educated. She survived, and Malala stood her ground. She continued to use her voice to speak out on the importance of education. In 2014, she won the Nobel Peace Prize and is the youngest person to receive it. Malala has touched and inspired people all over the
