In the story “The Devil Woman,” readers superficially observe and assume the obvious moral of the story is purity of family. Although this notion may be true, the story explores the ideology behind the promiscuous man. Manuel Natividad, the story’s main protagonist, is to be wedded Sunday to his sweetheart, but that does not stop him from going dancing Saturday night; Manuel was warned about the bad luck associated with going the night before one’s wedding, but his promiscuous mind clouded his judgment and he ignored the superstition. The fact Manuel went into town knowing his sweetheart disproved raises suspicion. During Manuel’s journey into town, “he was riding along in the dim moonlight, he saw a girl walking toward town,” ironically
