ETHICAL ISSUES YEAR 9 ENGLISH -
MARRIAGE EQUALITY-
I strongly believe that marriage equality should be legalised in Australia because everyone should be able to have a chance at love. Same sex couples from Australia are forced to get marriage in a different country just because Australia wont legalise marriage equality. I think that if the couple is happy thats all that should matter. In public when i see a gay couple it makes me uncomfortable but i don't mind because they are just people too and they are also happy and thats all that matters. Marriage equality is a on going ethical issue that should be taken more seriously.
ABORTION-
My opinion on abortion is that it should be allowed because just say if a woman was raped and became
My opinion about abortion is that it should be illegal. I think this because you are killing a fetus which is alive and has a heart beat.By getting an abortion it can also cause some girls to have a mental reaction for giving up there child. It can also harm their own bodies.
Allowing same sex couples to marry can do huge things for both the economy and Australia’s image we will no longer be the country that has violated a basic human right. Legalising same sex marriage can bring a profitable $500 million dollars into the economy and will decrease suicide rates. As a modern day first world country it is our obligation to allow marriage equality.
Under the Marriage Act 1961 (Cth), a marriage celebrated overseas is recognised in Australia dependent of certain basic conditions. Firstly, your marriage must have been legally recognised by the local Irish law at the time it was celebrated. Secondly, your marriage must not be a prohibited relationship under the Australian law, which includes marriage to an underage person or mentally incapable of consent, marriage between siblings or direct family descendants, and in cases of marriage consent obtained by duress or fraud. Moreover, you will be required to prove that either you or your wife are Australian citizens, domicile in Australia on a permanent basis, or ordinarily reside in Australia for a year immediately to the filing of the application.
Abortion should be illegal because it is murder. Abortion not only kills the baby but it also kills the mother in some cases. In many different countries
If a woman wants abortion I believe that they can get pregnant on purpose then decide having a baby is too much and get abortion. Stated in the article “Why should Abortion be Legal?” On News24 it said “Abortion prevents unwanted and unplanned pregnancies which prevents child neglect since the mother does not want to have children at that moment in time.” I believe that if becoming pregnant was unplanned but they still had sex women should NOT be allowed to get abortion. It was their decision to have sex they should not be able to get abortion if the woman becomes pregnant. Women that get raped should be able to because they did not decide for this to happen and they might not be ready for a baby. Abortion should NOT be legal for just anything! The women should have a good reason for taking a child's
Abortions should stay legal because they save mothers lives, they stop young pregnancy and making abortions illegal will only make them hazardous to mothers.
Australian Marriage Equality is a national organization actively working to achieve ‘equal marriage for all consenting adults’ with the belief that an individuals’ sexuality ‘should not affect their legal rights and responsibilities under Australian marriage law’ (Australian Marriage Equality, 2014).
The reason I believe so strongly about the abortion issue is because sometimes circumstances beyond a woman’s control present themselves. Women who are raped, who carry a disease, who are too young to be mothers, who are drug addicts and women who are too old to have children should all be able to obtain an abortion. Not only is the choice a good one for the potential mother but it is also a good choice for the unborn child. Before sixteen weeks the unborn child is not even considered a fetus. That is why I believe
Section 51 (xxi) of the Australia Constitution gives Commonwealth power to regulate and define the meaning of marriage. It has been defined as “a formal, monogamous and heterosexual union for life”. This definition of marriage is taken from the 19th century English cases, which are Hyde v Hyde and Woodmansee . However, nowadays, people start to challenge the definition of marriage given in the constitution and demand for the change. They want the definition of marriage includes same sex couples and these couples been given the same rights as heterosexual couples.
Equal rights is an important issue in Australia and the current legislation that surrounds gay marriage is a major road block to equality for our nation. It is unjustifiable to discriminate against a minority group based upon characteristics that are entirely harmless to society and won't impact those outside of the gay and lesbian community. Here are some of the reasons behind why homosexual couples are still being discriminated against.
Why not Australia? Australia is considered to be one of the most accepting country in the world. But why is homosexual marriage still illegal?
Even though Christianity (the largest religion in Australia) is against gay marriage, 53% of then have decided to set aside one of the aspects of their religion to accept and adapt to the times. 53% of Christians are for gay marriage. Today in Australia we all live in a secular non discriminatory society. Churches and other spiritual institutions exist within this society. Reverend Bill Crews a Uniting Church Minister from Sydney says “It seems to me that in a secular and non discriminatory society gay couples should be as free to marry as any other human couple”
Same-sex relationships date back to Greek and Roman times. They have existed in society for hundreds of years. It was during a culture shift during the Christian revolution that society began to condemn the practice. Our current society is realizing same-sex relationships do exist and have done so regardless of law allowing them to outwardly celebrate their unions. Gay couples have remained secluded in society and covered their living arrangements under feeble explanations and lies. Hiding true feelings and living a lie is destructive to a person’s well-being and happiness. Recently the United States took steps to legalize and recognize unions of all types whether they are of opposite-sex or same-sex. Our country stands for equality and freedom so this is only right that our country take this step along with many others around the globe.
There are many articles written about the debate of same-sex marriage with many varying opinions on whether it is a good thing or a bad thing. Everyone has their own opinion about same-sex marriage. But they don’t seem to understand how many people it will effect in Australia if it’s a majority “No” vote. An article called ‘Census: Same-Sex Couples Still A Statistically Small Percent Of Australians’. The article states that 40%—50% of the population is gay. Which means of a population of nearly 24.5 million people roughly half is gay. So why not allow gay marriage to happen here in Australia? There is already so many countries that have already allowed it to happen in their country in the last 20 years.
Gay marriage is one of the most questionable issues in the modern world. For the past thousand years, marriage has been recognised as the social gathering between a man and a woman. In most cultures across the globe, homosexuality was viewed with disapproval, and marriages between same-sex couples were forbidden. Gay marriage in Australia should be legalised because, of the hospital visitation and medical rights, gay marriage will increase the number of orphans adopted and it will decrease the numbers of young adults/teen’s depression with who they are.
