Manifest Destiny is a term used to describe the attitude of people during the 19th century period of American expansion in the United States. It was the idea that the United States not only could, but was destined to, stretch from coast to coast. The term "manifest destiny" was first used by journalist John O'Sullivan in a New York Democratic Review in 1845. In my opinion, I think that O'Sullivan's theory was correct. The United States was supposed to stretch from coast to coast.
