I am Mark Inouye, a junior in Konawaena High School. At the very core of my intent in wanting to attend this class is simply the emotion of success. I have always longed to stand at the pinnacle of academic and overall success with my peers. The feeling of academic success is one that drives me to continue to do better, and better. It's comparable to continuing a combo in a video game, “I got this far, let's see how much more I can go!” This is the mentality I receive in my process.
I hope to upgrade my English skill set, which I myself have noticed a steady improvement on since entering high school, and maturity in terms of my responsibility, and management of school objectives (which I thought to improve last year :p) The things that I just covered were those that I hope to improve on myself, this class of course is an AP class, and knowing that, I anticipate to improve the look of my academic profile through the grades I will thrive to receive in class in addition to the AP test which I will face at the end of the year. Enough with my boring academic rant though. One of the things I’m going to try my hardest at is to make class enjoyable

These will be a product of my procrastination combined with the work that will be a part of the curriculum. I often tell myself “I still have time left” sometimes at the last minute! I find what I do completely insane, yet I still do it. A product of the work that I’ll find myself in is stress, I can feel it already. The stress me and my classmates will feel is one of the challenges I expect to face as a part of being in a good friendly mood. The morning grumps is going to be a test that all of us will learn to persevere. One way I’m going to attempt to stop my worries at the root of the problem, is managing my procrastination. I’m not yet sure how I’m going to do it, but for the sake of everybody around me, I am going to
I worked just as hard, yet my test results were notably underwhelming in comparison to my ‘top 10’ classmates. What was different about me, I thought every night before I fell asleep. Then I realized, I was alone in my cherishment of extracurricular activities. While my classmates were up late Friday nights studying, I was cheering on the sidelines, exerting myself to pep up the crowd via backflips. When others were reading ahead, I was helping to feed outlying communities. While the ‘top 10’ was still cramming, I was at a Wednesday worship program. I’m committed to giving my complete impetus to everything I take part in, and sometimes, your best isn’t enough for what you want and there is almost nothing you can do about it. This taught me that in order to be truly fulfilled, you need to accept failure as part of your life and learn to move on. Thinking about it, I would not be happier if I quit doing the things I love to study more so that I could be in the ‘top 10’. In fact, I would most definitely be more miserable. Learning to accept failure, I have decided to cultivate my energy into simply giving my all and to welcome whatever rank, or not, I receive with open
Daniel Inouye (井上 建): Daniel Inouye, or Ken in Japanese, was 17 when Japan first attacked the naval base near Pearl Harbor. As a medical aid, he was the first to treat the wounded. Though Japanese Americans on the mainland were being interned by the U.S. government as a potential security risks, Daniel Inouye and his equals were eager to serve their country. Inoue would later be a United States Senator from Hawai'i and is the highest-ranking Asian American politician in U.S. history.
The three textile pieces I choose were from the select pieces David Adjaye thought were well made and designed with intricate details. His entire collection displayed multiple african cultures throughout pervious centuries. The first textile I found interesting was the Pelete Bite Wrapper. This textile is from the 1930’s and it is produced from a woven plain weave thread work. This particular textile was made from indian cotton that was woven with stripes and plaid or checks. From there women would pull threads with a needle to have only the light and bright threads left. The process would leave a geometric design and checked ground woven fabric. This fabric had two different geometric designs that offer two different tones of dark blue.
As a transfer student at Texas A&M, I demonstrate what determination and hard work stands for through staying self-motivated to attend my dream school. Prior to the start of my education, my family and I moved to this country in hopes of escaping crime and violence, seeking opportunities and freedom. I was able to undertake my own opportunities and enrolled at a community college while also working a full time job in an effort to pursue my dream of attending Mays Business School. Every year, thousands of students apply to Mays; however, Texas A&M only accepts 100 candidates to attend their business school. Because of this transfer process, I have become a motivated, persistent and dynamic individual who strives for success.
