Marble Metamorphic Rock
Marble is a metamorphic rock. Marble is placed among the oldest part of earth crust. Marble is a translucent stone that allows light to enter and produce glow. Marble is non-foliated and uniform in structure. Marble is primarily white in color. Pure marble is composed of mineral calcite. (Nave) It is available in many other colors as well. Impurities in marble give it different colors ranging from white to black. (Nave)These impurities are present at the time of formation of marble. Marble is a beautiful and relative soft stone. Since ancient times marble is part of flooring and statue making. Now a days it is used as building material especially for bath tubs and sink tops. Marble is a very hard rock than its parent rock. This makes polishing marble easier and a useful material for construction. (Metamorphic Rocks)
Marble is made up by the regional metamorphism of dolomite and limestone rock. A lot of pressure applied to the limestone over a very long period of time form marble. High temperature and pressure turns limestone crystal into smaller, finer and harder crystals. Extended duration of metamorphism process grows crystal size larger and becomes easily recognizable interlocking

It is used as building material. For architectural and decorative purposes like trophies, walls, windows, and counter tops marble has significance. White marble is crushed, forming a “whitening powder” that is used as pigment and brightener while filler in paper, paints, and other products. Marble is the best material for sculpture making because of its smoothness and beauty. Marble is also used in agriculture as lime to treat acidity of soil. Marble is widely used in cemetery making. Marble has its presence in poultry industry as well. Powdered marble is added in animal feed supplements to increase calcium
The main objective of this ‘Adopt-A-Rock” project is to analyze and categorize thin section #86 as well as educate the reader about kyanite quartzite and its role on Earth. To identify the #86 thin section: First, using individual mineral characteristics and descriptions under a petrologic microscope, followed by hand sample diagnostics. Metamorphic rocks are significant pieces in the Earth’s geochronology. As they develop from the transformation of existing rock types, in a process called metamorphism, which means, "change in form". Metamorphic rocks are important since they make up a large part of the Earth’s crust. Among these rocks is kyanite quartzite. A perfect example of a contact metamorphic
Jade Stones “nephrite” are a mineral composed of magnesium, iron, and silicate of calcium. Usually, they are formed through extreme heat and pressure known as metamorphism. Surprisingly, it can be found on every continent in the world, including countries like New Zealand, Brazil, China (Sinkiang), Canada, Zimbabwe, and the United State. It can be found in serpentine rock, by mining, alongside riverbanks, and seashores. Due to its composition these stones are shaped and polished before it is used in massage ("Nephrite Jade Gemstone Information", 2014).
The film Captain America is a classic piece of American cinema that was intended to ignite patriotism in the hearts of all who view it. To accomplish this task the director had to make connections between the audience and the hero. The film uses pathos ethos and logos to make this necessary connection. Through these aspects the director is able to show the true character of Captain America and also successfully develop what kind of character he is. Although pa-thos ethos and logos all play a role in the development of the film without an emotional con-nection through pathos the other two would not be nearly as effective.
The Elgin Marbles is the common name for an extensive collection of the Ancient Greek sculpture which has been on display in the British Museum since the early-1800s. The collection includes 75 meters (247 feet) of the original 160-metre (524-foot) frieze from the Parthenon temple in Athens. The frieze is the highly decorative section above the columns in classical Greek architecture. The collection is controversial because of its namesake the seventh Earl of Elgin removed the treasures from Greece with the permission of the Ottomans, who occupied Greece from the mid-15th century until 1821. For decades, the Greeks have called for the priceless artifacts’ return, but the British Museum defends its ownership as legitimate.
The Elgin Marbles are a subject of great debate. Both sides of this great debate have great points that support their argument. I am not sure how I feel about this particular debate. Every time I start to lean towards one side, the other side makes an excellent point.
Minerals can be used for a variety of different things. Without knowing it, they could be in the walls of a house, or there could be minerals in food. Also in Hollywood, Gypsum is used as fake snow(“Other Uses of Gypsum”). Gypsum has different forms like Alabaster, and Satin spar. Having different forms contributes to the reason why it has many different uses. Alabaster is known as a healing rock and is used for meditation. It also is very chalky while Satin spar is known for being very silky (Desy 1). Overall, Gypsum is utilized in everyday life because it can be used for a variety of different things like industrial items and food.
