The day after the 2016 elections with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, I felt many emotions: disappointment, anger, fear, and sadness. Mr. Panzano, a teacher I see as a mentor, helped me cope with my emotions. I had walked into Mr. Panzano’s room, as I did most school mornings, with my two best friends. There was a dark atmosphere around the school that day, at least for most I turned to Panzano and asked if it was bad that I wanted to cry. He looked at me and the rest of the students in the room and said no. He continued on saying that some of his colleagues weren’t there because they were too upset, but that he was here for us and we had every right to be upset. He said , yes he was a part of the white male majority, but he was here to show us it didn’t entitle him to anything and he too was upset about the election. He finished …show more content…
They were powerful. He had been able to provide a moment of comfort in a difficult time for most of the students. He is a leader who expresses an immense care for the students at the school but still knows how to maintain his business like demeanor. His ability to shape his behavior and emotions to the atmosphere of a situation or environment is impressive. I want to be a leader that others can depend on and seek help from , feel comfortable with, respect, and that can stand up for others. I want to embody the ability to speak confidently, to be inspiring, and act accordingly with the situation I am in.
My goal has started to become a reality because of Mr. Panzano. He has inspired me to be more confident. I have low self-esteem and he has agreed to help me with my struggles. He has even shared some of his leadership tips with me. He told me that sometimes you have to make choices that others won’t agree with in order to help them or yourself grow. I am truly grateful for his help and I hope to use what I am learning to good use in helping other as I’ve been
As a committed member of the SGA/Leadership class, I was taught to lead by example. I achieved missions to instill values of integrity, passion, and service as I cooperated that into my school and community. The class handed me the opportunity to host school-sponsored events while giving me a hands-on, authentic opportunity to learn and develop leadership skills for the future and put the skills learned into practice through the coordination of planning and implementing events. I was nominated to chair numerous committees. Through delegating tasks, working tight-knit with others, laying a foundation for rules, integrity, and values, I earned credibility. My leadership skills spoke "do as I do" and not "do what I say" which enabled others
Through Frederick Douglass’s, Sam Houston’s, and my own life, being fearless, determined, and dependable has helped us be great leaders. In all great leaders, character plays an important part, for it defines the way they will interact with people and situations. Leaders tend to have strong traits, courage and ambition, for example.
Being a leader allows you to inspire those around you it allows you to not only grow as a person, but, also allows you to grow as a mentor that can help others become better versions of themselves. An important leadership trait I possess is my emphasis on quality; I’ve never been the type of person that has
Reading Peggy McIntosh's essay "Unpacking the Knapsack of white privilege" I felt very uncomfortable because even thought you don’t want to believe that your skin color and race, can have so much impact on how your life can be and how people would treat you is very sad. We are people and that’s all that matters, why do we have to put down other groups because of the way they look or speak. Is hard to explain how I really felt because for some reason I felt betray why am not sure I feel like I have so much against me that is very scary think about it am a Mexican female, and as a woman I already have so much negativity coming towards me and then you add that am Mexican and its very overwhelming. I got very emotional doing the assignment to the point that it was hard to finish. I think because of what's going on in our society, many groups targeting my people and trying to raise kids in this world is getting harder. but I think the first list was easier because if I kept on going with the second list I would have a longer paper and more negative thoughts in my head. Am very proud of being Mexican and I wouldn't change that for anything, but sometimes all the negative things that people say about your people can be very
“As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others” according to Bill Gates, while John Maxwell tells people that “Leadership is influence - nothing more, nothing less.” Neither of them completely capture leadership, but at the same time, neither of them are wrong. To be a leader, one must empower and influence those they lead in order to get the results they want. Neither one mentions that a leader must be confident in themselves and show others that they are confident with the decisions they make for themselves and others. As president of the Italian National Honor Society at my school, it is my job to promote excellence in the course, as well as in the community. Since our society values giving back to the community, we put an emphasis on community service. Many of the other students in the society worried about completing their hours. I showed them that they did not need to worry about getting their service hours by completing all of my required hours for both National and Italian Honor Societies before the end of November.
