Henry David Thoreau once said “Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves.”In order to succeed, rules and laws must be broken and shattered.

For example, Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested for protesting the horrific treatment of blacks. While in the process of being arrested, he continued to speak his mind. King accepted the punishment that was set upon him, but he did not give up. King was threatened by a plethora of people; he did not care about them as much as his desire for equal rights. Martin’s protests are unique, for the participants were not allowed to use violence by any means necessary. The people supporting these protests were harassed, beaten, and put in jail a multitude of times, but they accepted this unfair treatment and restrained themselves from using violence. All around the world, there are people with different sexualities; a tremendous amount of them are judged every day because of their sexuality. Not only did lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders fight for same sex marriage to be legal, but people who like the opposite sex did as well.
