Marine biology takes determination, an adventurous mind, and a love for the ocean and the animals that live in it. Marine biologists study the behaviors and habitats of marine life in oceans all over the world. Being a marine biologist may be difficult for people with a phobia of the ocean or dangerous animals that live in it, but with the right education and love for the ocean and marine animals, marine biology is a fascinating and adventurous job for someone with a passion for the ocean. The key to being successful in marine biology is someone who has determination, intelligence of the ocean and animals, and a passion for discovering more about the ocean. The profession of marine biology requires a strong background of science-related courses. …show more content…
For example, traveling to different oceans all around the world is hard because they have to leave their family for long periods of time. Marine biologists who are also parents may miss several "important events" in their children's lives because the job is on the other side of the world. "Problems often encountered as a marine biologist include sick/deadly animals, challenging schedules, and pay" (Ryan Czaja, Personal Communication, January 22, 2016). A positive aspect of marine biology is discovering new facts and information about oceans and marine animals. “This job has taken me to many different places (Australia, Hawaii, Curacao, Costa Rica, Mexico, Europe, Bahamas, etc.) I’ve been able to dive on the most beautiful coral reefs in the world” (Ryan Czaja, Personal Communication, January 22, 2016). Marine Biology is a significant factor to the benefits of society. “There is a whole world on a living reef, and it’s elaborate and bustling like a busy city beneath the waves, just waiting to be explored” (Gruber). “Everything is connect via ocean and if you alter that or take that away, the domino effect on the rest of the world is extremely significant” (Ryan Czaja, Personal Communication, January 22, 2016). Marine biology is overall a difficult yet adventurous profession that is a daring and
When I was young I was so interested in marine life and how the world under water was so different from ours. It wasn't until I visited Mote Marine when I was exacerbated by the abundance of reef fish species, the beauty of coral reefs, and Mote Marine’s numerous research programs. This is when I knew that I wanted to get involved. I believe this internship will get me one step closer to following my dreams and educate me further on the vast ocean.
The dream of having majored in marine biology is one thing, but to get to have a marine biology degree is a fifth grader’s dream come true. The environment is heading in a rough direction. For example, ocean acidification is already a problem. The decrease in pH of our ocean acidity is causing coral reefs to die out—which houses thousands of organisms’ homes and food sources. Due to the contaminants, we release into the natural environment, we are slowly losing ecosystems every day. Therefore, I want to be the researcher to help save the oceanic life from these horrible conditions. Also, the career of marine biology can take a person anywhere, from the coasts of the Bahamas all the way to the depths of the Arctic Ocean. This provides the advantage
At SeaWorld millions of students have the chance to learn and see the animals up close. Students are able take field trips to visit those places and learn all about the interesting facts about the sea animals. The Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums released a poll that had 93% of people said they are now inspired to take conservation after the zoological parks taught them. Imagine how great and how many lives would be saved if people took more action to help save sea animals. When sea animals are held in captivity, they help contribute to education for
Hello, I’m a student from Vaughn International Studies Academy. We have been given the opportunity to be a part of a job shadowing project in our school for us to know what we want to be in the future. For me it will be an amazing opportunity to job shadow a marine biologist at the aquarium of the pacific because it can prepare us for the future.Doing this project will inspire me to know what I will want to do once I get older, so when I go to college and then get a job as a marine biologist. I would want to see what exactly marine biologist do and what is required to go into this particular field. According to the aquarium's website, the marine biologist there, study and take care of the animals in the exhibits in which I would like to do
Marine Biology is a fascinating field to learn about, but to make a career in it you should consider three things: the job itself, requirements, and why you may be interested in this career. Many of these Questions can be answered by simply studying the career further and talking to a person who has a Marine biology vocation. But as we dive into the field and its unique qualities we must be aware to look at all the facts.
