In my opinion, I think the work shifts should stay the same, i think this because workers get a certain amount of of pay for the work they do and it seems unfair to the workers that work eight hours to let other workers cut two hours off their shifts when the others don't. Workers tried changing the hours per shift in Sweden and France but although it happened, it had to get changed back after awhile due to people overworking themselves and getting sick. Even if that wasn't an issue, there is more important matters that should be taken care of before this is even looked at, such as America not having paid maternity leave and minority and gender wage gaps. Yea less time working means spending more time with your family, but it also means less
The Roman Empire is credited with the development of many great achievements. These achievements can still be seen in Rome and throughout the world. The Romans are well known for their aqueduct system and huge colosseum that are still standing today. These monumental building feats would not have been created without the use and knowledge of many different techniques. The use of cement was one of the technologies employed to build these large structures. The utilization of arches was another. Many people associate the idea of arches with the Romans. However, they were not the first people to utilize arches. This paper will concentrate on why the Romans were credited with developing the arch; what they did to improve previous cultures use of arches; and how the Romans used arches to create massive structures that are still standing today.
Further support comes from a prospective cohort study conducted by Dagher et al. (2016) which specifically examined the impact of paid maternity leave on the length of breastfeeding. The study population included 817 Minnesota women who gave birth in 2001. The data did not find an association between paid maternity leave and the length of breastfeeding duration, whereas the length of EOML increased the breastfeeding duration. The authors conducted a sub-study to compare employee's self-report information with their employer's written family and medical leave policy. This sub-study included a random subsample of employees (n=118) and their employers (n=90). Results showed that only 29% to 35% of women were aware of their leave benefits and eligibility.
Over the past few decades, the work overload has raised and worsened causing an increase in work hours as well as levels of stress within employees. As stated by Stefani Forster in her article “Sweden Adopts A 6-Hour Work Day: Should Canada Follow Suit?” employees who work longer hours are associated with a decrease in productivity per hour. Sweden has decided to switch to a six hour work day unlike Canada’s average eight our work day, for the organizations to succeed. Much of a company’s success is based on the employee’s performance as well as the ability to complete tasks well and on time. This can be achieved by decreasing the amount of hours an employee works in a day as employees are happier, more energetic and achieve work related
Miller opens the discussion on the campaign issue of paid leave by comparing the views of both parties and how they are looking into policies that will address challenges for working families, lifting middle class standards, and appeal to female workers. Democratic candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley, have proposed paid leave and their approach requires the government to operate a paid leave program while Marco Rubio, a republican candidate, advocates giving tax incentives so businesses would offer it. Rubio's plan provides a 25% tax credit to employers. Miller argues that Rubio's plan won't work because similar government sponsored programs have exhibited little change and it is unlikely to encourage employers who don't offer paid
Realign work schedules and ensure that employees do not work more than 40-hours per week. This solution may require hiring of additional staff to meet deadlines and work requirements.
As a person I personally do not mind paying more taxes as long as it actually went to people who are in need of assistance. I understand that there are people in our society struggling and I believe they should have access to programs that could help the better themselves. The system in which people are picked for the program is flawed because it can easily be tricked which is how people who do not need the assistance can get in the programs.
Since majority of nurses prefer 12-hour shifts it is very unlikely that they will return to 8-hour shifts. Excessive over time still remains an issue, so therefore there are strategies that are being made to protect both nurses and patients safety. These strategies include making sure that nurses working 12-hour shifts, get mandatory breaks and leave work on time and that napping is available for night shift workers.
Among the many labor issues in America today, one of the most prominent being discussed is that of shorter shifts. Traditionally, eight-hour shifts were used to create a time frame for work; this seemed to cause better productivity and happier workers.
Working 8 hour shifts should be kept as the norm. The economic cost of six-hour work days is prohibitive. Either workers or employers will be forced to end up paying for it. If it's the workers, then they'll lose two hours of wages each day, and that's about a quarter of their pay. Even though productivity increased with six-hour workdays, so did sickness.
“The Fall of the House Of Usher” by Edgar Allan Poeis is about a narrator whose name isn't revealed in the story walks up to the House of Usher on a dark and quiet day. The narrator takes his time and observes the mysterious house. He notes that the house is in very bad condition, for example, in the front yard there are decaying trees and dirty ponds. The house itself is decaying as well, with many cracks that are clearly visible on the roof and sides.
My position on the issue of hours worked per day is it should become standard in the United states. An 8 hour work day is usually more dreadful. As is a 6 hour day is more leanient. A shorter work day will be less stressful and will make it more easy to stay on task.
For a long time, there has been a lot of controversy on a woman's maternity leave. The conflict has been whether the woman’s time should be shorter or longer. Maternity leave is the period of time when a woman takes time off work after having given birth to he child. Currently, the average time frame for each woman to get off is 12 weeks. There are two sides to the debate about maternity leave, the people that say women need more time off and people that say they need less time. The people against maternity leave will say that the time women get off is already enough, but they need more time to heal and bond with their children without the added stress of work.
A standard work day in the United States is eight hours and should remain that way. Although there may be some benefits to shorter work days, the negative outcomes outweigh any good. Yes, a six-hour work day would better fit the time brains are fully functioning, but it also means people are making less money. In most households, losing two hours worth of pay everyday makes a big difference which could lead to people having more than one job, stressing them out more and causing them to spend less time at home with family or resting. Not only would it impact workers, but also their family and the company they work for. The second author stated that for most businesses, hiring more people to work the uncovered shifts would cost more than
Beliefs are instilled in each of us from early childhood; oftentimes, inherited through our upbringing, in relation to a trauma, or simply by repetition (Jemmer, 2006). Because humans are egocentric by nature, they often use self-centered standards to justify their beliefs, assuming that others whose beliefs are different than theirs are inaccurate (Paul & Elder, 2012). When using critical thinking, beliefs should be supported by factual evidence. In years past, women have assumed the roles of caregiver for the family and elders, food preparation, and housekeeping, while men have been the family breadwinner (Kray, Howland, Russell, & Jackman, 2017). For many, the shift in gender roles in modern day society is an adjustment for the family, extended family, friends, and even the individuals themselves (Kray, et al., 2017). Due to changes in modern day society, more women are becoming the family breadwinners, often in male-dominated jobs, and men are assuming the family caregiver roles (Kray, et al., 2017). Promoting gender equality in these changing roles is important for the masculine identity as well as enabling the female to find success in the traditional male-dominated roles (Kray, et al., 2017). Older adults often still view the female as the caregiver and assume that there is either something physically wrong with the male or that he is lazy if he is not the family breadwinner.
For the children and adults working in factories, everyone could benefit from shorter work hours. Giving shorter work hours allows for children to have a long about of time in school being taught. For the coal workers, give occasional breaks, make the environment safer and possibly find other sources of energy in not so dangerous areas. In rural areas, to make up for the job decrease, create more jobs and provide more living spaces so not everyone is living in the
