Knowledge is a distinct gift that is gained through the power of learning from mistakes, progress, and experience, which is why knowledge is has been proven to be a push for mankind to create and learn about new things each and every day. Without knowledge, people feel empty, and they feel that way because they feel useless, and they feel useless because they don’t know what to do, and this is what leads me to believe that texts like Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein or Pauline Hopkins of One Blood: or the Hidden Self can portray, knowledge. They can portray the importance in knowledge because these text’s reveal in many cases why it is extremely important to obtain knowledge no matter the gender or sexuality of a person or thing. This shows how in Frankenstein a male monster can come to learn things in a much more natural way, and that he isn’t required to be taught like a normal human being would. Moreover, it is also very important to point out that even though no female monster was created in the end, she would have been capable of learning everything like the male monster, because in the end knowledge is just a form of dedication.
To further extend on the book Frankenstein, Shelley it states, “My days were spent in close attention, that I might master the language” (128). Further concluding my idea that the monster wants to learn and by learning or gaining knowledge the monster is becoming more aware of the roles that his own gender play, thus leading us to later on read that he is demanding a wife to fulfill his roles in the world just like every other average male would do with a wife. Another great example can be when Frankenstein was requesting a female companion. In the book it states, “You must create a female for me, with whom I can live in the interchange of those sympathies necessary for my being.” This is important because it shows the role of gender in this book meaning that Frankenstein knows that he needs a female companion to accompany him in order not to feel lonely in this world of his which is why he demands a female companion like the average human would.
