Current events have a great effect on TV since TV proves to be the best media to change or bring to light questions about the public perception of an issue. In this paper I discovered that there are many issues that are not black and white and are simply neither bad nor good and most importantly I proved that there truly no right or wrong answer.
In regards to the portrayal of issue and its effect on society I researched the response to every episode I mentioned. I found that when discussing important issues show get a large amount of attention and good press if they consistently portray an accurate well written episode surrounding an important issue. Thus the greatest effect these episodes have is that they spark a discussion and shake up people's original perception of the issue.

Australian TV shows have changed rapidly over the years. The decades that will be discussed in this presentation include the 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s and the 2000’s. Australian TV has influenced many changes in our society; some of these included fashion trends, hobbies, job courses, the food we eat, our opinions on things and, the way that we view ourselves and others. Some social issues have arisen over the years include the negative effects on our youth due to television watching.
Greater emotional and intellectual responses surface as foreign issues become "closer to home" from an instant access to news. As the public receives such unbiased information, it can make more informed decisions, and has a better chance to affect change. (At this time, television and film are the most powerful catalysts for social change.) Thus it can be argued that film and television productions help to create positive social changes, promote multiculturalism and diversity, and create a common cultural identity among viewers.
Everything comes with negatives. “But it is much later in the game now, and ignorance of the score is inexcusable. To be unaware that a technology comes equipped with a program for social change, to maintain that technology is neutral, to make the assumption that technology is always a friend to culture is, at this late hour, stupidity plain and simple"(Chapter 11 Page 5). It is extremely important to acknowledge and understand that technology can drastically change a society. For the purpose of this essay the technology is television and the change is our culture valuing entertainment over substance, which is turning us into a nation who sits back and lets people run the country the way they
What can be the effect of television on people’s lives? People living in these days are addicted to watching TV. However, it is true that watching too much television makes people lose touch with the reality of their lives; they start to see the TV “world” as the real world instead of the world they are living in. This situation divides their loyalties, and all of this is controlled by the people who control the media. Many examples exist in the world that we live and in the world of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. For example, the way the media lies people proves that people are not in the “real” world when they are watching TV and being taught to what had been told to them. Or, people are hooked on television so much that they neglect and
What role does television play in society? For decades we have seen many parts of our world rapidly going through changes in technology. Today’s society has been transformed by means of communication and the available information through mass media. Most Americans rely on television for news, sports, and entertainment. Television is just one of the many examples of how technology has changed our lives. Since the invention of the television in the early 1900’s, it has played a very important role in our lives. Having a television set in the home has become very essential in today’s society. We depend on it to entertain us with its sitcoms and to inform us about current world issues. The
The aim of this assignment is to compare and contrast T.V. series vs Movies. The data was collected from the internet. T.V. series are becoming popular at a fast pace. During the course of history, African Americans have played a major role in the enhancement of film and television production. African Americans have enhanced not only the technology of television and film but also enhanced the story line of American Television. As contributors, African Americans have made the kind of changes that affected television and the outside world. These shows were made to relate to the average African American family. However, over the past few years, the so called demographic of “relatable’’ television has been questioned on it’s positive or negative affect society. A controversial question that has been discussed is, “Is social media, television, and film creating positive and relatable messages? Or is it
Media and technology have such a great impact on society and how we perceive social systems and all the factors tied to them. Television shows have always been prevalent in touching upon topics in society pertaining to an array of things such as color, race, creed, interest group, sexuallity, political/religious affiliation, and many more. As time passes, television shows alter the topics in which they touch upon, as society grows and chances. As society becomes more tolerant and accepting of individuality and differences in beliefs, the television programs that we watch change with them. Even through the development, there are still many prejudices and inconsistencies in our society that cause conflict.
Many people use television shows and movies as a form of entertainment that can be informative and persuasive. Television shows came out in the early 20th century and have recently shown a lot of diversity than in the past. Movies have been out for a while as well and watching movies is used as a hangout for the most part. Due to its great popularity, television has been the most common distraction next to cellphones. Along with it popularities, viewers also enjoy learning from television shows and movies, whether they are educated or not. Although television displays somewhat of diversity, they still adhere to stereotypes with a dumb white girl, Hispanic housekeeper, and angry black women.
Can T.V. shows be the reflection of our society or influence the behavior of the members of our community? Since 1936 when television broadcasting begin, it priority was to inform and to entertain our society; subsequently, a massive amount of rules and regulations were created to control the material presented in TV, which principal goal was to safeguard the moral and ethical standards of it time. Nevertheless, from its beginning to the present home entertainment television standards contents have change; likewise, the moral an ethics values of our society have change and continuing changing from generation to generation. TV shows from the 50’s, 80’s, and the present exposed many changes in the way human role are exposed, the language
The evolution of television over the past century has grown from being black to white, low quality to high quality, and much more. The outside aspects of what is being displayed on television are noticeable, but how much has the content on the screens really changed? People of today’s society still argue that the writers of these television shows are still playing into the general stereotypes of certain groups. There is also the argument that the eurocentric look of the characters is still having the most representation on screen. The so-called “eurocentric” look of the characters gives an overall bias on how society is supposed to look like. In this heavily eurocentric society on television, there is no room for representation or even respect
the other was the imbalances created in the televison between black and white community. it teaches young black to accept minority status as noticebely inevietable and even deserved. television also overrepresent and glamourize the elite occupation that sets up unrealistic expectations and largely neglects portraying the occupation such as farmers, factory workers and small businessman. On television 55% of characters are involved in the violent conforontation once a week in reality figure is less than 1 % creating a fear of crime. the way the race and the racial minority groups are represented in television they contribute to the overall racial climate. The historical results have been distinct and different groups have encountered unique forms of racial opression. Native american faced genocide , blacks were subjected to slavery, mexicans were invaded and asians faced exclusions. Films and televsions have been notorious in dissementing images of racial minorities which establish for audiences what these groups look like, how they behave and in essence who they are. Another important perhaps central dimensions of racial minority streotype is sex gender differentiation. women of color were sometimes treated as erotic sex objects. such a comment revelas an interesting aspects about myths and reality in american culture. the imporatance of race
Another thing that will be analyzed later in the paper is the difference between reality and film. In this sense the media is used to manipulate the things that people believe are true. This can be used for the greater good, but it can also be used to excite violence and
According to Teddy Zee, “Television is no longer black and white.” Since 1939, when the first African Americans appeared on video, more and more diversities have been included in television as a whole. However, regardless of how many diversities have been added, American television does not yet include a majority of its diversities. Although opposers may disagree that people of differing races are featured in television, of all the diversities that are included on television, some diversities have been rejected.
Television has changed the way that society views things and it was the precursor to the internet and allowed people to see things from all over the world, every night the nightly news would bring all these things to everyone’s living rooms. It also effected how Americans became consumers through commercials. It has served as an information resource, an escape, and an educational tool as well, and it is even said to have won an election for JFK. Television is a very powerful part of communications and a very important technology in changing society and history. Before the Kennedy presidency, television was far behind print journalism in terms of sources audiences relied upon for news. But soon, people relied on TV news for the day 's headlines as well as information on American troops in Vietnam, particularly the numbers of those killed or wounded. When something major happened on TV, it affected the whole country at
