All stories use universal themes to tell the story. Universal themes are common themes seen in many books, many cultures, and places. An example of a story that uses universal themes to tell the story is The Maze Runner, written by James Dashner. The story shows the use of universal themes in a dystopian society. A common way the story is told is with the use of flashbacks. The flashbacks contain memories of Thomas life before the maze. As the story goes on each flashback holds more information and details of his past life. In one of the flashbacks he see himself working with the people who placed them there (WCKD) he wakes up and says “Guys, I'm one of them. The people who put us here, I worked with them. I-I watched you guys for years.