The most valuable characteristics of a leader, for me, entail creativity, empathy, and passion. I wholly believe leadership is something that is learned through experience and drive– the National Honor Society is a catalyst to foster determination. Leadership in a classroom environment is where I first came into contact with the motivation and creativity that such a habitat
Since childhood, I had a chance to develop my leadership and organizational skills through sports and had my school team win many competitions. My school is one of the places where my leadership qualities are valued as I often become a head of many activities, such as staging plays, organizing shows and school trips with my teachers. Being a leader gives me the opportunity to work in a team and consider my peers’ ideas to make our plans creative and enjoyable for everyone. My personal traits help me to gain trust and respect of my peers as they believe me to be a positive, open-minded and reliable person. I have learned to solve problems and conflicts thanks to this great experience of leadership, and I am always ready to assist my peers when it is
I occupy my time in clubs and activities that both captivate my interest and are most important for my peers and me. These include but are not limited to my positions in Link Crew, Student Council, and Senior Board. They range from Senior Class Representative to Vice President. Many of my teachers and mentors have identified a characteristic of mine as a great leader, and I wanted to improve on these skills. I don't dominate discussion or action, I simply guide it. I take all of my positions seriously and always bring my best attitude; my leadership methods distinguish me from other
Some people wonder why we as a species get fascinated with the allure of fear and the way it frightens us. It could be the imagination our brain creates to scare itself, or possibly the strange unknown… What we don’t understand that makes the phobia come up to the surface and controls our body and mind. In social media, and the content we consume, there are artists and creators that develop it that’s supposed to scare the skeleton out of our skin. How they do it is from transformations.
I firmly believe that the people i've surrounded myself with have helped me become the person I am today. I think that they have helped me become a leader in my own right and have pushed me to achieve reach my full potential. The passion that I have has forced me to be the leader i am in the sense that i push for the goals I know are reachable and it has also allowed me to be the leader that compromises when it comes to the people I work with. I’m adaptable, positive, and i maximize where and when I
Often when racial inequality and discrimination is being discussed, we get to think of terms such as “white privilege” and American history with the Civil Rights Act in 1964. But we think of it, mainly as history. And that, according to Tim Wise, an anti-racism activist and American writer, is the biggest self-deception of the modern American world. Throughout an article posted on his own webpage, concerning school shootings, Tim Wise discusses the general American attitude towards this relatively new phenomenon in American society. With the use of especially pathos Wise argues that the most concerning thing about these events is how
I understand being a good or even great leader takes a great amount of hard work and dedication. No matter where I am or what I am doing, I push myself to the limit and do what needs to be done; sometimes even more. I strive to be the best in all I do. I want to become a good leader like my father. I want to be able to handle even the most difficult situations in the most calm and confident manner.
Our world is filled with many successful leaders. The gift of being a leader can be learned; however some individuals have a natural born talent to be a leader. Each leader has his or her own unique leadership style. The gift of being a leader can be learned. Certain individuals are born with a charismatic style and can easily be a leader. A successful leader is one who can inspire and motivate people towards a goal. Martin Luther King Jr. was an individual with a born gift to lead people. The following paper will discuss how Martin Luther King Jr. was able to inspire and motivate people with his effective leadership style.
As I reflect on the results of the assessments mentioned above, I have learned that my character traits persuade me to be a leader that looks after the well-being of all individuals, teachers and students. It can also be determined, that as a leader I will abide to policies and procedures and be able to make arrangements in order to collaborate and come to a consensus to reach a positive outcome. Furthermore, my hardworking character will strive to
The readings for the course complimented the activities that were done in class. Many of the overarching themes of the course pertained to finding your own passion in life. You can only be a great leader if you are passionate about the cause that you are leading. The Harvard Business Press published an article by Stewart D. Friedman labeled, Total Leadership: Be a Better Leader, Have a Richer Life. The article’s aim is to clarify what is important in one’s life. One of the ways in which this is accomplished is by describing your hero or someone you admire (Friedman, p. 478). For my Will to Lead paper I discussed how my grandfather was my hero and somebody that I greatly respect. I have always loved learning, but never thought
