Mars Rover Curiosity: Precarious Landing On The Red Planet

10:32 p.m. PDT on August 5th, 2012 the Mars rover Curiosity made its very precarious landing on the red planet. Curiosity is the largest rover that has ever been sent into space with very impressive specifications. Curiosity has a total mass of 1,982 pounds, which is a little below the weight of a car, along with it being over 10 feet long 9 feet wide and 7 feet tall. Curiosity also has a brand new power source, it uses a Radioisotope power system that generates power from the natural decay of the plutonium isotope: Plutonium-238. Since Curiosity has such a large mass engineers at N.A.S.A had to create a new landing system for the plus sized rover.
