Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs
The purpose of this paper is to explain Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and to explain his describe who and what they are. I will also give a short description of who Maslow was and that things he accomplish while pursuing his educations.
Abraham Harold Maslow was born April 1, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the first born of seven children to his uneducated Jewish family from Russia. With his parent pushing him hard to succeed academic he became very lonely and found confront in books. First, he studied law to satisfy his parent at city college of New York and Cornell. He married his first cousin despite his parents consent and had two daughters. Next, Maslow and his wife eventually moved to Wisconsin so he can attend University of Wisconsin. There is where he became interested in psychology and improved in his works. Maslow received his BA in 1930, his MA in 1931 and his PhD in 1934 all in psychology from UOW. A year after graduations Maslow and his family returned back to New York. There he began working closely with E.L Thorndike at Columbia and became interested in research on human sexuality. As a result, He began teaching full time at Brooklyn College and during that time he came in contact with many European intellectual that was immigrates. Maslow eventually served as chair of the psychology department at Brandeis from 1951 to 1969. While there he met Kurt Goldstein who originated the idea of self- actualization in his famous book and…
