Management Style Essay
Introduction
Today’s paper is about management styles. I will discuss things; such as what management is and what are the good and poor qualities of managers. In addition; do these conditions change based on the social environment, work environment or home environment? Last, I will discuss the results of my management quiz. This part of the discussion will focus on whether or not I agree or disagree with those results.

Do the qualities change based on different situations? It is my belief that these qualities do not change. “Leadership roles are all around us, not just in a work environment” (SkillsYouNeed, 2015). “They can be applied to any situation where you are required to take the lead, professionally, socially and at home in family settings” (SkillsYouNeed, 2015). I do not feel that you can just dismiss these qualities whenever you wish. However, I feel that you need to be able to adapt to whatever environment you find yourself.
Do you agree with the results of your management quiz? I agree with the outcome of the exam. Taking the test was an excellent experiment! It allowed me to see whether or not I would make a good manager. According to the results, a managerial position would be in line with my personality. The test result indicated that I had the ability to manage and govern myself. It lets me know; I have the capacity to control and supervise others. As stated before if one can not govern one’s self, it makes no sense attempting to direct others. According to the exam; when it comes to managing my team’s work it states “It sounds like you are getting your staff on the same page about goals and plans to achieve them, delegating well, and ensuring results match what you are looking for” (Management Center, 2015).

Management is the allocation of scarce resources against an organization 's objective, the setting of priorities, the design of work and the achievement of results. Most important, it 's about controlling.
What is management? According to Kinicki Williams textbook “Management, management is defined as the pursuit of organizational goals efficiently and effectively by integrating the work of people through planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the organization resources (Ch. 1, pg. 5 Management: A practical introduction). I believe in order to be an effective manager you must be a positive, goal orient, organized individual. I also believe an effective manager is an individual that motivates their staff and leads by example. I believe all managers should follow the management process.
What is Management? This is in itself is open to debate in various cultures and practices as there are a number of different managers across all areas of life from a shift manager, upper, lower and middle management to a football club manager. To me a manager is an individual who is in charge of a certain group of tasks, or a certain subset of a company. Management is the process of planning and maintaining an organization where individuals, work together efficiently to achieve pre-set objectives (Koontz, 1990).
The Management Assessment profile was extremely helpful to me and how I can move forward in my career as a leader. The assessment covered many topics such as: This profile unveiled some things to me that I was not privy to in the past. One of the things that Tom mentioned during the debrief with me, is that my results are fit for a large organization or a small business. This was great information for me because I can take either approach and make it work for me. Ideally I like working in a large corporation, because there is room for growth. I believe there is also more room for cross training and changing positions if need be. So the tract that we went with as far as how I was scored was that of a small venture. Innovation and the three keys to innovation which are problem solving, process and product development. An important fact surrounding innovation, is having very high problem solving scores. The caution in this would be to have a team with little or no problem solving skills. As far as innovation I scored high for the need to be innovative and being creative. I am driven by being able to provide creative products and services to people, and in return the recognition that is given soothes the need for external recognition. Tolerance for, and ability to assess risk was another topic from the assessment. This is about the ability to assess the risk and the ability to tolerate the consequences of taking chances. Management involves the tactical aspect of day to day functions and who keeps control of the work environment to make sure the organization is moving forward and in the same direction of the company’s vision. Managers are faced with many responsibilities each day, one of which is managing people. The goal of a successful manager is to achieve the highest productivity of the organization by way of the people he/she manages. A manager is more of a problem solver and takes care of work areas relating to people management, time management, decision making etc.
Many people believe they can either be a good or great manager. The actual reality to this is some people are actually not fit to be a manager either because they do not know what to do or because they do not know how to handle themselves. Throughout this paper, management styles will be discussed, and the qualities of a good manager.
Over the past hundred years management has continuously been evolving. There have been a wide range of approaches in how to deal with management or better yet how to improve management functions in our ever changing environment. From as early as 1100 B.C managers have been struggling with the same issues and problems that manager's face today. Modern managers use many of the practices, principles, and techniques developed from earlier concepts and experiences.
In today’s ever changing economy, society’s idea of management is becoming increasingly more difficult to sustain with the continuous demands of the position. A successful manager must have a certain level of expertise and problem solving techniques to carry out the daily tasks required. Over the years, there have been various ideas on what management is, such as planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
Management can also refer to the person or people who perform the act(s) of management.
Management can be defined as the art or act of doing things or activities through the efforts of other people to accomplish desired goals. It deals with the organising and coordination of people, activities, materials, machines and money.
