So a post that is doing well could end up going viral. This will help you avoid the “hard sell” and instead be “discovered” in a way that can naturally and easily convert to customers. It starts with connections that build into relationships. These in turn lead to more connections and more relationships. Isn’t that what networking is all about?
Besides expanding your audience, you can use LinkedIn to target your audience, as well as to help narrow down the pool of candidates for direct marketing or “warm calling”, this is where you first look up what connections you might have with the person you intend to call. This is where having clearly defined and easily recognizable branding can make a huge difference. Which is something that LinkedIn excels at getting across, since that is basically what the profiles come down to: personal branding (or corporate, as the case may be). Custom URLs help with this, as do the sponsored updates, where companies can push their post to the front of the line for a customizable list of viewers (like people with certain job titles, from certain companies, with certain skills, or who belong to certain groups).

LinkedIn is a rather new social network with room for growth and improvement in many ways. As the company grows, the more likely uses and enhancements will continue to grow as well. First, adding a geographical map to show people close to you who use LinkedIn would come in handy when trying to network with people in your area. Secondly, adding video conferencing would be ideal for companies who would like to use LinkedIn as a way to communicate to their current employees similar to GoToMeeting. Thirdly, trending topics and news feed following changes within your industry and circle of interests would benefit users that would like to stay updated.
There are obvious strengths behind LinkedIn that have made it one of the hottest social professional networking sites/applications around. Aside from being founded and ran by some of the great professionals like Mr. Reid Hoffman and Jeff Reiner (former Yahoo! Executive), LinkedIn has a user-friendly interface and simple but effective designing. It doubles as a career website as well as a social media website, which separates it from a lot of other websites. As mentioned earlier, LinkedIn allows companies to promote products and services on their website, creating more revenue and business opportunities for both sides. The website also complies with Web 2.0, which allows everything on the site run very smooth and efficient. Its’ mobile application takes part in the growing mobility of social media in smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices, creating new ways for people and businesses to connect with one another.

Prior to this assignment I had heard about LinkedIn many times but for some reason never created a profile. However, after being required to create a LinkedIn account I now realize the vast potential that it has to offer. For starters, it is one of the fastest growing social media platforms in the world. “LinkedIn’s global network adds approximately one new member every second” (Eyres, 2009). Secondly, it provides people the opportunity to network with professionals who may work in the same field as you or people who have similar skills. Your profile can be viewed by virtually anyone, which would be impossible to do with a traditional hardcopy resume. For example, one person who viewed my profile works as a marketer in Ottawa, Canada.
LinkedIn is a website specifically established for the professionals all around the world to network. The website allows people to search for business contacts, manage their professional identity, research firms, join industry groups and identify desired career opportunities. This website is also being leveraged by the brands and recruiters and many corporate profiles have been established on LinkedIn to recruit candidates and develop a pool of potential candidates through networking (Lewis, 2012).
Facebook is the largest of the social networks, with more than 500 million active users. It has become a favorite destination for people, businesses, and organizations to connect and share information because of its easy-to-use interface and interactive features. Facebook is the most multimedia-friendly of the big three networks as members can post text, pictures, audio, and video, and can share their location too.
It also gives businesses free advertising and publicity through updates, creation of Fan Pages and applications. Facebook also allows users to keep track of events, join groups, network with people and buy things among the few. Facebook differs by the amount of information other users can view as well as the large amount of applications assessable through the company but is not allowed in China. Facebook is more for social networking while LinkedIn is geared more towards professional networking. Facebook allows users create lists of professional friends so that they can get information to specific people. Both LinkedIn and Facebook can be used to job hunt.

Websites such as Facebook makes communication with others an easy task. Facebook improved commucnication and even made communication a better experience. The site has over 313 million members, including more than 200 countries and various executives from every Fortune 500 Company. In 2002, Hoffman recruited a team of colleagues from SocialNet and PayPal to work and launch the new form of professional connection. Slow sign-up growth gained attention but investments, promotions and partnerships from Sequoia Capital and American Express helped the company establish financial peace. Over the years, the company has gained revenue from talent solutions, marketing solutions, and premium subscription products. In 2006, LinkedIn launched public profiles and core features such as “Recommendations” and “People You May Know” to supplement the site. LinkedIn has become a global company; opening its first international office in London and launching twenty-three language versions of the site. The site operates the world’s largest professional network with college graduates being LinkedIn’s fastest-growing demographic (Lee, 2009).