Its smooth surface makes it more difficult for bacteria to thrive, and makes it a cleaner countertop to have in your kitchen. Non-porous as well, you can clean your quartz natural stone countertops without worrying about warping or discoloring them in the process.
They cost 75 dollars per square foot. Quartz is made of silicon and oxygen atoms. On the Mohs scale it is 7 for hardness. The category it is under is oxide mineral. The crystal structure is trigonal. The Chemical formula is SiO2. The luster is vitreous, waxy, dull. The streak color is white. The fracture is conchoidal. Quartz is found in all types of rocks igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. Quartz is resistant to weathering. White sands are the easiest way to find quartz in the sand. There is also some white or pink feldspar as well. Quartz is one of the most common minerals in the earth crust. Quartzs is a constituent of granite and felsic igneous rocks.
An obsidian rock is an igneous rock as well. It forms when molten rock material cools very quickly that atoms are unable to arrange themselves into a crystalline structure. On the Mohs scale, the hardness of an obsidian rock ranges from five to six. An obsidian rock is a basic rock. Basic rocks have around 50% or less silica and a lot of magnesium and iron. Further classification depends on other chemical
Uniqueness: Natural stone comes from the ground and subsequently features natural flaws. Granite is an ideal example of “flawed stone,” as slabs vary in terms of color, pattern, and thickness. When you purchase natural stone counters, you get to enjoy highly-unique countertops. Synthetic stone is made
Marble, stone, iron, reinforced concrete, and wood can bee seen throughout history and across the globe being used as major building materials. Marble can be seen being used in the United States to create a well known national monument, the Washington Monument in Washington D.C. Then marble can be seen being used again in the past when it was used to create the Parthenon, the ancient greek temple dedicated to the goddess Athena. Stone was used in creating one of the seven wonders of the world the Great pyramid of Giza a tomb that would be dedicated to Pharaoh Khufu. Later, during the Ancient Roman times stone would be used again to create the Colosseum that would host fights to the death. Iron can be found in Paris, France both in the prominent Eiffel tower and again in the Sainte-Geneviève Library. As for reinforced concrete that was used as a major material in two quite large projects La Sagrada Familia and the creation of the shells on the Sydney Opera House. Lastly, wood can be recognized in the construction of the ancient Buddhist temple the Horyuji Temple, and again in the Pancho Arena where Soccer is celebrated. Altogether these five major materials have created these renowned works of architecture that maybe otherwise we would not have today without
If you want a high-end look for your new kitchen countertops, you should consider installing granite or marble. They are both natural stones with similar qualities, so you may wonder which one is best. Here's a look at how these countertops are the same and how they differ.
The types of rocks I used are Shale and Gabbro. Shale is a sedimentary rock that is made up of many thin layers. Some Shale rocks have special properties such as black shale rocks contain organic material that sometimes breaks down to form natural gas or oil. Gabbro is a igneous rock that is formed in the crust when magma cools slowly. The colors of Shale are red, brown, green, gray and black. Also Gabbro is usually black or dark green. Both Shale and Gabbro have the same luster which is earthy and dull. The texture of Shale is smooth but a little rough and Gabbro has a coarse grained texture. The hardness of Shale is three on a Mohs Hardness Scale.
By definition, “Marble is limestone containing the mineral calcite that has recrystallized under heat and pressure” (Gani, 2014, p.1). The Romans were the first to construct a building entirely from marble. Later, marble became a widespread stone throughout the empire used for temples, statues, and other large impressive building projects. The material was used for a number of reasons. As well as being extremely durable, the stone is fire and water proof. The Romans made many buildings out of marble because it was able to withstand the elemental forces that it came up against. Because of the durability of the stone, marble buildings still stand in Rome where they were originally built. Although the material is sturdy, it can still be shaped and cut easily which made it a popular choice among sculptors for creating sculptures. The material also polishes well making the buildings and objects that were created from it seem even more important. Depending upon what elements were combined within the formation of the marble, the substance could be colored which also made it valuable when creating art. Mostly white marble was used however, it could be colored yellow, purple, green, and red if desired. Marble was expensive so the stone was mainly kept for the use of columns and imperial projects. Marble was used for a number of purposes in ancient Rome but it is also used for an
The rock from which a metamorphic rock forms is called a protolith. Everything about the protolith changes when it undergoes heat and pressure. (e.g. the crystal structure, their color, and other properties).
