I am applying to take maths as I am interested in pursuing a career which involves the subject. I have been considering other courses, but feel that this course is most suitable for me. I have enjoyed doing maths since year six in primary school, whether it be finding the nth term of a sequence to basic sums. From this I suddenly gained a greater interest at the start of year 12 when we started learning about core maths, which influenced my decision to take maths and further maths at AS level to further enhance my knowledge of both subjects.
They interest me because of the passion I have for these subjects. You use maths every day and I enjoy problem solving, maths is filled with lots of these problems including complex problems at times. I think I am suitable for the course as I have a good interest in maths and I always try to make sure I learn everything by the end of the lesson, if I do not understand something I will try to learn it before my next

In addition to this I have good leadership skills as when it came to group activities I always offer to take the responsibility of being the leader. Also, I have good organisational skills in which I can manage my time carefully and wisely to meet deadlines of assignments. Furthermore, I would say I have good team working skills as I can work well in groups and play a lot of team based sports.
I have just started my tenth year of playing football and have always played as a goalkeeper. This season I am the captain of my team, which increases my leadership, communication and teamwork skills with people my own age. As captain I have to keep morale high within the team even if we are losing and also the keep the communication and control between players to gain the best chance of winning the game. I have earned over 20 trophies playing football, which I am proud to have and I am also proud to be the captain of my
I am able to analyze and solve problems, as well as follow through with direction and coordination. I feel more comfortable when something is completed with organization, but also in a timely manner. I am able to follow through with time management skills, but I also feel as I need to work hard to achieve these skills so that I can be my very
I think it is safe to say math has always been a passion of mine. I remember learning to count to 1000 in first grade. When I was finally able to do it without any help, it was like swimming for the first time, eating the ripe tomatoes I grew myself, or putting together a new song on the guitar. The feeling of accomplishment cannot be recreated. As we get older, this feeling becomes more difficult to achieve. This only increases my motivation and determination to learn something new. AP calculus has been a roller coaster of learning. Despite the struggle and rigor, I learned valuable skills that will help me in my future aspirations. Taking the AP Calculus exam gave me a rush of accomplishment. I have built a knowledge base because I am constantly
Mathematics captured my interest as early as primary school. Also referred to as ′′intellectual gymnastics,′′ mathematics became my subject of focus as I consistently secured excellent
My greatest personal strength is that I am comfortable speaking to large groups. This will enable me to clearly give information and guide the ensemble effectively in any situation.
I started out as a student-athlete in which I depicted great leadership skills and positive role model qualities such as diligence, enthusiasm, and passion for the sport. Hence, after my first year of college, I was named the team captain. I worked closely with the coaches, helped to resolve team conflicts, established the tone for practice, and modeled responsibility, decision-making, and a strong work ethic. I also promoted a positive attitude and team interactions, and encouraged and supported all of my teammates. Throughout my experience as team captain, I showed mental toughness by remaining confident and focus, and respond to individual and team mistakes in an appropriate manner.
When I started my soccer career during my freshman year, I began in the junior varsity team. I was not so familiar with sports until I started playing football and soccer. I once believed that I was not good enough to join the team, but after committing myself to conditioning and being determined to give my best to every practice, I proved myself wrong. Not only did I make it to the team, however I was also a starting player. For the following year, my sophomore year, I transferred into a different high school. There, I played in the Varsity team as a right defense for my sophomore and junior year. This year, 12th grade, I will be a captain for the soccer team. I was able to not only build strong friendships with my teammates, but also with
I am determined to pursue a degree on mathematics, specifically, discrete mathematics. For discrete math and combinatorics and a range of allied fields, Rutgers is one of a small number of best institutions in the world (not just the U.S.). Since that is my main interest at this time, why do I want to transfer away from such a world center of discrete math?
Reflecting on my skills, I believe I have excellent social, communication and language skills. These skills are essential in any customer-facing or team work oriented job. As explained by Morgeson, F. P. et al. in “Selecting individuals in team settings: The importance of social skills, personality characteristics, and teamwork knowledge.” (2005):
Personally I believe that I am organised, I always carry round a diary, where I note down important dates and deadlines, and therefore allowing me to manage my time more efficiently. Another strength that I have is that I know how to operate a computer and I know how to use a computer effectively, at GCSE I got a B in my exam in Information and Technology, therefore giving me an advantage compared to someone who do not know how to use the computer. I also believe that I am confident, and that I have courage and the ability to speak to new people and adapt myself to a new environment without feeling uncomfortable. As well as that, I am also able to work in a group, where I can listen to my members in my group as well as voice my own opinion.
Being a first year soccer member in sixth grade, I had no expectations of becoming captain of our Junior Varsity team. After all, I'm not the player on the team. So it came as a surprise to me when I was selected as captain.
Sophomore year, I was elected team Captain of the Fairfield Union Girls Varsity Soccer team. Even though I was ecstatic to be a leader for the soccer team, I did feel slightly out of place, since there were many girls that were much older than I and wished to uphold a Captain position. I decided it was right for me, as a co-captain, to let the others lead with words, while I,
I think that one of my best strengths is that I can get along with people. Going to a large high school has led me to become the mediator in a number of situations and I learned how to make people feel better and prevent future conflicts. This is a very important skill to have in the community due to the fact that most of my life is in the presence of other
Just because you’re a good player on a team doesn’t mean that you should be given the role of captain. A captain should be someone that is a good role model for the entire team. Someone that will take everyone in and build us as a team. He or she shouldn’t yell or bring anyone down because they did one thing wrong. We are all human and make mistakes. It's about learning from those mistakes and building upon that.
The benefits and opportunities to embrace engineering far outweigh the difficulties in the process, but despite this, my pure love for mathematics has been the major contributor to my ambitions. From a young age, I found math incredibly enjoyable. The order and consistency found through something as simple as the order of operations served as a driving force to my curiosity and dedication to the subject. As the mathematical concepts intensified, I was able to adequately keep up and enjoy the journey along the way. While signing up for my senior year classes, the decision to take calculus was made easily. While speaking with the instructor, Yvonne Sebastian, I discovered that her love for math was derived from similar feelings. In an interview with Sebastian, she stated, “Math is a beautiful thing. Numbers are incredibly simple, but they can be used to calculate very complex scenarios. No matter how difficult a problem may seem, there is always a solution, an answer that can be found and understood through the power of math” (Y. Sebastian, personal communication, February 14, 2017). Interacting with a teacher who understood to a great level of degree my similar feelings regarding math has been an incredible motivator in my desire to pursue a career which incorporates mathematics frequently. For any individual to be happy with their occupation, I would argue that they must experience a desire to progress
I am a very good team member and when given the opportunity, can take the lead and be the team leader
