Lankford (2016) suggests that uniquely American notions are powerfully at work.
He cites survey data showing that young Americans continue to embrace the "American dream" of soaring financial and educational achievement, of doing better than one's parents. When such dreams are frustrated, this bedrock belief in upward mobility predisposes some -- especially those with a tenuous grasp on mental health -- to psychological "strain." In rare instances, severe strain helps forge mass shooters, he wrote.
As powerful as the drive for material success is a newer American dream -- a yearning for fame, wrote Lankford. By this American preoccupation, too, he suggests, frustrated strivers can be nudged toward mass violence.

That would be certainly true and would make a day for gun proponents; however the research shows direct connection between the association of national firearm ownership rates and number of mass shooters in the country. It will take major law change to limit access to guns for many people in the US, where the laws are very permissible even still, and there is still no nationaly mandated backgrownd checks, and Military grade assult rifles (AR-15, Rugger mini-14) could be bought on gun shows with in minutes, or in Big 5 sporting goods stores with purely “check in the box” background looks. The lows are made by lowemakers and politians who always worry about reelections, they always in need for voters and fundraisers, and that is where NRA ( National Rifle Association) with their outspoken , infamous president Wayne LaPierre come into play. At the time of this writing the president of the United States of America, Donald Trump giving a speech and endorsement in their headquarters: by telling them [ NRA ] he will never 'infringe' on gun rights. And 8 year assault on 2nd amendment is over. That said, weapons manufactures companies: Colt, Smith & Wesson, Savage, Remington, Dickinson, Mossberg, Rugger etc, are billion dollar industries, they make money by making and selling guns, majority of their customer base is domestic market, it does not look anything is going to shatter their hold on the share in the our economy, after all they are paying corporate taxes and make hefty contributions to the government elected officials. This is creates most challenging (politicaly) step the United States could take to reduce public mass shootings: reducing firearms availability for the general public since the supply will not shrink, at least in the foreseeable future. That is conclusion Lankford (2016) came to after doing extensive research in to the issue. He has a very
The mental health system in The United States is flawed and needs serious reform. Many of the mentally ill are failing to seek the help that they need and deserve in a country like the U.S is baffling and must be reassessed. The system causes a rise in gun violence and more specifically, mass shootings. There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration when approaching mental disorders and their correlation with mass shootings. Things such as type of mental disorder, the widespread diagnosis in the US, masculinity in men, and gun laws themselves. This research was done through a series of articles, interviews, and books. Mental disorders need to be taken largely into consideration when trying to find a cause for a shooting, and
Admittedly, the amount of mass shootings in America is still going on onto this day, as last week, California had a recent one, carried out by a couple with assault grade weapons. Thus, this topic was brought up countless time on the news, what could be done. I believe pretending is part of the problem. These things happen over and over again and yet we do nothing and pretend it won’t happen again. Changing nothing and then believing something will change is a ludicrous ideology. This same ideology is being used by many Americans, we are given examples of other place throughout the world on how they turn their country gun problem around, similar to Australia, yet we pretend we don’t notice just like we pretend we don't notice our country's
Using this definition, a 2016 study published in the journal Violence and Victims reported that 292 mass shooting incidents took place worldwide between 1966 and 2012; nearly one-third of these were in the United States.”(DiLascio, 2017). The statistics are the answer to whether or not limiting firearms in The United States will help in the overall goal of limiting firearm violence. Other Countries such as England and Japan have more regulations on firearms and it limits the firearm related murders in those Countries. “Have some of the tightest gun control measures in the world, also feature some of the world’s lowest gun homicide rates (per 100,000 people, 0.04 killings and 0.03, respectively). The United States, by contrast, has a rate of 3.42 gun murders per 100,000 people-100 times greater than England or Japan” (Ballaro, 2016). Over the years gun crime has decreased a lot. “ Although gun crime declined steadily throughout the 1990s and early 2000s-thanks in part, perhaps, to the assault weapons ban still in force at the time-it increased sharply in 2005 and has been on a steady rise since. In 2008, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a bipartisan group of 300 US mayors, found that homicides from handguns were highest in states with the most lenient gun laws” (Ballaro,
“Since at least 1950, all but two public mass shootings in America have taken place where general citizens are banned from carrying guns.” Now, envision being in a mall and you hear a horrible scream immediately after you hear a massive CRACK! You look behind you and you see a man running at you with a gun, you grab for your gun but you remember you have just gave your gun to the government. You would be defenseless because of gun control. Gun control should not be reinforced for the reasons that most mass shootings are in gun free zones. most gun related death are suicides, and these laws wouldn’t apply to criminals.
