What makes an effective leader? Just because a leader is good doesn’t mean they’re effective and just because a leader is effective doesn’t mean they’re good. Maximilien Robespierre was one of the leaders of France that had a firm grip over the whole country as head of the Committee of Public Safety. Even though Maximilien Robespierre, a philosophical leader during the French Revolution, had many good leadership qualities at first, due to his advancement in authority he became power crazy and started turning on his own colleagues and the people of France.
People know Robespierre’s role in the French Revolution, but do they know about his personal life? Maximilien Robespierre was born in 1758 in the old province of Artois, France. He was born into a family of lawyers (Reil and Wilson). His father worked for the Council of Artois (Reil and Wilson), so Robespierre was familiar with politics and government at a young age. Robespierre also had a brother, Augustin, and two sister. At an early age he distinguished himself as a student showing great potential. While in school he studied the writings of the Enlightenment which would greatly influence him for years to come. In 1781 (Reil and Wilson), he attained a degree in law and soon after he represented the Third Estate which was the French bourgeoisie and the working class of France before the French Revolution had occurred. He was now on his way to being head of France but he still had some obstacles set before him.
In 1789
The initial impulse of the French revolution was destructive. For those who lived through all, or even part, of these vast upheavals, the shock was overwhelming. Maximilien Robespierre was a proud disciple of the enlightenment and declared that no political writer had foreseen this revolution. Robespierre (1758-1794) was one of the leaders of the Committee of Public Safety, the effective governing body of France during the most radical phase of the revolution. The leaders of this revolution attempted, perhaps more than any other revolutionary leaders before or since, to totally transform human society in every way. (Supreme Being) Although Robespierre began with patriotic intent he still was the face of the Reign of Terror and was viewed as being a radical person.
Leadership, as you should know is a very important role in society. Without it all of society and everyone in it would probably crumble. No more inspirations, abolitionists, presidents, or really anything. There can be good leaders, malicious leaders, greedy leaders, and even inspiring leaders. But the question is; what makes a good leader and who is an excellent role model on this subject?
The careers of Robespierre and Napoleon were very similar. They both accomplished many big things and both crashed in a terrible way. Robespierre stood behind the idea of a great republic instead of a monarchy and followed the ideology no matter what. His purity allowed him to make decisions that got him to one of the highest positions in the National Assembly. He even managed to get to become the one that was making the decisions. He was a member of the Jacobin’s club which was strongly republican. However, after Robespierre started getting too violent and also, little bit after he ordered the death of, the people loved, D’Anton, the common people started to not like him. The common people saw him as another dictator how was trying to get to the place of Louis
Great leaders generally have to lead more than one person. They have a group or team that needs to collaborate and cooperate in order to get the work done, and this means that the leader needs to be adept at
What defines a good leader? How they treat people? Or if they have good visions for the future? Leadership does not necessarily gain its definition as having good intentions but more as getting the job and going it efficiently. In Gorge Orwell’s Animal Farm, the pigs lead the rebellion against Farmer Jones but eventually Napoleon takes charge and leads them all. He directed the other animals on the farm and much got accomplished from the time he took charge to the end of the book. Napoleon was not a nice leader, but he was very efficient. Even though Napoleon did not have any moral qualities and broke all the rules of originally made for Animal Farm, he prospered as did the rest of the farm. Napoleon was an effective leader on Animal Farm because
Why do we hear so much about the bad leaders, but so little about the good ones? That’s because none of our leaders are perfect, but what makes a good leader? A good leader is someone who is honest, decisive under pressure, and can give confidence in times of distress. Many leaders in our world, or in fictional worlds, show that these qualities prove most important.
One of the most influential figures of the Revolution of 1789 and one of the principal exponents of the Reign of Terror, Maximilien-Marie-Isadore de Robespierre was born in Arras to a bourgeois family and was educated in Paris at the Lycée Louis le Grand, where Camille Desmoulins was his classmate. Through his studies, he became an enthusiastic devotee of the social theories of the philosophes of the 18th century, especially those of Jean-Jacques-Rousseau, whom he visited at Ermenonville and whose theory of the general will, as stated in the Contrat social, became Robespierre's guiding principle. An attorney, Robespierre was elected in 1789 as a deputy for the Third Estate to the Estates General, and subsequently to the National Constituent Assembly, where his oratory brought him to the attention of his
An effective leader is one who inspires many to not only accept change but to cause change themselves, furthermore, though leaders can be effective it doesn’t always mean they are responsible with their power.
A good leader is someone with certain characteristics that make them good at leading. For example, “If you were a chief you had to think, you had to be wise. And then the occasion slipped by so you had to grab at a
Good Leaders play an important role in our society, and it is a quality than needs to be developed thorough an entire life. There are many different leadership styles, as well as there are many good leader examples. A successful leader knows exactly how to effectively manage the group , in order to work towards the realization of a common goal.
There have always been leaders who are effective and get the job done, but that does not necessarily mean that they were “good” leaders. To be a good leader means that not only does one have to be effective but also be able to go above and beyond just simply reaching the goal in mind. A good leader sets to make an impact in many different people’s lives. A good example of the difference between an effective leader and a good leader would be Ron and Deborah Hall in The Same Kind of Different as Me.
What is it exactly that makes a good leader? Is it something as simple as respecting others? A good leader not only treats people with respect, but they are influential, and people actually want to follow them or have them as their leader. Bobbie Jo Metcalf Halbert is the first person that comes to mind when I think of a leader. She does anything she can to help somebody else, she influences people to be better, and she is a very responsible person.
An effective leader must be able to uphold their values against adversity, adapt and overcome, and act in the best interest of their Soldiers. The excerpt “I know my Soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own” from the NCO Creed really speaks to what a leader is. Authenticity is key – showing subordinates and peers that you are not without fault and that just because you are in a leadership position does not mean you cannot learn from others. Leaders with this mentality increase trust and morale in their respective units; thus increasing work productivity and giving their subordinates a greater sense of job satisfaction.
The literal definition of a leader is “the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country” but to others, it can mean so much more than that, they don't just lead a country, they protect their people and do everything in their power to make things better for them. Examples of leaders are King Arthur, Martin Luther King Jr., Pope Francis, Nelson Mandela and etc. Max Weber discusses three things that a leader should have and those things are: Rational grounds, Traditional grounds, and Charismatic grounds. There are many people who exhibit all of these things that make them a great leader, but a good example of a leader who possesses all of these things is Gilgamesh, the King of
I believe that to be a good leader doesn’t necessarily define as someone who sets a goal and directs people to achieve it, but as someone who may have to adapt to change based off their surroundings and situations. A leader should be someone who is able to guide with not only direction but also logic, understanding, and an open mind. Oskar Schindler proved with continued leadership that even the most dismal situations may be able to change your values and based off those values change your actions and the direction in which you choose to lead and how you influence.
