Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Mary Shelley was born August 30, 1797 and died February 1, 1851. Her nationality was British. By the time she was nineteen, Mary had written one of the most famous novels ever published, Frankenstein; which was published in 1818.
She also wrote six other novels, a novella, mythological dramas, stories and articles, various travel books, and biographical studies. By 1851, the year of her death, she had established a reputation as a prominent author independent of her famous husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley.

This close-knit family was to provide Mary with a model of domestic affection and harmony that would surface later in her fiction. The dunes, the beach, and the barren hills near Dundee inspired Mary, and she would later describe this scenery in her novella Mathilda (written in 1819-1820).
On a visit home in 1812, she met Percy Bysshe Shelley, a political radical and free-thinker like her father, when Percy and his first wife Harriet visited Godwin's home and bookshop in London. By 1814, Percy Shelley was paying frequent visits to Godwin, and had struck up a friendship with his daughter, Mary. Initially, Percy’s relationship with his wife was a happy one, as she made an effort to share in his studies and his intellectual pursuits. After their daughter Eliza Ianthe Shelley was born, however, Harriet gave up on their intellectual life completely, and she did not pay as much attention to Percy’s interests. Shelley was not pleased with this change: as the eldest son of a wealthy baronet with a mother and four younger sisters who adored him, he was accustomed to being the centre of attention for the women in his life. Consequently, Percy looked for that companionship and sympathy elsewhere, and found it in Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin. If I was to describe Mary with one word it would be misfortunate. Ever since birth she has been facing problems after problems. Two weeks after birth, Mary’s mother, Mary Wollstonecraft past away due to a severe fever.
Mary Shelley was a young, well-educated woman from England. She was born on August 30th 1797, in London. Her mother Mary Wollstonecraft, was the author of “A Vindication of the Rights of Woman”. She died giving birth to Mary, leaving her daughter in the care of her husband, William Godwin. The atmosphere that Mary Shelley grew up in exposed her to cutting-edge ideas, which are shown all throughout the novel. Mary Shelley’s lover, Percy Shelley was a young poet, and as he was already married, her relationship with him wasn’t the smoothest.
Two years passed, and Mary had bore Percy two children; one died a month after birth, and the other died at five months old. This was just the beginning of the tragedies in Mary's life.

Without being married she lived in an irregular household of men who were intent upon achieving glory through their genius. Lord Byron was one such individual. "Surrounded by illegitimate births and infant deaths, they subsisted on high ideals to remake the world through liberation and revolution" (Shattuck 84). It was the hollowness and vanity of these high ideals that Mary Godwin was reacting to when she wrote Frankenstein.

Mary Shelley indirectly reflects her backstory and The Romantic Period through Frankenstein, and even impacts The Romantic Period through her novel. Evidence of both the reflection of The Romantic Period and Ms. Shelley’s impact on it are found in her background, the time period itself (as well as modern times) and in Frankenstein.
William had fault as for marrying Clairmont and disregarding all care for his two daughters. He was so blinded by having her as a companion after so many years of his wife’s death. He left his studies and left the possession of demand in the household to Clairmont. Mary’s tensions with her step mother’s actions were so great that in result she was sent to William Bexter an aquaintence of Mr. Godwin, who lived in Scotland, for care. Mr. Gowin said, “proposing that mary board with his family for several months.”

In her life Mary was faced with must tragedy, from her mom's death to her the death of her husband. In 1816 there were two deaths that were significant, in some way, to Mary. The death of her sister Fanny, who killed herself on October 9th, and also percy's wife harriet`s suicide almost 2 months later. This allowed Mary and Percy to get married, although he was not able to get custody of his kids back. They had trouble having their own kids, with only one of their kids living into adulthood. They had another daughter who they again named clara, she only lived a year. Their son william died from malaria on June 7 1817. Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, is a writer who was greatly influenced by the Romantic era in which she lived. In fact, she moved among the greatest talents of the English Romantic writers including her poet/husband Percy Shelley and their poet/friend Lord Byron. Her writing was also influenced by the other great Romantic poets Wordsworth and Coleridge, whose ideas she either directly quotes or paraphrases in Frankenstein. Since Mary Shelley was so intimate with these great talents of the Romantic movement, it is quite natural that her most famous work Frankenstein reflects many of the Romantic trends and devices.

She has been known to be an amazing novelist, short-story writer, poet, dramatist, and biographer. Today, she is still known for her amazing work.
