By definition, civil rights are the rights of citizens to political and social equality. To simplify that, civil rights are rights that every person should have, no matter what race, color, ethnicity, etc. Some people believed so strongly that everyone should have civil rights, they were willing to risk their own lives for it. People such as Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, Elizabeth Eckford, Ernest Green, Hazel Massery, and many others. One of the many civil rights activists was Malcolm Little, who later changed his name to Malcolm X. Malcolm X was one of the activists who fought back violently. All of these civil rights activists wanted generally the same thing. “Dr. King wants the same thing I want. Freedom” --Malcolm X. Many of them used words, and peaceful protests, many of which were led by Martin Luther King Jr. Malcolm X strongly believed that peace would never solve anything, so he decided to use violence to get his way.

He achieved a high ranking with the Nation of Islam and became a very important part of it. Elijah Muhammad and him created a good bond and he took part in gaining civil rights for African Americans. On February 21, 1965, Malcolm X got assassinated by members of the Nation of Islam. Before his assassination, he had received many death threats by African American Muslims, and on February 14, a week before he got shot, his house was set ablaze, presumably by the same group of people that shot him. Malcolm X is one of the many great leaders that participated in the long and difficult struggle for civil rights. Malcolm X was one of the most prominent civi right activists at the time. He preached Black Nationalism, where blacks separates themselves from the whites completely. He is often known as the intellectual, charismatic hero. Although, he was not always that faithful. He was a thug. A hustler. He committed crimes. How did a hoodlum, became a historical figure of Malcolm X? There was many events in his life that changed him, and shaped him to be that somebody. If we trace back his footsteps, his life as Malcolm Little, his life as a thug, his life as a inmate, and his life as a national minister of Nation of Islam, all contributed in creating him and his name of Malcolm X.
Malcolm now being a free man, he traveled to Detroit, Michigan, where he worked with the leader of the Nation of Islam, Elijah Muhammad, to expand the movement's following among black Americans around the nation. Malcolm felt that when he gave speeches around the country, people would be inspire and want to join the Nation Of Islam. If you didn’t know what the Nation Of Islam is, the Nation Of Islam was an organization of African- Americans, teaching and favoring the separation of black and white racial groups of the United States. Malcolm became the Minister of Harlem and in Boston, he was Temple no. 7 in Harlem and Temple no. 11 in Boston. Malcolm X had emerged as a leading voice of the Civil Rights Movement. Malcolm style of living wasn’t as peaceful as Dr. Martin Luther King. His style was more aggressive, he would want to fight or kill you rather than having a peaceful march and having everyone come together as one.
Malcolm X was also a very great leader during the Civil Rights era. His Islamic religion helped influence how he led those who followed his teachings. He was motivated by anger that was created from white men in the past. That man was Martian Luther King Jr., but many people have never heard of another Civil Rights leader. Even though his protests were different than King’s protests, he did his part and help with equality. This man was Malcolm Little, more famously known as Malcolm X. After a rough upbringing, Malcolm X led protests that differed which ended with his assassination.

The most common type of Jim Crow Laws separated black and white citizens in public places. Some of the places that separated the blacks and the whites were restaurants and theaters. States and cities were able to punish whoever broke the laws. During the 1960s, black people did not have the same rights as white people had. Malcolm X was radical as he had the conception that the only way to improve the lives of African Americans was racial separation. Malcolm X believed that it was best for the blacks to create their own society so they would not have to deal with the whites. He did not like the idea of the black people living with white people. Malcolm X remains to be a hero for many young people today. Malcolm remains as a hero and is still remembered to this day because he changed the lives of African Americans by giving them more freedom. He stood up for black people 's rights and made sure they had the opportunity to voice their opinions in everything. Malcolm helped stop racism and made people 's lives better. Although he made some bad decisions in life, he changed and became a huge impact in many people 's lives.

Malcolm X was a muslim, black man who cared very much about gaining equal rights. He was, in a way, an extremist. Though only taking action when he felt necessary, when he did take action, it often had drastic effects on the people and events occurring around him. Unlike Martin Luther King or other leading civil rights activists, he did not believe in peaceful protest. He believed in “whatever means necessary” to accomplish his goals. Because of his strong efforts and his unmatched determination, Malcolm X, formally known as Malcolm Little, changed the course of the civil rights movement. If not for him, the events that played out to cause the eventual conclusion of the struggle would have been forever altered.
In the pursuit of social justice and civil rights, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Stokely Carmichael, sought to amend a flawed system. To accomplish this task, these men entered the armory and chose to wield nonviolence as their weapon. Their goal: to combat violence with nonviolence, to fight hate with love, and to spread equality through peace. In the end they succeeded. Violence breeds violence, hate breeds hate, it is an ineffective approach and an archaic mean to resolving societies issues.
