I now see that as a critical failure that could have afforded me the information to adjust in the situation and potentially modify my approach. Lastly, in a situation with a Board of Trustees, it is very naive to think you can carry change efforts while key management positions are absent. While it was a key component to change the organizational structure, this process needed to come before cultural changes. I have the desire to affect positive change with my Board role for Roscoe Village in the same way as my college role, but I need to be cognizant of my limitations to do that at least in the same manner. While Roscoe Village has appreciated and tapped my abilities in the past, I am not the Director and can’t assume to carry the same …show more content…
First, I would most likely not entertain such a cultural change before a Director was hired. This is a very difficult choice because the hiring of a Director is the biggest decision made in an organization and to forego that opportunity is unfortunate. Conversely, if I were to include the managers, I believe I could have done several things to assist the effort. I would have utilized a two-way communication method that would assure that I did a better job employing Grice’s communication maxims (Thompson 59). While this would have been difficult from a time perspective, it was very necessary to properly set up the new process for success. I also would have considered having myself or someone else from the Board sit in the interview to shepherd the process. That could have afforded the benefits of the interaction but guarded against negative or unintended outcomes. Lastly, if I had employed these changes, I could have been ready to hold on the entire idea if the employees did not seem ready or if their ideas and true feeling were not aligned with the …show more content…
I think the role and responsibility of a board member complicates this to an even greater degree as you must reconsider your communication and conduct yourself in the language of the entity you are overseeing. Boards of Trustees have different roles and in some situations a board member could be asked to bring their expertise to the entity they are serving. I was asked to be a part of the Roscoe Village Foundation Board of Trustees for my financial and administrative background. The incident that I have studied provided me with a great learning opportunity that displays the mismatch between the culture of the organization that I work for every day versus the culture of the Roscoe Village
The Key point of this case study is to identify and promote effective relationships between the board and the executive director. Clarity of roles and expectations is critical to having a successful board and executive director partnership. Regular communication is also an important component of a successful

Furthermore, the Board’s Regular and non-Regular subcommittee meetings, by law, are lawfully open to the public pursuant to the Alabama Sunshine Laws and the United States of America sunshine meeting laws; in conclusion, the United States of America and Alabama’s citizen Ralph Timberlake respectfully pray your support, your opinion, and your guidance in encouraging the Huntsville Hospital Board members to grant this Disabled Veteran his right and his privilege to see Alabama public officials carrying out the businesses of the great state of Alabama and the beneficent city of Huntsville, Alabama. In 1793 Anderson township was founded by Pioneers near the mouth of the Little Miami River. The original founders moved west from Green County Pennsylvania. The township expanded into farming outposts such as Forestville, Sweetwine, Fruit Hill, (which is the particular section where my house is) and Cherry Grove. Though out the 1800s, large plots of woods in the area were cleared for hardwood and riverboat fuel. The clearing of the forest led to a rise in agricultural activities in the Township. Although the township remained fairly undeveloped until the suburbanization that took place at the end of WWII, this development was due in large part to the development of i-275 and i-471 which give residents of the tristate area direct routs downtown.
I am nominating Mayor Tab Townsell, City of Conway, for the Association’s Mayor of the Year. Mayor Townsell was elected in 1999 and immediately began transforming the City of Conway. Under his leadership Conway has grown in population and industry. A new police facility was built in 2009, new first class parks and recreation venues were constructed, high tech companies are locating in Conway and shopping centers are continuously being built. This growth, under his leadership, has propelled Conway to the one of the top cities for recreation and shopping venues. Throughout my time as police chief, Mayor Townsell has encouraged and supported me in my educational and professional growth. He recognizes the importance of police chiefs being involved

The organization I would like to lead in a cultural change is a non-profit I have been a volunteer at for over a year. In order to respect the privacy of this non-profit, I will refer to them by the name of Timely. In my time spent at Timely, I have noticed lack of diversity in the board members, employees, and volunteers. The non-profit works towards helping those from a diverse background and demographic. Therefore, I have thought for some time that Timely needs to find ways to diversify their organization to reflect those they are reaching out to help.
Memphis, TN is a place full of culture and is known for its delicious food and music. However, Memphis is in demand of many aspects due to natural disasters, poverty, crime, and other reasons. The neighborhood in Memphis that I believe is in need is East Memphis. In East Memphis there are many schools in the area, and where there are schools there are children. This particular area suffers from poverty and crime which puts a strain on the community as a whole. To improve this neighborhood with residents I would provide through community service groups, participate in volunteer work and donations, and also get the community to be involved. Also considering that the community should be a world where everyone has a decent place to live to bring

Numerous companies rented space within the small Callahan Greens office park, all varieties of office work taking place within its three buildings. The smallest of the buildings was leased entirely by Marisol Enterprises, a corporation with fingers in the pies of several different industries. It remained in business by maintaining lots of small holdings, none of which were large enough to be a major player. It occupied a quite comfortable place in American business; large enough that no one questioned its existence, and small enough that no one found it odd that they weren't doing business with them. It was a very convenient setup for a company that didn't actually exist.
The executive director was quite aware of the impact his decisions were making and personally accepted responsibility for this set of unique circumstances. Though, there was no immediate action that could remedy the situation until the end of the fiscal year. Privately, he discussed his personal frustration to me in regard to past decisions that eventually led staff to be unhappy and ultimately hindered the culture. A special session among board of directors and superintendents was called to review the culture assessment results and initiate brainstorming ideas to address issues and concerns. This was a hardship for the executive
John Stuart Mill is a man that has been immortalized by the public as both a genius, and a man before his own time. He has made countless contributions to philosophy, ethics, economics, and politics; he was a man not afraid to speak his mind, often to a candour level that become expected of Mill’s works (Browne 274). This frankness became attached to Mill’s, as he was typically swift and cunning in the disablement of opposing views and logical backing of his own. However, because of this, and his often-debated stances, Mill often faced scrutiny over his beliefs, from authors such as Matthew Browne. His opponents were often quick to say how much it pains them to argue against Mill’s point of view. As Browne said, “ To any one who regards the genius and character of Mr. Mill with such serious homage as the writer of these lines, it is a task of peculiar difficulty, and also a considerable pain, to express, and especially to express in public, strong though qualified dissent from his opinions upon an important question” (Browne 273). However, before we indulge into both the greatness and questioning of Mill’s work it is important to understand how this man came to be.
