As my ninth-grade English teacher, Mrs. Newton would say, without a good hook to start your essay, no one will ever read it. As I was taught, a hook is a crucial part in your essay because it will help grab the audience’s attention so that they will continue to be invested throughout the paper. For example, the hook could be a question or a quote about the overall topic of your essay. In my junior year, we had to do a controversial essay and I used a quote from a famous tattoo artist as my hook because I did my essay over tattoos and piercings. After the hook, the introduction begins to take form and show the audience what your essay is about. The introduction is the first thing in your essay that will tell the audience what the essay is about. The introduction paragraph should be as interesting as the initial hook and keep the audience invested in the paper. It will establish the basis of the essay and should contain the thesis statement. The thesis statement is the point in your essay where you will state the topics that the essay will contain. In high school, we were taught that the thesis should contain the three points that you will elaborate upon in your three body paragraphs: the weakest point, the middle point, and the strongest point.
The first step in your writing process is to just sit and think. If your essay is on an assigned topic, sit and think about what approach you will have to the subject, if it’s possible to take a position on it. If you are allowed to decide on the topic, you can take it in any direction and decide on a purpose. This purpose can be to tell someone how to do something, present information you have collected on your favorite subject, or even entertain the audience who will be reading it. Once who have brainstormed some ideas, examine each

A well written essay must consist of many different writing elements in order bring together a strong, and well organized structure, to the essay. Each paper must be well thought out, that consists of an introduction, has body paragraphs that supports each claim, and ends with a conclusion. Even though all of these parts of the essay are critical to the essays writing process, yet the most significant part of the essay is the thesis statement because it sets up the initial structure of the paper; therefore, the thesis creates the main claim of the essay which is followed by two reasons of why that claim is true, by setting up the thesis this way the writer then has the material to construct well organized body paragraphs and conclusion.
Essay writing is one of the basic skills needed to have when attending school. No matter how a student tries to reduce the amount of writing needed for an essay, they will have to master the method for your assignment. The writer could use an essay to either inform, persuade, or entertain the audience but if their essay is boring and dry the writer will not get the audience’s attention. The content should have a specific objective to reach a particular audience. When writing a good essay, everyone has a different opinion on the technics needed for the essay to be entertaining.
Body paragraphs should have a first sentence that is a level one sentence backing up the thesis with key terms and they should also show transition. Then the first sentence should be followed by support and explanation in higher level or detailed sentences. A sheet was handed out with the proper essay framework and structure. It’s a visual checklist that provides a repeatable pattern for presenting information in an expository essay. Writing the story in the introduction allows for a proper setup that allows the writer to explain in the body and conclude in the
The introduction of an essay is often the most complex part of an essay. The story I will work on is “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, I choose this story because of the tragedy moments, and a family vacation that turns upside down. To begin my essay, I want to start a body paragraph with four components: the main idea, evidence, analysis, and a link to the thesis. To start off, I want to introduce the family, the misfits, and a proper thesis statement. Then transition to my first body paragraph with a main idea that relates to my thesis. Next, I will include quotes from the text as a primary source, and quotes from the secondary source by using the library database as evidence from the text. Third, the paragraph will be analyzed, and the main idea explained. As for the final component, I will make the last sentence
For each body paragraph you must follow the “T.S Leatleac formula” handout, with a topic sentence that provides direction, the 2 best supporting quotes from the novel to prove each topic sentence, and an effective wrap up sentence that transitions into the next paragraph. For each of your example you must show analysis and explain how your example proves your topic sentence. Then you write your introduction that hooks the reader by providing a quote and how it relates to your essay, while using a transition word. Then you summarize the novel in 3 sentences, including main characters and what they are trying to accomplish. And one sentence telling reader what your essay is going to prove; the three points you will make in your essay. After writing the introduction you write the conclusion. However, do not spend too much time brainstorming; rather use only 5-10 minutes of your half an hour. Next write a brief outline. An outline is very important in an essay since it allows you to visualize the flow of your paper and retain your main thoughts out deviation. Since you are working with only half an hour, an outlined does not need to be very detailed; just list the introduction, your main topics, and your conclusion.
