Nevertheless, I didn’t hesitate in taking the job and I do not regret it. At the contrary, I felt in love with it. The Academic Advisor is supposed to help 75 participants per district. During the school year I started, 2014-2015, I recruited 103 students. All of my seniors are going to college, starting in the fall semester and the rest of the students passed to the following grade. Above all, after having this amazing experience, as well as feeling the way I feel about my kids, I’ve decided to pursue a Master in Student Counseling. With this type of Master, I could help more kids to continue their educations. I would really enjoy helping students even when they don’t believe in themselves, or have any limitation that makes them doubt what
Upon completion of my Master of Arts in School Counseling my goal is to work with elementary or middle school ages in groups and with individuals for improved personal and learning outcomes of students in their educational success, and to foster personal growth by giving back to the community. A counselling relationship is likened to being on a journey - a beginning, middle and end (Smallwood, 2013). During the beginning phase the client develops sufficient trust in the counsellor and the relationship ‘to explore the previously feared edges of his awareness’ (Mearns and Thorne, 1988, p.126).
I am interested in the Master of Social Work program with Walden University because I have always had an interest in the various aspects and components of the profession. I am interested the opportunities that a job in human services and helping profession will allow. A social work degree is accepted for a mass variety of careers and organizations. I have researched a multitude of programs that focus on Master of Social Work. After a lot of consideration Walden has my number one choice due to its accreditation with the Council of Social Work Education, and the option to study online. The accreditation that is offered through Walden is accepted in my home state of Alabama. Being able to study online was a major influence on my decision because I am a full-time working mother. Time is valuable and Walden’s flexibility allows me to further my education.
My pursuit of becoming a School Counselor led me to apply to the School Counseling Master’s Program at University of Maryland, College Park. I am a former student at University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. After graduating and teaching for two years in Prince George’s County Public Schools, I discovered my true passion lies not only in the classroom and students’ academics, but playing a pivotal role in the growth of their career, social, and personal development. Although I am no longer teaching full-time at the moment, my interaction with students from diverse backgrounds left an indelible responsibility to continue making a difference in our students. The objectives and mission of the School Counseling Master’s Program at University of Maryland can best help my goal of becoming an effective counselor and leader who is an agent of change to students and service the mental and emotional well-being of the younger generation.

Determined to find her own answers, Katherine—who has a master’s degree in social work—spent the better part of 2009 and 2010 seeking out concussion experts, reading up on neuroscience research and attending medical conferences on brain injury. Word of her newly acquired expertise spread through her Norwalk, Connecticut., community, and it soon became well known: If your kid has been concussed, Katherine is the next stop for advice and answers after you’ve left the doctor’s office or hospital. She estimates that she counseled over 300 families in those first two years. “It was kind of like being a concussion doula,” Katherine says.
I am writing to inform you of my strong interest in pursuing a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling with Nova Southeastern University for the Fall 2016 program. I earned my Bachelor’s of Science Degree with a double major in Psychology and Research from The University of North Florida in 2013. For the past three years I have worked for Gateway Community Services as an Adolescent Outpatient Counselor. I am looking forward to continuing my education with Nova Southeastern University.
My primary goal is to be a mentor, counselor, and advocate for the youth. Over the years I volunteered at a boys and girls club where I used leadership and motivation skills to communicate and assist my students with their needs. While volunteering I gained a sense of confidence, knowing that my words and actions aided in the children’s accomplishment. My work at the boys and girls club inspired me to pursue a career in the field of developmental psychology. Additionally, my curiosity piqued when attempting to comprehend my nephew’s diagnosis of ADHD and anti-social disorder. With a graduates degree in developmental psychology I’ll be able to use the knowledge I’ve acquired to inform and advise the youth as well as conduct research that will later assist in helping many nationwide.
I do not allow life’s lethal blows to stop me from moving to the next level. I hope you can see the passion I have for learning, the environment and coming to the aid of those in need. The person I am and the experiences I have will add to this program’s diversity and depth of learning in and out of the classroom. I believe that this program will aid in developing my professional identity into one that is respected, credible and authentic. This institution will further enhance my acquired skills while adding new ones to my arsenal, which will in turn equip me with what I need to take on the world. Lastly, I leave you with a sediment from the Amazing Maya Angelou. “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it” ~ Maya
After having this amazing experience, and feeling the way I feel about my kids, I’ve decided to pursue a Master in Student Counseling. With this type of Master I could help more kids to continue their educations. I would really enjoy helping students even when they don’t believe in themselves, or have any limitation that makes them doubt what they are capable of achieving. I could be that push for them. I am a vivid example that anything can be done. My own experience from where I came from and how far I’ve become, even with the language limitation, is what drives me. Now I can proudly say that I came to this country seven years ago knowing any English, did my senior year of high school, graduated college in four years, got my own car, recently
At this point in my life I am eager to continue my education in the hopes of mastering my purpose of helping others. I realize that by way of consequence of difference, the intersectionality of many factors of an individual’s life can lead to negative experiences and this is an aspect of society I hope to change. Also, my dream of opening my own psychology office would not be possible without furthering my education. This degree will allow me to counsel at risk youth and make a difference in their lives. I know that continuing my education through this program will prepare me for the professional practice I will encounter daily and help to lay the foundation of my future as a helpful member of society.
Not only did this person challenge me, guide me, or advise me throughout my four years of high school, she supported any goal--any ambition--I was striving to achieve. Counselors may not always get the credit they deserve, but Megan McIntyre is a counselor of high merit; she deserves recognition. From my first steps into high school, she has worked with students like me who knew nothing about the place--only the fact that your sibling might be lurking the halls. She was always open and willing to answer your questions or provide any counsel you could imagine: anything ranging from preparing for next semester or planning for the future, McIntyre was there and willing to counsel. She has impacted my high school experience with her diligence
