Maze Runner Universal Themes

After reading the novel The Drawer Boy by Michael Healey the universal theme that I believe is portrayed is lies, and truths. These themes are developed by confusion regarding the truth, confronting the truth, and the consequences that lying can have. The books theme is something that readers can relate towards in their own everyday lives, making it a universal theme.

Another example of theme is in the end of the book. This is when Micheal came back to save all of his friends. ‘ “Hatch is about to hurt our friends, and I need to stop him” ’

Theme is an essential part in any story and can help contribute to a better understanding of what the person is reading. Many books consist of more than one theme. Theme tends to capture the central idea of what the story is about. Usually a theme or a theme statement is condensed into a word or sentence. "The Inheritor”," The Possibility of Evil", and "Harrison Bergeron" all have a central idea or theme within them.

Theme. A lesson in a novel or story that is not directly stated in the book. Between the excerpts Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt and The Street by Ann Petry is a common theme. The theme that desperate times call for desperate measures.

A theme is the author’s underlying message that is expressed in more one word. Some themes can be very similar to each other, an example of this is the two documents I will comparing in this analysis essay; The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and On the sidewalk Bleeding by Evan Hunter. These two stories share similar themes, Don’t judge someone by what they look like, get to know them before you determine their fate. However the authors portray this theme in a different way. One story depicts a young boy who goes through troublesome events in his life before he realizes the moral of his life.

There's plenty of amazing stories in this world, but usually don’t think about the themes. they just like the words they see an the journey you go on while reading. Themes are things that they author tries to convey in the text; like things like death,happiness and life etc.

This means that no matter what age, gender, or status a person is, anyone can relate to the theme being discussed. For this reason they are called universal themes. There is themes which is the central idea of a story and then there is universal themes. A universal theme is an idea primarily about an aspect of human life that umbrellas several other stories. Universal themes can be identified through literary devices such as symbolism, metaphors, foreshadowing, and . The stories that will be focused on to recognize universal themes are “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury and “The Interlopers” by Saki. “A Sound of Thunder” is a science fiction short story where a man with the name of Eckels hires a time travel company so he can go back and kill dinosaurs. “The Interlopers” is a suspenseful short story that mainly centers on the plot in which two men who call themselves Georg and Ulrich are destined to kill each other since their past generations hated each other. Both stories main themes are completely different however, they both show multiple universal themes. The universal themes in “The Interlopers” and “A Sound of Thunder” represented by literary devices are all events and actions are important and everyone has limits.

Thomas enters the Glade the same way a baby is welcomed into the world. They come out with no memories of the womb and they do not know anything, not even their name. Therefore, they are confused, like Thomas and just want to cry. Slowly, however, they are taught things until they can function on their own. This helps show that one of the symbols in The Maze Runner is the maze itself, as it symbolizes life and how complex it is. As life does not follow one rule but instead has many obstacles and Unforeseen events which is like the twists and turns in the maze. The theme of a story is whatever general idea or insight the entire story reveals (Kennedy and Goia). In “The Story of an Hour”, by Kate Chopin, the theme is repression and freedom. In “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker, the theme of the story is being proud of your heritage or your background. In “The Storm”, by Kate Chopin, the theme is finding happiness or comfort in other things.

A theme is the meaning behind a story, occasionally defined as the moral of the story. Themes can differ from one end of the world to the other, as it does in many books. The Droughtlanders by Carrie Mac is a futuristic version of the world which has been divided into two parts. The rich and the poor, the healthy and the sick, otherwise known as Keyland and Droughtland. Keyland is where all the rich people with extravagant lands and lives live. Droughtland is a disease-ridden land where all poor people are being forced to live. Society treats Droughtland poorly and they decide to take action. Thus starting the revolution. Carrie Mac portrays many themes in different ways throughout the book. However the major theme the book revolves around is that; No matter how rich or poor a person is, or what gender, race, or sexuality they are, in the end, they are all the same and deserve to be treated equally. In addition, the book shows that when everyone is treated equally there is so much more that everyone can accomplish. The theme is being portrayed through the narrative point of view, setting and atmosphere, and character development.

I found a theme that carried throughout the whole book, Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. This is the story about Katniss Everdeen and how she got drafted to fight twenty-three others in an arena. She must go through many struggles to end up winning, along with her new lover, Peeta. One simple theme, perseverance, runs throughout the whole book. The complex lesson the story suggests is that perseverance, emotional or physical, not only helps one, but helps others and causes them to persevere as well.

In every literary work, there are themes. A theme is a broad idea, moral or message of a book or story. One individual may construe the themes of a book or story differently than another, but that is the pure beauty of themes. One great literary work is The Crucible, a play written by Arthur Miller. The Maze Runner by James Dashner is 374 pages and is a science fiction novel. The story takes place in a strange place surrounded by massive thick ivy covered walls. The outside of these walls is a detrimental maze. The people in between the walls are called Gladers. They have been memory wiped and sent to a mysterious place called the Glade. The main characters that take place at the Glade are Thomas, Theresa, Gally, Alby, Minho, Chuck, and Newt. When arriving at the Glade everyone quickly shares one common goal. Their goal is to figure out the maze and get out of there. The conflict in the story is Thomas and Theresa have all the tools to free them, but the other Gladers are accusing them of all the change brought

Theme is a central idea or message in a work of literature. Theme connects with all events of a story, however, it is not the moral of the story like many may think. Theme is interpreted by the reader. In other words, the theme is just almost every aspect of a story. For example, theme needs characters, protagonist, antagonist, conflict, and speaker to analyze what theme is in a story. The equation for theme is character + conflict and resolution = theme.