Blue oceans and champagne colored sand and don’t forget the lovely sea creatures but some of them ever so frightening. All of these things are what a Marine Biologist works with and they do many more studies having to do with this kind of things. What it takes to be a Marine Biologist is a Bachelor's degree or higher and you also need to like what you are doing,be good at math, science, reading, making surveys and graphs and so on.
After many family vacations to the beach, where I experienced the ocean first-hand and most recently, a summer camp through MOTE Aquarium, I now have a new goal, which is to become a marine biologist. The majesty of the ocean, the ocean life, and the ecosystem are something that I have always been intrigued by and now plan to make it a career. I realize that becoming a marine biologist is not going to be an easy task to accomplish, but I am prepared for the hard work and dedication it will take to reach my long-term goals. I am excited about not only the classroom portion of marine biology, but equally excited to get in the field and experience hands-on learning and research.
In conclusion marine life is very diverse and strange. They have stunning beauty and amazing defensive mechanisms. They have been around for millions of years but haven’t looked like they do since about 1 million years ago. Marine life has adapted to live in very shallow water or very deep water. Marine life has fascinated humanity for hundreds of
“A perfect world is where there is no capturing and killing, but more rescuing and saving”(Pinterest). Marine biologists explore the ocean floor and discover new environments under water. Killing and capturing animals is something that occurs on a daily basis, but with people such as marine biologists, the world can save endangered species. Marine Biologists need an ample amount of degrees and years of school to be successful. As a result, they will go exceptionally far in this career. While they do not make as much as a doctor or lawyer, it is a very rewarding career because they have a hand on approach of saving lives under the sea. They need to undergo certain qualities to be a good marine biologist. Being good at
The job of a Marine Biologist is a very unique job that dives deep into the study of ocean life. This paper will go into detail about the general duties of the job, one's aptitude towards the job itself, and special qualifications and requirements needs to succeed in this workplace. The duties of marine biologists vary depending on who you work for, for instance say you work for a company that wants to dive to the bottom of the deepest part of the ocean that is currently known to man. A marine biologist can be tasked with helping build and deploy whatever tools that will be needed for said expedition.
After reading “Walking on Water” by Derrick Jenson, I became more aware of my life, in the sense that I need to take advantage of the remaining time I have left on earth doing something that I not only love, but is helpful to people surrounding me and our environment. With this new found inspiration, I feel that my “good work” can be found in data analysis with in marine biology. Many people today are so focused on the problems of today’s atmosphere and global warming that no one is paying attention to the problems arising in the oceans. Oceans are becoming too high in acidification and marine life is beginning to plummet. Given this information, I can apply my skills of creativity, ambition, persistence, and ocean/ earth systems knowledge.
I would turn on the National Geographic channel during my favorite week of the year, Shark Week, and see monstrous beasts roaming the seas. My interest in sharks was the foundation of my fascination with the ocean and marine life. As I was researching chemistry careers, I came across one occupation that involved chemistry and studying oceans, chemical oceanography. There was a picture on a website for chemical oceanography of a few people conducting research on a boat in the Atlantic Ocean. This immediately brought back a childhood memory of being on a small boat off the coast of Chatham, Massachusetts one late August and seeing what appeared to be the fin of a great white shark. After this flashback, I knew this would be a great career to write about. When I was looking at chemistry careers, it looked very interesting compared to other careers because it is so important in today’s world to protect our environment and ecosystem. On the other hand, after completing my research, I feel this career is not the best fit for me because of the fact that you spend most of your days researching and discovering in labs than being outside in and around the oceans. If you have an interest in protecting our oceans and marine life while also having the ability to communicate ideas clearly, analyze data, and apply theoretical concepts to large amounts of information, then you may want to pursue a career as a chemical
If you are interested in adventuring the depths of the ocean, being a marine biologist is the job for you. As a marine biologist you will need to have several years of schooling in order to have a successful career. Being a marine biologist can be an enjoyable and dangerous job, but the journey is worth the ride.
The fact that the marine environment harbors such an extraordinarily diverse range of life begs the
