A philosophy of an organization helps differentiate themselves from their competitors and set a foundation for future success. It also helps shape an organization by presenting the goals they want to accomplish with specific activities. To improve this, many organizations understand the important of sharing values and goals and realize employee recognition. This helps staff from moving forward toward success of the organizations. Chapter 4 introduces “Codes of Ethics in Health Services.” Code of ethics is a guideline for healthcare professionals to accomplish and serve as a member of a society. Similar to other professions, managers have their own code of ethics in maintaining their duties and responsibilities. They also use the codes for ethical decision-making in dealing with ethical issues. Chapter 5 deals with “Organizational Responses to Ethical Issues.” It provides assistance for managers and organizations in their decision making. When creating the content within the code of ethics, it is important to remember and establish immediately that The Code of ethics applies to all Widget Tech Inc. employees and directors. To create a code of ethics a company needs to look to the industry, it is important that employees, directors and stakeholders are aware that “We (Widget Tech Inc.) abide by all rules of conduct of the American Widget Manufactures Association” (Joel Saltzman, 2006) It is also important to Look outside the industry and compare current Code of Ethics with other companies in our manufacturing industry. A company must cover all aspects of business when creating their code of ethics. It is also important for a company to consider problems that might have occurred in the past, and how problems have been resolved.
As briefly mentioned above a code of ethics sets professional morals and ethical principles and offers ethical courses of action to which professionals seek. It also a way that can determine how their actions can be judged. Health information management (HIM) professionals are required to exhibit professional morals when it comes to their engagements with patients, employers, and members of the healthcare team, the public, and stakeholders they assist. A code of ethics is essential in aiding to monitor the decision-making process and can be referenced by people, agencies, organizations, and licensing and regulatory boards, insurance providers, courts of law, and other professional groups (AHIMA House of Delegates) .

The growth of medical knowledge and technology have grown so have the concerns that ethical standards and issues facing our society today may be compromised or not appropriately addressed (Littleton et al., 2010).

Johnson & Johnson has gained a competitive advantage over most of its competitors because of its leadership in diverse healthcare products. This company offers a plethora of products such as baby care, oral care, skin care, wound care, women health, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. Robert Wood Johnson crafted the company’s credo, a statement of in which he expresses the company mission of “caring for the world, one person at a time.” (Johnson & Johnson 2015). The company’s credo is very well-structured and very detailed about claiming full responsibility for its employees, doctors, nurses, and patients and also developing a positive business relationship amongst its stakeholders (Johnson & Johnson 2015). Johnson & Johnson is well known for its caring and fair culture to society and corporate environment, however, this company has faced multiple ethical dilemmas which have jeopardized their brand.
Ethics is the moral behavior that guides our actions; it motivates us in our personal behavior and is relevant in a business setting as well. Many organizations have set forth a set of guidelines known as a “Code of Ethics”. The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, being one of these organizations, has set forth their code as a requirement for students and engineer members to adhere to. Heading towards a career in electrical engineering I choose this organization to elaborate on for my ethics project.
