Advertising and Selling is only part of the whole marketing process. There are many definitions used to describe marketing. One of the most commonly accepted definitions of marketing today comes from the American Marketing Association: "Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large" (ama, 2015). In other words, it is a total system of interacting activities designed to plan, price, promote, and distribute products to present and potential customers. Each function within an organization has a decidedly unique view of forecasting and planning. It is very important for your organization’s success that all employees do support of marketing functions within the organization. Sales and Marketing would be more willing to cooperate if they understand how their support will help them as well. It will help in eliminating or reducing the potential preconception in forecasts provided by Marketing within the organization (Lawless,2013). Marketing Function: Sometimes Sales and Marketing are combined within the same functional area of the company, and in other cases, maintained as separate functions. You may have been affiliated with, or consulted with companies that have done both.
