An anonymous person once said, “You have to learn the importance of hard work before you can achieve your dreams.” Every Band leader should know this. Being a member of band is like being a member of a family that is bigger is much more than a normal family. As a band member you are helping your section and peers become better marching band members. Color guard for instance,as Color Guard Caption I would help my fellow members with marching, memorizing routines, and helping them be in time. As a band section leader I believe I can offer a lot. I believe I can offer help writing complex routines and help organize the routine, help organize more group activities, and help make sure every person feels comfortable and safe in the environment they are being exposed to. …show more content…
Last marching season even though our band got a one; one fragment of a comment for guard was, ‘very repetitive.’ As a Captain I will help the Color Guard Coach write the routines to where they are not repetitive. Along with that I hope to be able to help make the moves flow and again not as repetitive as they were last year. Also as Guard Captain I will spend hours outside of school learning new moves to teach the guard. I will also help make sure everyone is on time and with music accordingly. As Captain I will make sure I include more new moves into the routine to make it challenging (but not too challenging), more complex, flows correctly, and isn’t as repetitive. I will make sure we are focused and are doing what we are supposed be doing(so we will be more
The guard revoted and the winning vote was me. All the girls saw me as their savior, and I was not going to let them down. They were my babies and I was going to lead them to success. The girls became confident and felt better having me as a captain. Some qualities that I have that made me be a great captain was being on task. I could slide a few jokes but i'd never get off track. I also never really yelled at them or raise my voice, i'm usually calm and mellow. Which for me was good because whenever they goofed around I would slightly raise my voice and they would all get scared and know I was not messing around. I also did not have a problem with any of them and I got along with all and was their friend, if they ever needed anything. I think the same applies for band because I have no problems with any of the band kids because i'm well known and liked. I also don't let anyone bring me down and I always speak up for myself or for others. I think my personality and characteristics give me an advantage of being in the leadership spot of drum
I help out a lot with our band program and make sure everything is running as smoothly as it can be in that moment. I have people come and ask me for help on music, conducting, and how to set up sectionals pretty frequently. I set up the band room every morning and take attendance and people know that they need to come to me with issues pertaining to that. I also am a librarian for both bands and have helped people, on more than one occasion, get music that they lost or left at home. I am grateful that I have been given the chance to hold these positions because they have given me more confidence and responsibility in our band
During my sophomore year especially, I did my best to be a leader in my definition: dedicated, helpful, and authentic as a person. In our band, I was the leader for the twenty-odd flutes we had in our section. As expected of an officer throughout the marching season, I helped
A leader is someone who puts all their needs aside and puts others first. A leader doesn't think just for themselves, but they have to think about their team. A leader has to put all the drama to the side and has to make their team join together as one. With doing this, their team can be emotionally stronger and better. A leader has to be a role model for the new and rejoining people on the team. If I was the color guard section leader then I would do all of the things I have said plus more. I would work harder not just with myself, but with the team. I would put all the drama and my feelings towards others aside and be a rightful leader to the team. If I have to make difficult choices I will not think about myself, but I will think about the
A marching band is composed of people, playing musical instruments, usually during the halftime portion of a football game, to perform songs arranged by various artists. The band is divided into sections. A section is determined by the instrument one plays. Each section must have a leader. A section leader is one or more people who give rules for other members of the section to follow. While trying to become the best section leader ever, one must develop social skills, a positive attitude, and determination.
We have been in band since the fifth grade and gained a tremendous amount of music knowledge. In the middle school years we sought out more experience by starting a jazz ensemble. After middle school, We joined all aspects of band and participated in every event possible. Through our three years of marching experience we led the our respective sections. We focused on making sure our rows and lines were straight. Keeping in step was also a very important
Many people believe marching band is not a sport because it involves people playing music. Since people are playing music, they think it is more of an art than a sport. It is true that we people in a marching band are playing music, but there is a lot more that they do besides playing music. I have so far participated in marching band for six years, five in middle school and high school and one year in college. Even though not all marching bands compete, it should still be considered a sport for the ones that do.
In the two years I've spent in high school band, I've learned that the best leaders are the ones who do whatever needed to help the whole band succeed. Whether that be arriving at 6 in the morning to help your section with marching and music, or just spending time with them at football games and section parties. A great leader is someone who knows not only their own strengths and weaknesses, but the organization's as well. The best leaders can also fully differentiate when it is time to work and when it is time to have fun.
During Senior year’s marching season, I was given two leadership positions. Section leader of the french horn section as well as Hornline Captain for the whole entire wind ensemble. I had many responsibilities and obligations to fill with both positions. With time, patience, and much failure I was able to rise to the challenge.
While participating in marching band, I have also gained many new experiences, friendships, principles, and musician skills. Deciphering music can be a challenge year to year, and each year the music has continued to expand my capabilities as a musician. Apart from the musical component, marching band has taught me true meaning of teamwork to achieve a common goal. Specifically during the last marching season, I learned the importance of
Lastly, being in band has made a great impact in my life because, I love it, I love music, and I enjoy being in something bigger than myself. I love the feel when each individual comes together to be part of something bigger than oneself. My main example would be marching band, due to all the individuals that it takes to make an entire show. Over two hundred and fifty individuals are asked to do various of tasks but at the end it is all worth it because, after every show or performance each individual will put all they have onto that field. Not only do I enjoy being in something bigger than myself but I also have a passion for music. Ever since I was little I was always interested in music and I wanted to play an instrument so when I got into
"When you're out there partying, horsing around, someone out there at the same time is working hard. Someone is getting smarter and someone is winning" by Evan killham. I enjoy this quote because it teaches me how to use my time wisely, and to work hard in everything I do.
I would like to start by saying I would like to say that being the drum major for our marching band would be an absolute honor. Being Drum Major is one of the most important jobs during this wonderful season and would need to be under great care - which I think I’m capable of. This position is one that I’ve cared about since I first stepped out onto the marching field. I’ve always been inspired to be a leader and to endure the heavy, yet rewarding responsibility. So, what leadership would I bring to the field if I were selected as Drum Major? If I were selected, I would lead by setting an example, yet staying humble, and charismatic.
When I joined marching band in my freshman year of high school, I felt nervous and reluctant about joining because I questioned my abilities. However, I decided to commit myself to it so that I would know if it was something meant for me to pursue in the future. On the first day, I was overwhelmed with the many people who I did not recognize, and I started to feel as if I should never have come. Things began to change for me when I met an upperclassman named Sophie, who was my flute section leader. She was kind to everyone and did not get upset if anyone made a mistake in the music or marching technique, but rather, she gave constructive criticism. Sophie was an amazing leader and musician, and she was, and still is, a role model to me. Without
When it comes to family, most people automatically think about relatives, siblings, or parents. Yes they are my family however I am talking about my guard family. I have been apart of the Marching bands color guard for five years. I am actually the oldest, in experience wise, in the group. The colorguard consist of all girls and one male. Because i have been with the guard for so long they all come to me for help and advice. They all call me the Grandma of the group. The are my family, they are my children. I work with them everyday, talk to them, and we just have so much to relate. However, like siblings, we all get annoyed with each other at some point. Even at that point we still love each other over the limit.
