Interim Healthcare still works in the paper age where customers and employees use carbon copy forms in order to report what activities are completed in each resident’s homes. It is believed that the use of different handheld devices and/ or kiosks could be provided to home health workers in Interim Healthcare. These devices would impact upon the effectiveness of patient care as well as electronic medical records. There is a meaningful need for such technologies to the home office for reporting and strategic management purposes. The IT analytics firm IDC predicts that by 2015 more computer users in the United States will access the Internet through mobile devices such as smartphone and tablets than from traditional computers and hard-wired devices (Home, 2013).
Not only is this a potentially inefficient use of employees and managers time, the use of a non-technological system impacts the ability of management to obtain and interpret critical data elements for patients health and well-being as regular employees performance monitoring and time management. Mobile computing enables the next wave of productivity enhancements.
