Malcolm X the Reformer and the Fighter Malcolm X devoted his life to the civil rights struggle for African Americans. He advocated for African Americans to disassociate themselves with the white man, and he even praised violence. In his speech “The Ballot or the Bullet”, he states that “We want freedom, but we’re not going to get it saying we shall overcome” (Malcolm X). Malcolm X tries to convey that peaceful protests, aren’t going to work, that a more violent approach needs to be taken, to not only show the extent they’re capable of. To as well demonstrate to the public, that this cause is a cause they’re willing to die for. The reason why I identify so much with Malcolm X is, because he taught me that you have to work for everything in this life. Also, he taught me to be self- reliant, and not depend on another’s kindness. Malcolm X way of life, and determination helped spur waves of people whom became future leaders of America.
Joseph Campbell, a scholar and mythographer tells his opinions over what exactly makes a hero and tells of all the different categories of a hero. In the case of Malcolm X, he himself could be seen as a hero who has committed physical deeds. Joseph Campbell quotes that a physical deed is one of “... which the hero performs a courageous act in battle or saves a life.” Malcolm X was a major component in the civil rights battle, he standed up for change during times that were unforgiving. However, Malcolm X can also be seen as a hero who has pledged himself in spiritual deeds. Following, his refinding of himself, and starting to follow the Nation of Islam, he completely devoted his life to overall betterment of African Americans lives. Malcolm X has helped changed the world forever, through his heroism in the matters of him of his spiritual and physical deeds.
Malcolm X was not always the hero, he is portrayed to be today. He in fact, was the opposite of a hero. Malcolm X faced many issues as a youth, from problems at home, in not having parents to look up to, which caused him to turn to look for advice from bulgars, pimps, and prostitutes (Williams 31). Thus these role-models turned him into a robber, he would steal from people's homes, and was caught and sentenced to
Malcolm X was a very interesting and complicated person. Throughout his life, Malcolm had exposure to practically every type of person the world had to offer. In his younger years, he excelled in his community predominately surrounded by whites. He then got into the hustling business within the black community which supplied for all types of people. After that, he joined the Nation of Islam, joining himself with many Muslims. Lastly, Malcolm went on a Hajj to Africa, where his communication with a diverse group of people expanded. Each time Malcolm had a new group of people in his life, he had a different alias to go by. Whichever one is remembered most, Malcolm Little, Malcolm X or El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, his impact on society will be

He is often known as the intellectual, charismatic hero. Although, he was not always that faithful. He was a thug. A hustler. He committed crimes. How did a hoodlum, became a historical figure of Malcolm X? There was many events in his life that changed him, and shaped him to be that somebody. If we trace back his footsteps, his life as Malcolm Little, his life as a thug, his life as a inmate, and his life as a national minister of Nation of Islam, all contributed in creating him and his name of Malcolm X.

Who is Malcolm X? Answers tend to vary by person but in the “Autobiography of Malcolm X”, it really delved into the pivotal details of his life and readers like myself, went on an enthralling metaphorical journey to see the intriguing development of him as a child, a young adult, a convict, a follower, and ultimately a leader. For starters, Malcolm X was not born with the infamous and famous X. His birth name was Malcolm Little and the innocent Malcolm Little was very belittled (pun intended) in majority of his social environments. At a young age, he experiences the pain of losing his father. In retrospect, his father was just a dust in the wind. Malcolm’s dad was like many other socially active black males, who became inevitable victims that usually were murdered, lynched, burned, etc by the white men in their area. Now, to lose one parent is already tough for many individuals but Malcolm was only to be hammered with more bad news. His mother was sent away by government workers to a mental institution because his house was deemed “unstable” (this kind of stuff happened daily to many black families in similar housing situations like Malcolm was in). But Malcolm directed his energy elsewhere. He ends up taking initiative in school and whilst excelling, he ended up loving many aspects of education in America (or so he thought). He climbed his way to become first in rank in his class and even became class president but his dreams was simply crushed by many individuals. One of
Malcolm X was one of the primary religious leaders and reformers of the 1960, where he fought for and ultimately gave his life for racial equality in the United States. His father was a reverend who believed in self-determination and worked for the unity of black people. Throughout Malcolm’s life he was treated horribly by white people, hence shaping his misconceptions of all white people and developing his strong belief in black separatism. It wasn’t until years later where he embraced his black identity and discovered all races could live and work together for a common goal, brotherhood.
