He cites survey data showing that young Americans continue to embrace the "American dream" of soaring financial and educational achievement, of doing better than one's parents. When such dreams are frustrated, this bedrock belief in upward mobility predisposes some -- especially those with a tenuous grasp on mental health -- to psychological "strain." In rare instances, severe strain helps forge mass shooters, he wrote.
As powerful as the drive for material success is a newer American dream -- a yearning for fame, wrote Lankford. By this American preoccupation, too, he suggests, frustrated strivers can be nudged toward mass violence.

That would be certainly true and would make a day for gun proponents; however the research shows direct connection between the association of national firearm ownership rates and number of mass shooters in the country. It will take major law change to limit access to guns for many people in the US, where the laws are very permissible even still, and there is still no nationaly mandated backgrownd checks, and Military grade assult rifles (AR-15, Rugger mini-14) could be bought on gun shows with in minutes, or in Big 5 sporting goods stores with purely “check in the box” background looks. The lows are made by lowemakers and politians who always worry about reelections, they always in need for voters and fundraisers, and that is where NRA ( National Rifle Association) with their outspoken , infamous president Wayne LaPierre come into play. At the time of this writing the president of the United States of America, Donald Trump giving a speech and endorsement in their headquarters: by telling them [ NRA ] he will never 'infringe' on gun rights. And 8 year assault on 2nd amendment is over. That said, weapons manufactures companies: Colt, Smith & Wesson, Savage, Remington, Dickinson, Mossberg, Rugger etc, are billion dollar industries, they make money by making and selling guns, majority of their customer base is domestic market, it does not look anything is going to shatter their hold on the share in the our economy, after all they are paying corporate taxes and make hefty contributions to the government elected officials. This is creates most challenging (politicaly) step the United States could take to reduce public mass shootings: reducing firearms availability for the general public since the supply will not shrink, at least in the foreseeable future.
