Mars has been an interesting planet to mankind for years now, and scientists have decided to take things into their own hands. They are making plans to put people on Mars to have them live there. Consequently, they would need to face many problems during the period of time preparing for the journey to mars. One of the many problems they would have to face, for example, is: How will they get food, water, or air? Well, you’re about to find out. In Jennifer L Holm’s fictional story, “Follow the Water”, she uses facts about Mars to help you imagine some of the problems characters would have to face, and how they would be able to fix them in reality.

Joshua Pratt is the first known Constable from the American colonies, serving Plymouth colony in 1634. His duties included arresting criminals, collecting taxes, and serving papers. Constables died out in the 1760’s as the Sons of Liberty began to riot and destroy property the Constables were either overwhelmed by the number of protesters or were rioting themselves to end Britians rule.

The main character in this book was Mark Watney, who was left behind on Mars. He was presumed dead after a dust storm. Culture involves many different aspects in our society. The Martian is arguably one of my favorite books because of the fantastic tone and character development. The Martian follows Mark Watney, a scientist who majored in botany and mechanical science. He get stranded on mars after a dust storm knocks out communications with NASA and the rest of his crew leaves when they believe he is dead from shrapnel in the storm.

The beginning of this book starts with Mark Watney a mechanical engineer and botanist describing his current situation, how mars missions work and how he managed to get into his predicament of being stranded on mars alone. For some of the basics, he is on Aries 3 the third mission that has sent humans to mars. All of the use a really big ship to get there and back and by the time they get to mars 13 pre supply missions will have sent everything they will need onto the Martian ground.

Admittedly as an outdoorsman, it is hard to distance myself emotionally or sentimentally from any hypothetical scenario of being able to invest in Cabela’s. I will also admit that I am not overly concerned with the SEC investigation, as many similar investigations were launched during the current political administration into conservative business organizations. Cabela’s is also bringing in new leadership, as they recently announced in February of this year with an 8-K form filing (Economics Week, 2016) that Scott Williams has been appointed as president of the organization. Mr. Williams has previous experience with Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club, as well as Fanatics (Castner, 2016), so his experience should bring a fresh look for Cabela’s oversized

Mark plants potatoes and figures out how to propagate his crop so it will multiply. Defeating all the odds Mark ends up surviving and getting rescued by NASA. We as humans have been studying the planet Mars for decades now. NASA has concluded that humans cannot live on mars.

There were multiple obstacles that the main character, Mark Watney, had to overcome to reach a final resolution which was getting off Mars. I'm going to focus on one of his final struggles: him having to get to the MAV. His struggle of getting to the MAV started with getting his supplies together and rover to have maximum power to drive so he could get farther as fast as possible. He defeated his struggle by realizing that he only had to use 1/6 of the power because there were originally 6 crew-mates but since he was left on Mars alone he didn't have to use all that power. " The spec says it draws 44.1 pirate-ninjas[kilowatt-hours per sol], but this time it's only been using 7.35 because of the reduced load[other passengers].

There are many times that Weir puts Watney in a situation that will certainly be the end for him, but he somehow finds an ingenious way to escape, which is excellent.To go along with Mark Watney, Weir creates many side characters that help Mark along the way. Aside from Watney, my favorite character is Mitch Henderson the flight Director for NASA. His job is to make sure the ccrew gets home safe, but also in the book he is the catalyst for brininging Watney home. His “I don’t care what you say” attitude shows up whenever he directly disobeys NASA’s orders for not telling the crew of Hermes 3, the people who left MArk behind, of a course maneuver that will send the Hermes back to Mars to save Mark. Along with Henderson some other characters are Venkat Kapoor who is the director of the Ares program. He doesn't like big speeches in fact, he refuses "to make a speech" about Mark because "nice words ... wouldn't bring him back" (5). Venkat is constantly trying to figure out what Watney is doing

Mark Watney, Ares 3’s botanist, is left behind on Mars after his crew thought he was dead. Watney will have to survive on Mars until help arrives. Watney first calculates that he needs more food even though he is rationing his food. He decides to grow the raw potatoes that were originally for Thanksgiving. He first gets the dirt, and turns Martian soil into fertile dirt by populating the soil with bacteria. Then, he plants the potatoes. That way he can have more food. He is also making water out of hydrazine, which comes from leftover rocket fuel. On earth, satellite images show that Watney is still alive, and they start to find to help him. Watney then sets out on a journey to find Pathfinder, a Martian rover that lost communication with Earth

Although being stuck on Mars seems like a far-fetched idea to most of us, that is exactly what happened to Mark Watney in Andy Weir’s latest science fiction novel, The Martian. Six days after he arrived on the planet on a scheduled NASA mission, the crew experiences a catastrophic dust storm and leave the planet headed towards Earth. One kind of very big problem, they leave him behind. The novel discusses about his survival on Mars for years until a controversial decision by his crew may allow him to be saved. This book will keep on the edge of your seat and we keep you begging for more.

“Six days into what should be the greatest two months of my life, and it’s turned into a nightmare” (Weir 1). The first scene of Andy Weir’s The Martian is fraught with tension, which is aptly summarized by its fourth sentence above (the three that precede it are sadly less than school-appropriate). Built up by the in media res opening, the ample indirect characterization, and the diary (or in this case log) format, Weir’s entry for Sol 6 provides information on the plot, subject, and therefore theme of the novel. Based on Watney’s practical resilience, his clear, humorous view of his situation, and the suspense of the day, much of the novel’s content can be predicted. Through these 3 things, Weir brings up the theme that persistence and a sense of humor can make a difference between life and death in times of crisis.

They say that the book is always better than the movie, well the movie version of The Martian by Andy Weir received an abundance of four and five star ratings. It may be hard to believe, but the book is even better than the movie. Most of the book takes place on the surface of Mars,and partially of earth, from the point of view of NASA scientists. The premise of the novel is about an astronaut who is stranded on Mars named Mark Watney. During a storm, all of the astronauts on Mars evacuated, during the evacuation, Mark was struck with an object and presumed dead.

    The Martian Chronicles is a collection of short stories by Ray Bradbury These stories all relate to the idea of humans visiting mars, but are only connected by the loosest of threads. At times, it can appear as if Bradbury was grasping mercilessly, searching for something to draw together the random conglomeration of human situations his mind had created individually. The entity that embraced all these stories and melded them from half-hour kiddy-show format stories into a great two-hour special feature novel was the forth planet from the sun, earth's neighbor and Bradbury's stage for The Martian Chronicles, mars.

She also discusses the reasons that a planet like Mars is considered such an ideal planet for supporting life. For my research, Perkowitz text is significant because it describes the many issues that Weir’s The Martian and its film version do not discuss. Where The Martian focuses on human’s colonization on Mars, many films before have focused on alien life on Mars. This helps to shed light on the possible reasons that Weir choose to title his novel and its film adaptation what he did.