The mass shooting has become a big issue in the United States. After shootings like the one that happened in Newtown, Connecticut all Americans come together to look for ways to actually prevent mass shootings to happened. “Mass shootings are defined as the killing of four or more victims Rates of Mass shootings have risen dramatically in the last few years. Since 2006, there have been more than 200 mass killing in the United States.” (Usatoday.com) Due to the big increase in mass shootings a question is still debatable. Are these mass shootings due to environmental factors or genetics?
In 2012 several mass shootings accrued which reignited gun-control and firearm ownership debates in the United States. There are more public mass shootings in the United States than in any other country in the world. Many of the shooters had a mental illness and most states do not require background checks for firearms purchased at gun shows from private individuals, which is known as the “gun show loophole”. This results in too many guns falling into the hands of dangerous people, which is why we need stricter regulations. Although many others think getting a stricter amendment on gun control violets our second amendment we still need to do something about this situation.
Mass shootings in the U.S have many different causes as to why they occur. USA Today mentions that breakups, estrangements and family related problems make up the majority of mass killings. Although, many seem to blame gun violence and mental illnesses. Mass shootings can also involve a failed security system such as mistakes in the mental health system and gun control. (USA Today, 2013.) People question whether or not people with mental illness should be allowed to obtain a gun, while others argue that guns can provide safety when used correctly.
Gun control has become a hot topic currently. Shootings have become the new normal with today’s society, with shootings occurring on a monthly basis. It seems that guns have become a major problem, or possibly something else? Political leaders always prefer to blame the gun first and call for new laws and restrictions on firearms. There could be multiple ways to prevent such crime, but will restricting firearm ownership or banning certain types of guns stop or reduce mass shootings or crimes in general? Owning a firearm, a guaranteed freedom of every law-abiding citizen and taking away or restricting the rights of a citizen makes the United States a less free nation. Making guns more accessible and given the proper training will allow citizens to more effectively protect themselves, defend their families and deter criminals.
Without a doubt there is a lot of violence on the news today, from mass shootings to murder almost every day. The violence happening should have schools and work places concerned and working better security to their environment. Mass shootings that have occurred over the years such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Aurora Movie Theater and the University of California had shooter that had been diagnosed with one or more mental issue. people and the cops can’t trace the gun back to the suspect. There has been 133 mass shootings in the U.S. between January 2005 to July 2009. The mass shooting in Las Vegas killed 58 people and injured 500 others. A church shooting in Texas killed 20 people. In order for it to be a mass shooting it has to kill more than 3 or 4 people. 3 out of 4 mass shootings in the U.S. came from kids under the age of 19. On Jan. 17, 1989 a man killed 5 children and wounding 30 other students and teachers before killing himself. Shooters in some of the deadliest mass shootings in the U.S. history carried models of the country’s most popular types of weapons.
In the last ten months, since the start of the year 2015, proximally 300 mass shootings have taken place in the United States. This number is about 100 times the amount of mass shootings in Australia since their gun restricting bill was passed in 1996. This raises the discussion whether or not changing the American gun laws would help bring down the total of injuries and fatalities.

We live in a world where the society is run by men and where men have more power than women because of the system of “Patriarchy” where men were the domain and the leader of the family. A system where males hold first in power and position through roles of leadership and the idea of men represented the world’s most populated and centered people in the world. During the time, women would be maids or servants and women would have to obey and listen to men’s orders. This caused the stereotypical life of women having the image of being “weak” while men being “strong”. In my opinion, I feel that this should change because the image that is causing a barrier around us because of who we are and how we look. While reading the Memoirs of Geisha, I feel
In the novella “Animal Farm” written by George Orwell, we see many different themes. It goes from talking about power, to talking about democrats and socialists. We are going to be talking about education. This will show you that all of the animals other than the pigs have a lack of education. It will show that being illiterate and innumerate is very dangerous in society. There are no perks to being uneducated but, there are many disadvantages. Being taken advantage of, being tricked, and having less rights. All of these things show how having a lack of education is dangerous.
Capitalism, in its advancements, had led to new criticisms made by Max Webber. He had come to the conclusion that capitalism was a “result of the protestant spirit” (126). Webber believed that religion, particularly Catholicism, had a bigger role in capitalism rather than the status of the economy itself. Regardless of the standing power of ruling countries like Spain, capitalism did not evolve due to the Catholic religion. As stated in Capitalism: a Graphic Guide, “being wealthy was never seen as something to be proud of” (127). Although boasting about wealth was against the Catholic Church, it was endured. Protestants believed otherwise. Protestant values, as well as Catholicism, led Weber to consider justification, or rationalization, as a component rising from capitalism.