Every student is different, from how they learn to how much effort do they put in when studying. But with the right teacher guiding them to success, nothing is impossible. So, how do we motivate the future generation to succeed in school? The Perils and Promise of Praise, by Carole S. Dweck. The author focus on how to motivate students to succeed in school. From how you talk to them, motivate them to learn and rewarding them.
Standing on the stage, Washington provides uplifting words as these students move on to greater things. He uses words such as “dream”, “aspire” and “success” (Washington), to provide motivation
Coming into this new chapter of my life (school) with more maturity, and a positive attitude, I am hoping this class will act as a refresher and teach me a few new things too. As much as I hate to say it, I think a crash course in grammar/writing will be very beneficial. It will ensure I am on track and up to par with the writing standards of the college. I am particularly
Being a student is not always easy. Most of the time students think they may succeed by an easy instructor or simply choosing an easy course just to get a good grade. I always lived with the mind set of overcoming my challenges, whatever it may take, easy or hard, I have to try and succeed. Going into depth about being a student and discussing the following: demonstration of my attitude and the environment of the classroom, attendance and punctuality, and supporting a positive learning environment.
With vivid images of failure in my mind, I pushed myself harder than ever before with one goal in mind: to be the best that I could be. Driven not by a fear of failure, but of not being able to make the most out of my life, I was able to achieve both first rate grades and personal pride in my work. Without my resolution to succeed, I would never have stepped outside my comfort zone and gained both the knowledge and experience that accompanies.
Soon, I discovered a method to avoid the potential of feeling insubstantial, if only for a few more hours or days. Thus, allow me to introduce you to an old friend, procrastination. My way of thinking soon became, “If I’m not going to get an A, then why even put the effort in?” and consequently, innumerable assignments were put off until five in the morning where it would be due in two hours or it would never reach my teacher’s hands at all. I’m sure most teachers believed the cause to be laziness or a lack of ambition, however I strongly believe that if they’d known the constant stress, self-doubt, and exhaustion that I
Over the course of time, I have learned that learning is essential if you want to be successful. Whether it is about life skills or school, learning is a habit that everyone uses in a way to become successful. One of my main goals is to obtain the most out of college so that I can input what I learn in school in the outside world. Meaning that I want to learn as much as I possibly can in any course, especially in this course. I expected this course to be a review of my English class during my senior year of high school, but I extended on what I had previously learned about English. As this semester of ENG 111 ends, I can say that I have improved skills that involve grammar, structuring a paragraph with supporting details, and opening my
There are several qualities to have to be successful in college. These qualities can range from attending class to going above and beyond what’s expected. Success comes from the journey taken or the path chosen. Success also comes from being prepared. As a student, I must step up to the challenge and find the path to success along the way. Several ways I define success is to uphold academic integrity, have the ability to prioritize, and to motivate myself to stay on top of what needs to be accomplished.
In 2 years of my ASU life, I mostly focused on the academic success. As an international student, the academic success was a challenging part. At the first time, I experienced many difficulties, such as the language barrier, a lack of knowledge, etc. However, I did not give up. I worked hard to overcome my difficulties, and when I needed, I actively asked for help to professors, advisors, and other students. I made many friends and great relationships here. As a result, I think all my hard work paid off through my grades. I am currently keeping my 4.0 cumulative GPA. This was just not a numbered grade for me. I’ve got the confidence that I can have the successful achievement if I do my best. This was biggest accomplishment what I accomplished
Students learn best when they are confident, motivated, and engaged in their learning activities, not when they are pressured by standardized test scores, gpa’s, and extracurriculars.
To begin with, I believe if you put your mind into something, you can do anything. Growing up, my family has always had high expectations for me and I've always felt very determined despite the pressure. Last year, I had to take the class precalculus which to some people it may come as a very easy or hard thing to take. It was a very new type of class, and honestly I was taken out of my study comfort zone because it did require a large amount of hours and work. I would sacrifice so much time such as socializing with my friends and family, to be the best I could possibly be, and I learned so many study habits I did not have before the class. I consider taking the class, success as a learner because it was a very impacting and eye opening experience that will come very useful to me in the future.
