The types of managed care are differentiated by definition, operation, structure, and information needs. `HMOs were the most common type of MCO until commercial insurance companies developed PPOs to compete with HMOs' (Douglas, 2003, p.331). `HMOs are business entities that either arrange for or provide health services to an enrolled population after prepayment of a fixed sum of money, called a premium' (Peden, 1998, p.78). I found it most difficult to understand the idea of how diverse the usage of statistics in an average day. The idea that probability and other statistical concepts exist in our world through real-life examples fascinates me. This created unrest in me because it is easy to fall into the trap of simply believing what one sees at first glance. This way of thinking could create problematic

He explains the reasons for statistics anxiety, for example, he uses the example of a student's perception of its use. If the student does not consider statistics useful, it will contribute to his or her statistics anxiety. Ever since grade school I had never been the biggest fan of math. It wasn’t that I was bad at math, but I have never had a huge interest in the subject. With that being said I put off taking Stats 215 until my winter semester of my junior year, because I didn’t think I would have any interest in the course. I figured that it was going to be like every other math class I have ever taken, being boring with no real application to the career I want to pursue. Going into the class my interest level was very low, and my only reason for taking the class was
After a compelling read of “How to lie with statistics” by Darrell Huff, I am pleased to say that I learned a great amount of quality information. Not only was I shocked about the witty tone but also, I felt as if this book changed the way I would view statistics for the rest of my life.