Through his journey, we can see a shift in the way blacks were able to live among whites. He encouraged blacks to think for themselves, and whites to stop controlling them. We see that he had an abundance of trials that ended in errors in his movement. First, he was heading down a bad path but was saved by the Nation of Islam. As he began speaking, he fascinated people all around the world with his intelligence and ability to speak the truth. Soon after, he found that his ideas were flawed and found another religion that was much more peaceful. In the end, it was Malcolm’s capability to seek out truth that led him to be one of the most moving civil rights activist in American
Malcolm X lived in a world where society had a set of guidelines: one race always reigned superior to the other--white people held power over black people. As the years passed by, his innocence began to fade away, and his eyes began to focus on the horrendously unfair world around him; he grew bitter, infuriated, and cold. His misdirected anger lead him to take wrong turns down his life’s path, making mistakes out of rage until he was able to find the proper outlets in his religion and his fight for equality. Malcolm X altered the world he lived in by constantly speaking of the discrimination and unequal freedom that he and the black community received from whites. He continues to influence activist groups today, as his teachings influence
He demonstrated his bravery many times in his life as he progressed through his fight for equal rights, one way was he first spoke in front of hundreds of people to tell them to stand up for themselves. Next, he would always state his point no matter the threats he recited, this showed how brave he was to not care about the struggle in order for a positive outcome. I would say being brave made Malcolm X a hero because he not only protected and defended his race, but also managed to get the people to stand up for
Malcolm X is an extremely critical figure that contributed in shaping American social life. He was a famous man who articulated the struggle, anger, and beliefs of African Americans. He was a radical man who fought for change despite the situation. His struggle for equality for the black nation landed him in prison. While in prison, Malcolm was able to study, and earned a college degree. However, most importantly while in prison, Malcolm X was introduced to the Islam faith by one of the prisoners. He received teachings from the Muslim faith, which made him realize that, his people were being oppressed and abused by the whites. While out of prison, he went to visit honorable Elijah Muhammad and later on went around preaching Elijah
Malcolm X was a widely known Civil Rights activist who was assassinated in 1965. He was a morally conflicted man who is criticised heavily to this day by academics for his misogynistic commentary, anti-integration beliefs and crude statements about sensitive topics. Despite this, he was widely regarded as leader of the Civil Rights Movement, and a hero in the eyes of many members of the movement. After his sudden and tragic death, his autobiography was released, and cemented his legacy as a hero of the American movement toward civil rights for African Americans.
Malcolm X was a muslim, black man who cared very much about gaining equal rights. He was, in a way, an extremist. Though only taking action when he felt necessary, when he did take action, it often had drastic effects on the people and events occurring around him. Unlike Martin Luther King or other leading civil rights activists, he did not believe in peaceful protest. He believed in “whatever means necessary” to accomplish his goals. Because of his strong efforts and his unmatched determination, Malcolm X, formally known as Malcolm Little, changed the course of the civil rights movement. If not for him, the events that played out to cause the eventual conclusion of the struggle would have been forever altered.
On April 3 1948, Malcolm X delivered the speech " The Ballot or the Bullet". Malcolm X is a civil rights activist and in this speech he endorses ethnic, monetary and social impartiality. His speech additionally shed light on the idea of religion hindering with justice since it distanced the general population from each other. Many Ministers, such as Adam Clayton Powell and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., are notable for their work for justice, not their religious vocations. He feels that religion is a personal matter and should only be between god and the believer. Political oppression, social degradation and economic exploitation at the hands of the white man needs to end. In order for society to progress, people need to forget the differences of race and religion to be part of a community.
His actions were a major cause for how things are today. Malcolm X died a tragic death, one that some may never forget, and others will never
Malcolm X was a prominent civil rights activist back in the 1950’s to the 1960’s so while he preached he gave us insight into a future of peace and promise, not one filled with hate and spite. He wasn't the type of person who agreed with the peaceful protest and many activists didn't agree with his standing about fighting back against oppression but he still tried to make life better for Afro-americans. He has many quotes that people still agree with til this day and one such quote is “Change is only a good thing if you change in a good way”. He is right about people can change a lot of things but unless it's for the better it's not really a good change.
