The story of the Mayflower ship is one that is known all throughout the nation, and is a significant part of history. The book Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrook explores the first fifty five years in the new world, and deeply shows what the community was like at the time, who the heros were, and what life was like during that period of time. As Philbrook says in the book, "When fear and violence group a society, ther is lamost an overpowering tmeptaion to demonize the enemy. Given the unprccedented level of suffering and death during the King Phillios war, the temptaions were especially great, and it isnot surprisingthat both Indians and English began to view their former neighbors as subhuman and evil. What is surprising is that even in the midst of one of the deadliest wars in American history, there were englishmen who believed the Indians were not inherently malevolent and there were Indians who believed the same about the English. They were the ones whose rambunctiousand intrinsically rebellious faith in bumanity finally broufht the war to an end, and they are the heroes of our story."
