Effective managers must display many different skills, fill multiple rolls, and fulfill multiple functions. These skills and abilities all work together to allow a manager to be a successful leader. Three skills great managers possess are technical skills, conceptual skills, and human skills (Kinicki & Williams, 2012). In my opinion, I have excellent technical skills, and I have very good human skills, but conceptual skills would be the skill which describes me most effectively.
Conceptual skills are defined as "the ability to think analytically, to visualize an organization as a whole, and understand how the parts work together" (Kinicki & Williams, 2012, p. 30). These conceptual skills allow me to be proactive in my daily functions, and this skill allows me to plan for the future. I work in the automotive industry where every second counts, so reacting to a situation is not acceptable; we must always be prepared for any situation.

Managers should always have a plan, organize their resources, lead the group of people who will execute the plan, and control the results (Kinicki & Williams, 2012). Personally, I allow my group leaders to lead the group activities which allows them to grow into future leaders. Consequently, I control the outcome from afar, while allowing the group to make decisions and decide the best path forward. Controlling is defined as " monitor performance, compare it with goals, and take corrective action as needed" (Kinicki & Williams, 2012, p.15). This function best describes me because I am not afraid to allow others to take the lead, and I step in when we veer off
3.1a An effective manager need to have good communication skills, be able to listen to others and to make decisions based on the information received. As a manager I need to be organised and be able to prioritise my tasks, and have the knowledge of the service, staff and clients to be able to make appropriate choices. . Managers need to be able to think clearly under pressure have good time management skills and remain calm under pressure. Effective leaders opt to implement a specific type of leadership style as a result of their personalities and job experiences, and apply it to their organizational structure. However, that particular type of leadership style a leader utilizes may not apply to every job situation (Peak et al., 2010). In order to be an effective leader, an individual must acquire the three basic leadership skills and they are as follows: (1) human relations; (2) conceptual skills; and (3) technical skills (Haberfeld, 2013). Additionally, a skillful leader must also be proficient in motivating, communicating, and problem solving (Hess & Orthmann, 2012).
According to Williams, 2014, “when companies look for employees who would be good managers, they look for individuals who have technical skills, human skills, conceptual skills and the motivation to manage,” (Williams, p. 14). In watching the “Camp Bow Wow video,” the three broad management skills used are conceptual skills, human skills, and technical skills. From what was stated, the managers at Camp Bow Wow utilized all three of these management skills. Candace and Sue both used conceptual skills in figuring out tough predicaments that were not manageable and then turned them into manageable situations. As well, making sure that the new hires are trained correctly with promoting and mentoring new staff. Both of managers also use human skills. The managers make sure they motivate their employees by communicating with each other.

3) Robert Katz identified three essential skills that managers must have to reach their goals. What are these skills?
Leadership to me is not the matter of control, it is the matter of earning respect and helping the system become stronger. I signed up to be the captain of my high school team because I have been with everyone long enough to know them and for them to know me and I knew how to make our team better as a whole. Soon after, I was voted to be the captain, I was very pleased with the result, but at the same time, feeling anxious. This was the first time I was actually in control of something bigger than myself. I figured out that working alone is not the solution to make my team better, my opinions mattered but could not overshadow everyone else’s. The more I worked with them, the more I found out how inconsiderate I was. I started giving each person a position, each position was responsible for different duty such as strategy, skill drills, athletic development, and manager. I was stunned because prior to that point, I was totally oblivious to the concept of leadership. We made a huge progress and that was when I realized the power of team effort. I was uplifted, individualism is not something to be found in a leader, it is of the essence of a leader to put every piece of a puzzle together to make the perfect picture.
The major managerial skills are technical, human relations, administrative, conceptual, leadership, political and emotional intelligence skills. The Managerial skills which are required by managers working at different levels of management. The top-level managers require more conceptual skills and less technical skills. The lower-level managers require more technical skills and fewer conceptual skills. Human relations skills are required equally by all three levels of management.
Self-Awareness, self-concept and emotional intelligence are effective managerial concepts that will result in leadership success. According to Stanford University, having these soft skills are indispensable traits that good managers should develop to be successful leaders. Managers strive to become aware of who they are, what their values, attitudes, skills, and abilities are. These values drive them to achieve and will eventually result in them become more effective. (Showry & Manasa, 2014, p. 15)
Managerial skills require both education and experience in order to recognize and develop the personal skills needed to put organizational resources to the best use. Conceptual, human, and technical skills create the whole system of managerial control insisting that typically planning and organizing require higher levels of conceptual skills, while leading and controlling require more human and technical skills (Jones & George, 2007).
To create and maintain a healthy organizational culture is a trait of an effective leader. To be an effective leader requires certain skills. I will identify six skills effective leaders have in common. Followership, concern for subordinates, development of others, communication, high standards of performance and loyalty to the organization.
An effective manager possesses good qualities such as sharing a vision, teamwork, communication, passion and compassion towards the business and to the workers. (Source 7)
Managers play an important role in many organizations, they must be able to handle many different situations, and adapt their management style to different situations. The way a manager goes about getting things done and achieving the goals of an organization is known as the management process, also called the four management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (Kinicki, A., & Williams, B. K. 2013, P.9). Many managers possess three main skills; Technical, the ability to get things done; Conceptual, the ability to think analytically; and Human skills, the ability to work well in cooperation with others ((Kinicki, A., & Williams, B. K. 2013, P.22). Using the management process and possessing the technical, conceptual, and
Over the years in my career I have come to learn the different between an effective manager and a non effective manager. With all that I have learned is it possible to live up to whom I want to be. I will also demonstrate how I plan to integrate these skills and techniques into my future as a leader.
Management skills can be sub-divided into numerous skills, the combination of which would lead to efficient management of an organization and faithful development of true management and leadership skills. The chart below provides an overview of these various skills:
As Alan Murray write in his essay “Guide to Management” “The manager’s job is to plan, organize and coordinate. The leader’s job is to inspire and motivate”.
