In a study of 34 patients aged 75 years or over who depended on assistance for daily living activities, patients were randomly assigned to receive two mandibular implants to support an overdenture or a relined conventional mandibular denture. In the patients who received the mandibular implant overdenture treatment, an increased oral health-related quality of life was reported; however, chewing efficiency was no different between the groups. The insertion of the mandibular implant overdenture was noted as problematic for some patients and their caregivers due to the nature of the Locator attachments, and in two cases the attachments were replaced by attachments that permitted easier insertion . This is an important consideration for

The orthodontic treatments compared were fixed appliance therapy and Invisalign. In the study, one large group was split into two smaller groups. One group wore fixed appliances and the other wore invisalign. For one week, the test subjects kept a journal and answered questions. The questions were used to determine the psychosocial, functional, and pain related to treatment impacts. The diary results for each group of test subjects were averaged. A graph was then made to compare the impacts of fixed appliance therapy and Invisalign. The graphs revealed Invisalign impacts were more “positive” than the impacts fixed orthodontic treatments
Dr. Irfan Atcha is offering an innovative procedure—one that does not involve bone transplants—to end the struggles of chronic denture patients. The procedure, which utilizes Zygomatic dental implants, will provide new teeth to patients who could not wear implant-supported teeth on their upper jaw due to the lack of supportive bone. According to Dr. Atcha, these new alternatives allow him to fabricate either a removable or fixed implant-supported set of teeth.
WookHeo, Dong-SeokNahm, and Seung-HakBaek (2007)32performed study to compare the amount of anchorage loss of the maxillary posterior teeth and amountof retraction of the maxillary anterior teeth between en masse retraction and two-step retraction of the anterior teeth.30 female adult patients with Class I malocclusion and lip protrusion were included in the study. The sample was subdivided into group 1 (en masse retraction) and group 2 (two-step retraction). Lateral cephalograms were taken before (T1) and after treatment (T2). Nine skeletal and 10 anchorage variables were measured, and independent t-test was used for statistical analysis. The amount of horizontal retraction of the maxillary anterior teeth was not different between the two groups, there was mild labial movement of the root apices of the upper incisors in group 2 at T2. No significant difference in the degree of anchorage loss of the maxillary posterior teeth was observed between the two groups. Bodily and mesial movements of the upper molars occurred in both groups. A 4 mm of the retraction of the upper incisal edges resulted from 1 mm of anchorage loss in the upper molars in both groups.
Implant overdentures have contraindications, mainly in relative to the risks related to the surgical procedures, even if in specific cases it can be regarded as a minimally invasive one. Additionally, using this specific treatment concept is limited to cases with reduced prosthetic vertical space that makes it impossible to apply the attachment systems and also provide adequate prosthesis resistance (e.g., using Locators requires a minimum of 8.5mm vertical space and 9mm horizontal space; bar attachments require 10 to12 mm vertical space) .Implant overdentures are not recommended when there is a decreased D4 bone density, in bruxism and in severe oral hygiene deficiency.
absence of retention and stability. Among implant rehabi¬litations, some authors consider overdentures the first treatment option for patients with a completely eden¬tulous mandible , .
For many seniors, the days of George Washington and wooden teeth did not seem like such a far-fetched concept. In fact, dentures and old age were virtually synonymous. Over the last few decades, the number of seniors who do not need to go down the path of tooth loss, dentures, and oral health misery has increased.
We offer implant-secured dentures that will eliminate some of the typical problems people have with dentures. To do this, we place a series of implants in your gums to create a foundation for your dentures. Your dentures are then secured onto the implants using either a bar mechanation or ball attachments, depending on your needs. To learn more about implant-secured dentures, visit our page about
When the interarch distance or the height of the denture is insufficient for insertion of ball attachments, numerous problems may occur, such as over contoured prosthesis, extreme occlusal vertical dimension, fractured teeth proximate to the attachments, separation of attachments from the denture, fracture of the prosthesis, and overall patient dissatisfaction. In these situations, Locator® attachments or micro-head extracoronal resilient attachments (ERA) can be a appropriate alternative to ball attachments because of their low profile58
Influenza over the years has mutated so many different times that it is hard for scientists to keep up with new and updated versions of vaccines to keep people protected. The Flu for some people can cause major complications such as pneumonia and bronchitis because the Flu attacks the respiratory area, but most people who get the Flu will recover in a few days or up to a few weeks. The 1918 Spanish Flu was the worst epidemic that ever hit the world and the contributing factors of the millions of death were that there was no such thing as vaccines or antibiotics to fight off infections. The side effects were so severe that doctors misdiagnosed Influenza as a different infectious disease, and this specific Flu killed more people than the plague.
Many people suppose that orthodontic braces are not more beneficial than clear aligners. Dr. Iman Sandri argues that “One of the benefits of wearing the aligners and removing them to eat allows patients to consume food without limitations. With traditional braces, certain foods can become entangled within the wire structure and make them difficult to clean. With the clear aligner systems, there are no limitations in which foods can be consumed, as long as patients are diligent with their oral hygiene in brushing and flossing after each meal” (par. 3). What this argument fails to consider is that orthodontic braces are more beneficial than clear aligners because they treat complex situations, are easier to maintain, and prevent future dental

Dentofacial orthopedic therapy usually focuses on correcting potential bite and spacial problems by guiding the growth and development of the jaw. We do this by using orthodontic appliances such as mouthguards, space maintainers, retainers, expanders, and other devices.
Capital Punishment, otherwise known as the death penalty, first dates back to the English Colonies in the 1600s. The people of this time adopted this tradition to punish people who had committed crimes of murder, treason, theft, robbery, rape, or other horrible offenses. In 1776, people already began to see the inefficiency of the death penalty. Benjamin Rush, a physician and signer of the Declaration of Independence, stated that “the punishment of murder by death is contrary to reason and to the order and happiness of society.” Rush believed that the death penalty should only be a product of England, and that America should not condone premeditated killing by the government, but rather leave that practice in England.
Towards the end of our reading, Nafisi tells the story of a Russian movie called The Sacrifice being released in theaters. Movies are much like books in the sense that they are an escape from reality. Movies are another form of storytelling, but this time the story is told through cinematic art instead of words on pages. In the 1930s during the Great Depression, films were an outlet. During this time, the people who had the money would buy their movie tickets and go see a movie in order to forget about their current situation. Much like when you read a book, when you watch a movie, you’re submersed into another world, another life and you acquire another character’s problems and emotions and forget your own. There are the kind of movies that helped you escape, then there were the kind of movies that expressed serious issues
