Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota is considered as one of the top 100 hospitals in the United States (DeVry, 2010). In fact, it ranks number two out of the top 100 hospitals as of 2010. It has a total of 15 specialties, and according to the latest U.S. News & World Report, Mayo Clinic remains to be the number one provider when it comes to endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurosurgery, pulmonology, and urology. They rank number two when it comes to cardiology, ears, nose, and throat, and orthopedics. They also ranks third on oncology nationwide (mayoclinic, 2015).
Mayo Clinic in Rochester is ranked nationally in 15 adult and 10 pediatric specialties. It has a 1,132- bed capacity and it is a general medical and surgical type of hospital. It is also an accredited facility by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) (usnews, 2015). It is a private, non-profit medical practice and medical research facility that employs roughly 3,800 physicians and scientists, and about 50,900 allied health staff. It is a tertiary hospital founded back in 1889 by the Mayo family (mayoclinic, 2015).
This hospital is ranked number two over all based on objective numeric, including survival rates, safety outcomes, patient volume, staffing, and technologies (postbulletin, 2015). Other factors that made Mayo Clinic rank high are reputation among specialists, patient safety, nursing, and clinically proven technology (startribune, 2014).
